It would be very helpful if you evaluate my profile and give some advice for MBA.

My profile- Work-ex (Wipro Tech) -30 months/ Graduation B.E. - 72%

This year I am preparing for CAT and other Indian b-school programs although I want to write GMAT,
I I need to keep option for abroad too.

I am confused when should I write GMAT as application deadline for most of the public universities is OCT-R1 and Jan-R2.

If I focus on CAT this year and give GMAT next year I need to apply with 4 years of work-ex.

I want to attend to switch career path from IT to General management.

Please suggest me some US State universities, and when should I write GMAT ?

What potential difference do you see if I join next MBA batch with 3.5 YOE or 4.5 YOE ?

I am currently in 1st yr at IIML and i am planning to take ops as specialization. i therefore want to appear for the CSCP certificate exam from APICS. in their website they mentioned the price of their reading material at arnd INR 55000. it is too damn expensive. Can anyone with prior experience please tell me whether buying the reading material is really necessary or just reading from the text books will be fine. It is highly appeciated If in case anyone can suggest a way to procure the material in a less expensive way.

I have a 4.5 years experience in the power sector as a maintenance manager..My job typically revolves around the technical aspects of machinery and some managerial aspects as well..However my goal is to get into energy consultancy working with the likes of MBB or Big four..My question to you is how do I reflect my interest for the consultancy domain in my applications to the adcom members to draw their attention??Could you suggest some ways or means like some certifications or competitions or distance learning courses/projects pertaining to consulting domain which I could mention in my SOP?? P.S.- I have tried for change in job as well, but in vein owing to weak economic scenario as of now!!!Thanks a lot in advance and any further question, I am there to reply!!

Some things you can do to improve and showcase your focus on consulting in this domain are:

1) Highlight examples where you worked along with consultants in your company

2) Certifications in operations domain such as Six-sigma etc. are valued by consulting firms and adcoms, as they showcase your interest in a tangible way

3) Try to put across your work and clearly connect it with industry-wide trends

Apart from the above, consulting firms like people who are big-picture problem solvers and industry experts. Hence your B-school essays which relate to career path must highlight that you have deep insights into the value chain of power sector, and any path that you are choosing would make a difference in the bigger context. While you may not appear as one who understands all problems in the sector and their solutions but a seasoned power sector professional who has the pulse of industry, it’s vendors, it’s clients and their mutual strategic leverage over each other. This will make much more convincing pitch to B-school adcom about your interest of getting into consulting.

@vidhisn Hi Vidhi.. to answer to what you had asked, I have started my preparations for GMAT some 10-15 days back and planning to appear by max june end..for CAT preparation I had completed the SC theory from Aristotle Grail, and now went through the MGMAT and have completed it (just a read and underline approach) except the Idioms sections, which I found damn boring..Would have to go through the rules and revise them once again...Once I am done with that I have planned to attempt all questions from OG and Grail..would this be enough or any other suggestions??

For CR, I have already attempted all questions from OG during CAT/XAT preps and had an accuracy of almost 85-90%, but still I have planned to go though the bible and then reattempt the questions with pre set time period like 1.5 mins per question and 15 questions at a stretch..any other resources to practice CR questions from??

last but not the least RC which really gave me a harrowing experience during CAT prep, what suggestions would you give??I have planned to maintain my reading habits by going through economist everyday, coupled with RC passages from OG'13 online..would this suffice or should I attempt the RC passages from Aristotle RC 99?? (Would be so happy, if you don't suggest me to go through them, the high difficulty are deadly there...)

Any smart prep plans for SC/CR? Resources at my disposal- Aristotle SC guide, MGMAT SC guide,Powerscore CR bible and OG'12...
