Animals have these advantages over man: they never hear the clock strike, they die without any idea of death, they have no theologians to instruct them, their last moments are not disturbed by unwelcome and unpleasant ceremonies, their funerals cost them nothing, and no one starts lawsuits over their wills.- Voltaire (1694 - 1778)

In this quotation the author is referring to:

    OPTIONS

1)the fact that he would rather be born as an animal than a human

2)animals not having any attachments to the material world

3)a simple comparision between two species

4)people suffering because they know they will eventually die

There’s a beast within every man that stirs when you put a sword in his hand.

    • pratskool @siddharthan5335 i want to make a point, may be i am wrong.. the author starts with the advantage of animlas over man, now not attachment to the material world can be or cannot be advantage , depends on person to person, but lets examine option 4, we clearly see that people are at disadvantage of suffering , or in other words animals have an advantage...
also same is implied when its given in the para that "disturbed by unwelcome and..."
so why cant 4 be an answer??

    • siddharthan5335 the subject of the passage is about the advantage of animals over humans. not humans. you should understand that the author has every time, in his comparison tells something better about animals. Also, one more thing. had the author connected the idea of knowledge of death to unwelcome events, then statement 4 will get its relevance. @pratskool . I think 1st point in this comment will help you

    • pratskool @siddharthan5335 yeah, but the whole passage speaks about death and not attachments so i think the author is referring to something related to death only... and 2ndly man suffering while death if u compare toh animals not suffering (because they are not concerned) justifies the advantage of animals over man.... @Logrhythm whats the OA?

    • StructuredKevin 'A' -> can be eliminated as nowhere he has said that he would like to live the life of an animal, just building this on what is mentioned would be too far-fetched
'B' -> eliminated as 1) not paying atention to clock doesnt mean not being materialistic, 2) unpleasant guests not coming doesnt mean not bein materialistic. 'B' is a very general cut
'C' -> i dont know why is it a 'Simple' comparison
'D' -> no too much extreme

can someone agree to my explanation or post a better one
