Yeah, SCM Consulting is an interesting field. Global e-Procure(GeP) is a big name that recruits from top Indian B-Schools.
Not sure about the other SCM consults you mentioned.. Could you throw more light on those...

Ya, Have known some people working there - both are MNCs. Miebach is in Blore I believe while Beroe s in chennai . Know abt Beroe - getting into it is not tough and since its new in India, many ppl dont know abt it but they pay decently - but heard work is very tight there . Miebach hires from IIMs and pay package an brand is big. Dunno any1 working from there though. If any1 has exp in Supply chain Consulting - pls throw light on wat kinda work they do ?? Involves tools like SAP/Database Mgmt etc ... or something like tat i guess ... Puys pls throw some light if u have any more insights abt SCM.

And I would like to know about supply chain consulting - is it an emerging field ?? am seeing a lot of ppl moving there - prominent comps i heard - miebach, beroe etc ... Hw are the career options in miebach consulting - heard it takes ppl from IIMs mainly - but any idea wat kinda roles they offer and wat skillsets they require ?

And one more thing - did u see the skill sets tat I have mentioned - abt no specialisation in any tool an involved mainly in primary & secondary research /excel/powerpoint/analysis/forecast/presentation - and the nature of work im doin - in ur opinion , anythin i shud learn / equip tat mite help me in reachin higher like a value-add skill set ??

If Im not doin MBA soon, I wish to switch over to some reputed comps like such to leverage my position as u guys suggested - Any idea abt major comps I can target in bangalore ??

Hi Shan,

Your work profile seems to be really very interesting. If you are really enjoying the work, why not stick to it for a couple of years more, grasp all that you can and then take up an MBA to leverage this experience in a larger brand - one of the top MC firms?

As far as retaking CAT goes - you can take it as many times as you want. However, with every passing year, you must evaluate whether a 2 year program with a peer group with 0-2 year work-ex still holds the same value for you? If you, it's time you start considering other options. And I say this from experience - a 3/4 time CAT taker myself.

As you said, I'm taking cat this year (3rd attempt) and next year at the max - later on maybe should consider other factors like as u said wud be difficult fr me with a peer group of 0- 2 yrs exp, when I ll be having more than 3-4 years exp and in middle senior level position tat tym . . .

Now if you don mind , can u giv me ur opinion on whether I shud go fr GRE/GMAT next year - I'm not that into doin MBA from foreign - but just in case I don get in Indian top b-schools I wish to understand abt pursuing from good Foreign univs for MBA ( parents have retired and so wish nt to be a burden fr them at their later stage rather than being helpful to them ).

Also if you are into consulting domain- can you suggest about career options for me from my present position ?? Thing is all my colleagues are with MBA / Experienced in the Metals field fr 4 years atleast - Im the youngest and inexperienced person handling consultin assignments in my team or company ( Got a gud name fr my work though but obviously stil lots of experience to be gained ) , and Im not sure if I shud develop additionally any skillsets/courses to reach higher in my career - right now Im kinda not sure coz as a consultant - unlike IT / financial, I m not learning any tool - All I do is analyse published reports, interact with senior management people in the market Im tracking - either face to face / Primary telephonic interviews, get their inputs - analyse, Work around the numbers in Excel - Forecasting/analysis and make presentations in powerpoint- present to clients and address their concerns / queries. Will my profile be acceptable (> 1 yr exp in consulting without MBA) fr companies like PwC/Accenture/Capgemini where I hav seen some of my collegues shifted ?

Sorry I'm asking silly qns abt consultin profession - actually I don have many friends doin my job at my level - so dunno what r the industry expectations and wat r the companies in India apart from a couple of biggies where I have no chance without MBA from top B schools .

I'm workin as a Research analyst in a Market research & Consulting firm in the metals & mining domain for one year and I have been doing strategy consulting assignments like strategic market potential/demand assessment , Joint venture opportunities, M & A, Detailed Feasibility Studies (or Detailed Project Report as called in India) for establishing manufacturing plants (includes Market Assessment, Plant/Process/Technology/Engineering and a bit of financial model - mainly assisted senior members of the team in this segment) , Identifying favourable market potential for the clients who are major Steel/Aluminium/Copper Metal companies in India, Middle East mainly.

I've been trying to attempt CAT and last year gt 91 %, gt 1 IIM call because of my very gud acads and some gimmicks wit normalisations tat some IIMs adopted last year crazily. But coudn convert it.

My Acads : 95% in 12th, 93% in 10th and 88% in BE.

And Im giving CAT this time but due to too much work didn do tat intense prep and im kinda doubtful if I ll clear. Now I need some wise help/advice from puys here who r experienced as to what i shud do :

I like my job very much - believe ths is wat ppl do after MBA ( pls correct me if wrong) but I definitely want to do MBA as I wish to be in bigger positions an execue much better and important of all, I want to go through the MBA experience from a leading B school like IIMs.

1) Now if I don get through Cat this year, is it Ok / fine to attempt one more year ?Im worried coz by 2013 june, i ll become 3 years experienced(2.5 years experienced in consulting + i was working in IT for 6 months b4 ths job).

2) In case i didn get thru CAT, I want to do from reputed institutes from abroad and if so Should I attempt GMAT/GRE next year or wait one more year trying fr CAT (I sincerely wish to do frm IIMs more than Foreign institutes and pls suggest hw long I can try attempting CAT).

3) Also Puys in consulting domain , would like to know of career options for me - Job is very gud and interesting but finding it too much stressful coz of some issues in the company and team, I'm planning to look fr a change - Is it fine to shift the company at this state or wait some more tym.(the salary offered here is not as per industry standards, but the experience is huge and work load is very heavy but very interesting - doesn giv me enough time to prepare for CAT though - that s another reason I wish to change job.

Regret for the long mail - highly confused. Wil be really helpful if ppl giv some suggestions. I don knw many ppl in consulting domain wit whom I can freely clarify my doubts - PG is the only place I cud think of !!!
