As it seems from all the above posts, Great Lakes is finding really difficult to place the candidates and to make matters worse, the Patriots who should be defending the school are not there.
My question was exactly what was echoed sometime back, Great Lakes at 6 years versus ISB at 6 years and we can find that ISB was miles ahead?
The question here is why is that, lets face the facts, unless you really are an enterpreneurship pro school, the only thing that propels a school are its placements. I am sure many students would agree that even if ever there is a choice between international faculty and top notch jobs then people would chose the latter.
So my humble request to the Patriots to divulge the true placement sceanrio or allow the students to have a tete-e-tete with the placement director. Thats the only way one can get some light into the mist.
Hey Indranil,
Your points are very valid.... but to counter those thoughts... ISB was miles ahead because it was the first of its own kind. they got the benefit of being the early bird...but wherever GL is today, no other insti moved so fast in ranking as it did... i m sure u compare to ISB... but there are more institutes who are lagging behind in this race.
secondly, if you have applied to great lakes, then u must have written the 4th essay as well which mentions the true intention of the institute... its a training for lifetime... if you are good, u will not just be placed but will continue to move up the career ladder. There is only so much an MBA branding can do for u....
thirdly, the methods, procedures and concept of Great Lakes is relatively Global in nature. In India, placement is all that makes an institute great but thats not how things are across the world (by world i dont mean U.S/U.K/Australia/Canada only). Great Lakes has intentions to be global and they are acting on it which may not appeal to most of us as parameters to be best in India is just placement. maybe thats why they dont respond to these discussions!
Finally, in my experience in HR consulting, i have known that its important to be really interested in doing things that you are doing rather posing an artificial interest in order to find a job! realizing 10 yrs later that i shd have been doing sthg else is a very tough thing to live with once u have financial commitments and other priorities. Its been repeated a lot but it is true. To me it appears as if GL wishes to and manages to eliminate the people from competition who are not sure of their career paths but are capable of cracking the competition. GL manages to recruit the capable as well as mature people who know why they are there.
I am sure GL will prolly not become No 1 institute in India in next 20 yrs but it will have a global ranking within the same time frame.
