I have converted IIMC where I was earlier on-hold. I called up admissions office to confirm how much refund of fees will I get and I was informed that it could mean "a lot of money" but that the lady didnt know the exact amount as it was not yet decided.

But, as per AICTE rules, a fees of only Rs.1000/- ca be cut if I withdraw my admission before the course starts. Tougher refund norms laid for institutes - School & College - Education - MSN India

I think it would not be a problem and the XLRI refund would be in line with the AICTE rules only, so don't worry. I remember a few cases from last year.

But do try to get in touch with some XLRI official regarding the same.

Try using the Orkut community to get some senior to help you about the same. I am sure someone would be glad to help you there. (I can't access Orkut from my office)

well whatever confi have been give are very good...jus one thing i would like to mention to all fellow xl ppl..buy a p8600 or higher processor...for once it has been recommended in the letter of final offer that the processor should be t8100 and ofcourse p8600 is a higher one and secondly and most imp a better processor would help u work smoothly on your comp...the same confi with a p8600 processor would cost u around 49.5 and guys another news.........

dell has a tie up with afew colleges and if ne1 has got a call from them they could buy any laptop of rs 50k or higher with a 5% discount........cheers

what they mention in the offer letter has to be taken with a pinch of salt ...
I guess any decent processor will do ...and me being a B.Tech.(IT) can tell you that apart from playing high end heavy games...processor speed doesn't matter much for regular application programs..

so don't fret too much about processor (if it is not Celeron or P4..it is alright) ...
and with ppl having vista ..i would suggest at least 2 GB of ram for smooth operation.

as long your laptop can run ms office ...and you can a game or 2 ...it is good enough....
Roxio is just a software of burning CDs ...write it the way you want ...any software should be good enough....

I have a laptop which I have been using for the last 4 years. Configuration is a bit out dated
Inspiron 9300 Pentium 4
512 Mb RAM
80 GB Hard Disk
WiFi enabled
Is pretty large (17"monitor) and heavy
etc.
Will this suffice for the course (BM)?

I am not really inclined to buy a new laptop at this moment, if I can help it.

Can a senior please advise? Any help and suggestion will be appreciated.

If you don't intend to game a lot and don't mind this heavy piece from your hostel to college(which is around 15 meters away )...
you can use this laptop of yours .....

but since it is old ...and you would become a heavy user here (it will be used for 12-13 hours a day ..for one reason or the other)... you might wanna give the bulk deal some thought ....
