If you exclude those ventures/social work/internship etc. which are primarily meant to keep oneself occupied while looking for a regular job, then what % of the Said MBA 2008 graduates from India, you believe, are still looking for a satisfactory job?

Come on man... I don't have information to this granular level. The placement statistic for the 2006-07 class is available on the school website.
But its true. This has been a very tough year compared to past few years....

About 55 Indians / Indian origin
about 10% went 'back' to US for job
about 40% back to India got a job (doesn't necessarily mean 'forced' back... many wanted to go back)
about 20% got job in UK
about 10% got job around the world (mostly Singapore / asia. None in HK.)
about 10% are still looking for job (some got job and were made redundant)
I don't know whereabouts of rest 10%

Please note that this number are based on my knowledge, they aren't official numbers...
by job, I mean job, new venture, social work and all....

Does the Oxbridge label stick even in the case of MBAs from Oxford and Cambridge or is it primarily for the people who do Undergrad there?
I have heard people saying Business schools are seen as only peripheral and not seen as the core of these Universities! Is this true?

How valuable are the MBA degrees from Oxbridge in terms of brand value within UK/London, as compared to LBS or INSEAD or Wharton or Chicago? On par or better or one step lower?
As an alum of one of these schools, your views will be very much appreciated by members of PG like me.

Oxbridge label definitely is for life. Business schools aren't the core of University in a sense that traditionally these Universities pride themselves in other undergrad disciplines, Political science in Oxford and pure science in Cambridge for e.g. But MBA programmes here are very new and will gain value as the time pass.

I guess 97% of the times, degree from Ox-Cam is at par with LBS or Insead. It is the alumni network of LBS and Insead that is much stronger and helps them in recruitment. Otherwise for neutral employer, all these MBAs look the same.

Wharton and Chicago are respected here, but are a bit alien.

By 2011, assuming the things will recover, I guess there is a fair chance to switch the career from IT strategy to consulting. But it really depends on your own networking abilities. You can not depend on the school to do it for you.

In your application, according to me, Oxford values social entrepreneurship, entrepreneureship, leadership, business accumen and clarity of goals.

It is apples and oranges man...In US, obviously Yale holds more value than Oxbridge. But in UK Oxbridge is definitely preferred due to the connection to british businesses.

Are the placements of Oxbridge better than IIMA PGPX/ ISB?

Know a guy from Said 2008, he mentioned the college provides very less in terms of placement services and it is your networking which helps. He came back to India and got a job of around 18-20 lakhs in a reputed firm as thr were not many openings abroad.

If there are any alumni on the forum, pls share your experience on the placements front...

As of now, I guess the placements at IIM are a bit better than Oxbridge for the simple reason that Indian economy is still growing at least by 6% while UK economy is shrinking. The most troubled people are careers jumpers. There are very very few people in my class who made it to consulting or investment banking / private equity without prior experience in the same sector.

I am not very clear on the pros and cons of Judge/SAID vs Indian programmes like ISB, IIMA PGPX etc!

I know the Indian programmes cost about Rs 20 Lakhs and the one-year programmes like Judge/SAID cost about Rs 35 Lakhs including living expenses at the current exchange rates.
I understand that the UK programmes will have a much better brand in UK/Europe and possibly in SEA. This also might be of help in terms of better job opportunities in UK, though things are bad just now!

As far as Indian job market is concerned, I would suspect that ISB and PGPX/PGPEX and EPGP will command at least equal, if not better brand value.

I have always wondered what is the thought process behind the people's choice of Judge and SAID over ISB and other one year programmes at IIMs!
Are these seen as superior and better value for money and do people choose SAID/ Judge over ISB/PGPX etc! or is it that the people who couldn't make it to ISB or PGPX/EX try and get into Judge and SAID!

It will be nice if the applicants and people who got admits and have decided to join these programmes can give the thinking behind their choices.
I mean no offence; my intention is only to gain better understanding.

The most appealing / differentiating factor is the classmates. In IIMs you find a prototype class of Indian Engineers and CAs. Of course there are other profiles, but the diversity is limited. In Oxford and Cambridge you meet so many different people around the world, that it totally changes your perception. And you build a very strong network of smart and interesting people around the world, not to mention a very strong alumni network of these universities. This is unprecedented compared to even US B schools.

I guess your application (written) if first and formost important stage. Interviews at Oxford are fairly simple.

The market is pretty bad here in UK for traditional MBA jobs like consulting and investment banking... I was wondering if anyone has any smart ideas about non traditional jobs that MBAs could consider in current situation....

This is very interesting. I think most of the schools had now pretty much adopted Harvard's case study method of teaching. There are many professors who travel from school to school teaching their subject. So the knowledge sharing and generalisation is speeding up.

The major difference between many EU schools like Oxford and US schools, as noted by one prof teaching in both Harvard and Oxford, is the assessment system. Many schools in US assess candidate based on class participation, presentation etc. While in Oxford it is traditional exam system. I also didn't see much emphasis on presentation here in Oxford unlike many Indian B Schools.

Another noticeable thing for me was the absence of Cambridge in the document, especially now that it is marked as among top 10 B-Schools.
