My answers for DI-and-RC/VA Question # 8 are as follows:

First step is to frame the equations of the two graphs from the Points given.

The straight line will have the eq:
C(for carring cost per unit)= 5*x (where x is the no. of units)
The other curve is similar to rectangular hyperbola.So eq:
O(for order cost) * x =160(by looking at the starting point of the hyperbola.Moreover,u can justify by taking some more points also)

1.It can be directly answered just by visualisation of the graph.Point desired will lie to the left of intersection point to fulfill the given condition.Hence,(3) is correct.We can also find it from the eqs above.

2.P=5N+160/N -------- (i)
2P= 10N + 80/N -------(ii)
Also, 2P =10N + 320/N (Multiplying (i) by 2)
Hence,
10N + 80/N = 10N + 320/N
240/N = 0
=> N --> infinite
Hence, (4) is correct.

3.P=5N + 160/N
to make P least,i.e the sum least,we have
5N=160/N
=> N = 4 * 2^(1/2) (in thousands)
P(min)= 20* 2^(1/2) +20* 2^(1/2)=40 * 2^(1/2) = 56.56
Hence,(3) is correct.

4.For P(min),N=4000*2^(1/2) ~ 5600 units.
Hence,(2) is correct.

2) such a situation is not possible

I am taking least possible cost at intersection point, as i observe that anything below that also has more or less the same cost per unit... Graph is not clear :sarcasm::sarcasm: ...

i think u shud apply to fore as well. since all the cat-based colleges that u r applying to r in the 95+ bracket. fore will serve as a good backup in 92-95 range if things don't turn out well.
however it all depends on how much u think u can score. if u r certain 'bout being in the 98+ category then it's no use applying to fore.

will go with ur advice... coz nothin' is certain in this world...

thanks ppl for recommending FORE and GIM, but do u think i would be doing justice to my profile as 2.5 yrs experience if i join these colleges... I am not demeaning these colleges, i really think they r really good ones(i even heard that GIM doesnt inflate CTCs on its website, which is really laudable) and i would not have been thinking about joining them even for a second had i been a fresher, but now i am a little confused... can u please throw sum light on the kind of packages(minimum and average only, not max:laugh: for me) an exp person gets?

My educational background is as follows:

1) Xth - 82.8% from CBSE (DPS)
2) XIIth - 74.4% from CBSE (DPS)
3) Graduation B.Tech(IT) from UP Technical university(University %age - 71, taking flat 69.xx %)
4) Currently close to completing 2 yrs in a software company - will be completing 2.5 yrs till mid next year


My TIME mock percentiles are as follows(havent been able to clear QA even once-brushed close by but have always missed till now(practically speaking, this means i mite miss cutoffs for the big billis ))

starting from the first one i gave - 77, 69, 82, 84, 81, 86, 87, 94, 88, 93, 97, 91

also gave the AIM IIFT last week - 98


Deciding on 3 factors, i have shortlisted the following exams n B-skools to apply(costs are high:huh:, my performance:huh: and the skools i wish to choose)

Exams -
1) CAT
2) SNAP
3) IIFT
4) FMS
5) XAT
6) NMAT
7) JMET - this is actually money lostm owing to my quant scores

Instis (apart from the ones already covered in the exams given above-
1) MDI - 2 programs - Fin and HR
2) IMT GZB
3) IMI
4) XLRI
5) XIMB
6) SIMB

I have left SPJain bcos i read sumwhere on PG that they grade ppl on 4-5 things including ACADs , xtra curricular etc (grades being S-super, A, B and C) and u need atleast A in all and S in one to secure a call... so i thought i mite nt be able to accomplish that...



Friends, guide me and tell whether my selection is right/wrong... all comments, advice etc is welcome


Also tell whether i shud add/remove sum insti's to my list(pls keep in mind my work ex too)

Never knew tht thr was no sectional cut-off!!!:shocked:...otherwise would have tried to maximise my score. VA in section D was a disaster:huh:

Sectional Cutoffs are very much there (As also pointed out on TIME site, where they have given cutoffs for each section)... :argue:

Section C - 6.79
Section D - 8.0

OA - 29.28

I just filled the NMAT registration. There was a select box for your ethnicity(Gujju/Non gujju but can speak gujarati/Others)... had to fill others... :boat: is there a special reservation for Gujaratis... olready only 240 seats with 15% for management quota !





PS - for the record, i simply adore gujarat and the ppl... have lots of gujju friends too !!!

I bought the forms and filled in the details online. I was able to download the XAT form but when i clicked on the XLRI form, it generated some random script !

I have contacted the XLRI ppl they r telling they will send the form to me... havent got it still..
