CAT'12: 83 percentile

I have converted NIRMA and awaiting KJSomaiya. I want to pursue MBA in marketing+information management and want to be a management consultant.Considering my experience and CAT percentile please suggest

i) if I should join NIRMA or KJSom(if converted), OR

ii) if I should retake CAT 2013 in order to try and get better score.In this case i am worried if waiting for one more year would have any effect on placements or future career

iii)Also, if in my consulting career being from a college like NIRMA would be good in terms of brand value, career growth as compared to some of the colleges which are higher in rankings (other than IIMs).

Please give your valuable suggestions as I am unable to decide.

interceptor16 Hi @rupa10 , while I don't have much info about profiles being offered at NIRMA but I can definitely tell you about KJ. Assuming that you have got call from PGDM or IB from KJS (both being the best courses on campus), with your background, you can get shot from Infosys, CapG and Deloitte which recruit from KJS. However the roles are not of management or strategy consulting (if that is what you are aiming for). The roles are mostly associate consultant (based on SAP line of work) and IT consulting roles.
I would definitely suggest you to give another shot in CAT 2013 and come up with better and decent calls if Strategy Consulting (Mck, BCG, Booze) is what you are looking for. These companies visit only IIMs and XLRI and 1-2 more colleges.

Also, once you join a company, the onus is totally on you to perform. Your college background doesnt play a very major role. How you perform is what matters.

roshangjha i) KJS > Nirma > KJS (IB). However, placements at both the institutes have been bad (same as most of the institutes, even some IIM's.)
So, having a college with a smaller batch size may help. Consider everything.

ii) Totally upto you. It will not put any adverse effect on your placements. All you need to do is give any convincing reason IF anyone asks you about it. If you get to a better college, it will help instead

iii) Let us not fool ourselves. An IIM brand is infinitely better than a Nirma or KJS brand. It will help immensely in your growth provided you work well enough. If you don't, none of the brands will help.

So, if you can afford it, aim for the IIM's. If you want to make a choice now, I have given my preference above.
