last time around they were declared almost a month after the examination ( probably to take into account a lot of wrong questions )... this time results could be out by first week of feb...

Dear sir/madam
I'm an SPJain aspirant for the class of 2011(Marketing).Unfortunately my name does not figure amongst the short listed candidates.I have 36 months of IT industry experience.Could this be a reason for my rejection ? I have a bunch of friends with similar profiles and they have been shortlisted for the interviews.The only visible difference is that my friends have a CGPA of 3.7 when compared to my CGPA of 3.3 and that they have applied for Information Management rather than for Marketing .My extra curriculars span a plethora of achievements unlike theirs(I'm not boasting here, just bringing forth the facts) - Details are available in the adjoining mail.


Do you think that applying to the Information Management instead of Marketing would have earned me a call ?


Would be grateful if you could lucidly explain the selection criteria as this is the second time my profile has been rejected by SPJain and hence my apprehensions stand justified.

Hi Varun,
Applying for Marketing Management with IT experience does not makes you ineligible. But certainly your work exp. would not have carried much weightage. Also since the evaluation is done on relative basis, you cannot predict the kind of competition you are facing.Generally more people apply for marketing and finance , so competition is greater than IM or Operations. Also you are not only competing against work exp. people but also freshers who may have better academic profile than you.

Have a few extra curriculars too - i do voluntary work for an NGO here in Hyd.
Been active while in college, was the chief editor of the college mag,organized some events, went to some competitions in the IITs etc.,

A couple of guys whom i know got calls last year and this year too ! Not sure what's the exact criteria of SP Jain. Nevertheless, i hope the people who really deserve it don't miss out !!

Moreover, i am even confused about the selection process. As in , last year 1200 profile based calls were given and people were screened in Dec itself and another list was put up in Feb ! But this time around, what is it gonna be ? Will the 2nd list contain people from the 1st list screened based on CAT/XAT/GMAT + people with Good scores in those exams or is it gonna be a totally new list based on CAT/XAT/GMAT which will be an addition to the first list ?? Can someone please clears my doubts :sad:

But nothing wrong in preparing ..so seniors, please do advise us on how we should go about - preparing for the GI round !!

the second list ( the one based on scores + profile ) will be a completely new list...

spjain dubai and singapore have their own admission process and this list has people only for spjimr mumbai... for the dubai branch visit spjain.org...

the list to be declared tommorow will obviously be based solely on profiles and not scores included , simply because the link for score updation will be made active at a later date... so logical to conclude...

Hi everyone.
So a good discussion carrying on the thread from some 90 odd pages. Hope our institute gets some good people out of you..:rockon:
By the way, I am Amit, a 1st year student of NMIMS MBA Core. Just to address a few issues:

1) So much has been written about cheating in NMAT by some people. I agree that there might be some cases where some people have cheated but trust me, it doesn't make any difference when it comes to final selection. How many of those will reach the final list? Very few. So saying sentences like studying with cheaters & a pathetic institute is really stupid. At the end of the day, you need an admission in NMIMS, NMIMS doesn't need you. And the people who think that the institute is really bad, they are most welcome & rather requested not to join it. Don't even come for the 2nd stage if you think you have wasted 1600 bucks in giving a cheating ridden clerk level exam. Without knowing the stuff don't curse the things. You don't even have an idea how much corporate exposure this institute provides, & the curriculum & faculty is totally world class apart from good placements. So better prepare for GD PI stage rather than wasting time on thinking irrelevant things. You would be a better manager then.

2) Last year around 80% of the weightage was given to NMAT score, but this year the situation will be a bit different as I guess. There might be a re-introduction of CBT, i.e.,Computer Based Test, which will be a simple aptitude test based online. There might be a presentation part also involved in the process. So the weightage to the written test may reduce upto 60%. So their is a better chance for everyone to convert. Moreover, the seats will be increasing to 360 so you can expect more calls. There is a speculation about some hike in fee also but nothing is confirmed about this as well as the post NMAT procedure by the admissions dept.

3) Any further queries are welcomed. I will try to answer as & when possible.

your first point clearly shows the arrogance associated with your college... by the looks of things the number of cheaters will be quite a number... and even if it is less why should we stand even a miniscule number of such cheaters ??mind you, yours is not the only college with all that "world class" faculty and all... just because aspirants need nmims and not the other way round does not mean that the institute keeps on taking things for granted year after year and does not care for hard earned money being spent by honest aspirants... this is a typical mentality we indians have of not caring about stuff which doesnt affect us... instead of being so arrogant try giving some recommendations to your institute on the lines of improvement of the conduction of the test...

P.S.- I am clearing the projected cutoffs by quite a margin but am damn sure not coming for the gd/pi round if selected and i personally know other such people... and this is a reflection not on us but on nmims...
