dear all aspirants..
its really nice that one of the students brought true picture in public domain..
nw comes the comparison part..
aspiratns should understand first that its a program to boost manufacturing sector.. therefore it has aegis of GOI in collaboration with JICA, NMCC, DoPT, etc...
and this program is based on MIT LGO program which is again globally acclaimed..
I hv got through some other good one year programs in India and even HEC France and choosing VLM....
I m not here to just looking for a extraordinary high package or something close..
m here to give value addition to my present work-ex (m a procurement consultant into oil&gas; sector).. and to do something more worthy post MBA from IIM Calcutta..!!

The written paper comprises of two parts as I said , the quant and verbal part would be almost similar to CAT /JMET owing to the partnering institutes , and don't worry much about time(which is more than sufficient) as the focus is more on accuracy.
The engineering section has general questions regarding Chemical , Electrical , Electronics , Mechanical , Mining / Metallurgy and Petroleum/Refinery field ; a glance though GATE PREP MATERIAL's first few pages of relevant fields and Engineering Review - India's Leading Industrial b2b Magazine , would be more than sufficient.
Do remember that the written test is going to be eliminating , so post interview they'll shortlist no more than 60-70 candidates and would have different panel for interview (having reps from IIMC , IITK , IITM) ; so try not to globe as they generally have more idea about any topic they ask.
Just be thorough with your CV / past experience , and getting through would be a cake walk for you.

Good Initiative, keep networking with fellow aspirants to get insights about the program.
The institutes dispatch call letter as soon as the shortlist is announced , but sometimes when the post fails to deliver the document it returns back to institute so don't worry about it.
People who are not aware , this is monsoon time in chennai , so keep umbrella and spare pair of clothes / shoes.
They'd provide some interim accommodation so reaching a day prior would be better (mention your arrival date in your acknowledgement email).
The process must end by dinner time (avoiding any contingencies) , so people can plan their return accordingly.
All the best fellas , you guys are almost at the doorstep to make it to this point.

Bank loan is the only structured process here , you'd not have difficulty in getting 110% of the amount approved , but I'd suggest to keep the amount less than 10 lacs , and if possible show the guarantee of a person(your parents or spouse , obviously) who has yearly salary of less than 5 lakh rupees , there's an additional benefit on interest if so.

my question is regarding the bank loan.
1. How much amount bank are considering for the loan approval. are they consider fees of 9 laks only or
boarding (7000 pm), international (2 laks) and domestic (60K ) for tour to be considerd.
2. What percent of this amount they are approving? (may be vary from bank to bank but you can give
one of the specific example).
3. what is the criteria to give the education loan. I mean currently I have home loan and personal loan.
whether it will impact on the eligibility for loan?

Jeez , this surely is a foot in mouth situation ... as here we are trying hard to make the online thing work ... but as all sane ppl would know how a government organization (here college) works in diwali period...I could see that people have started filling up the old pdf form , which isn't entirely a bad idea as the online form would not be different from the pdf one.
But till date hopes to get applications online is positive.

My 2 cents to the proactive guys here :
1. Get a passport size photo scanned by that time
2. Get the recommendation form from your superior (format attached here)
3. Get a DD of Rs 2000 /- made in favor of 'Indian Institute of Technology Madras'
4. Brush up a little basics about everything in engineering...trust me when i say basics it means completely rudimentary things...to make effort little more focused try checking in the areas of 'Electrical' , 'Electronics' , 'Automobile' , 'Power' , 'Mining' and 'Chemical' engineering .

As murphy's law goes "if anything can go wrong it will" ...we anticipated this and it happened , apologies for that , we shall try to fix this ASAP

and about the payment mode , quite regrettably online option is not there , so you have to reckon on good old DD mode..

The online application system is up , I request aspirants to try it at earliest possible; as this is the first time an online method is opted, so we do expect some glitches and if identified in time we can plug 'em to prevent any hassle to you guys.

Ohh from chhattisgarh and bengali , and also a GMP aspirant...quite a coincidence :)

Hi guys done with my XLRI GMP interview at Chennai..

Uber cool Interview panel....I'll refer d int panel guys as P1, P2 and P3...

I made it JIT(Just-in-Time) for the interview at exactly 10:00 am.

P1 : Asked to show my folder for verification of certificates etc.
P2 : Started with the 1st Ques: As I belonged to Chhattisgarh, He asked why C.G. is famous for?
P1 : What was the reason for my switching from Wipro Technologies, an IT firm to BHEL,a PSU? I explained the answer comprehensively.
P1: There is a misconception in the faculties regarding the work-culture of PSU's, whats your perception? How do you find the difference between IT work culture and PSU work culture? I answered the question quoting all the pros and cons of both the places.

P1: We also find that in IT industry people are not exposed to all areas of business whereas in other Core areas its not the same. What's your take on that? I explained by emphasizing on how in PSU's we are exposed to all areas like HR, Finance, Marketing etc. Morever, in PSU's we also learn the people skills.

P2: Why do you want to pursue GMP in XLRI? I emphasized about the diversity of people who join GMP and their rich work-experience and how the programme will result in immense value-addition to my profile.

P1: How do you see BHEL in coming 10 years? Would it be able to survive competition from Private players? I emphasized on BHEL's core competency as the rich technical expertise in power plant equipment designing, erectioning and commisioning?

Now, P3 (Apparently, a cool guy with long hairs and probably the youngest of the lot) barged in with his query...

P3: Where does this technical expertise of BHEL gets captured? I explained about our Corporate R&D;, then our Corporate patents / IPRs etc.

P3 again: Name the 7 sisters of India...i named all the 7 North-East Indian States...He seemed quite satisfied with the answer..

P2: Which state is power capital of India? I spontaneously came up with the answer "Chhattisgarh"....He complimented it by saying that CG is power surplus...

P2 again: Do you have any roots in Bengal (by my surname "Banerjee")? I promptly replied yes, some relatives...my grandfather shifted his base from Bengal long back in 1950's to CG...he seemed satisfied..

P2 : That is all. You can sign on the attendance sheet and leave.

I thanked all of them and left. The interview lasted for 15 minutes.

I am completely satisfied with my interview, panel was really good and I enjoyed the experience.

Keeping my fingers crossed....
