This post is to guide you as to how to get your initial deposit back from ICFAI Hyderabad(applicable only to Hyderabad campus as it is UGC approved thus UGC guidelines apply to them other colleges of ICFAI are not recognized by any govt. body so you cannot get your initial deposit back). I am not sure what are the terms this year for securing admission (ie initial deposit, last date to withdraw admission)
My Story:
I was offered seat last year at ICFAI Hyderabad. To reserve my seat I had deposited 80K(if i recollect correctly). I had to inform them by 15th May if I am withdrawing my seat or not. The condition put by ICFAI was if I inform them after 15th May I would loose entire 80K ie nothing would be refunded. However as per UGC refund guidelines a candidate who withdraws his seat before opening of college (which was 30th May as per ICFAI enrollment letter)
is eligible for fee refund after deduction of Rs.1000/-. As I got my seat confirmed at a better college after 15th May I sent them mail informing about withdrawing admission. As expected ICFAI Admin refused to refund my money. At first admission counselor said the admission committee will take call whether to refund or not (which took 2 months. She knew no refund would be made as this is every year story however just to prolong things. Finally I received a mail that admission committee has decided to not make aby refund). I was well aware of the rules and regulations and took the case to UGC officials. This is what I did.
1. First called on UGC no. 23239627 (

:::Deemed University - University Grants Commission :::) ICFAI falls under CPPI. Told them my story. UGC officials guided me to send a letter to The Secretary ,University Grant Commission (U G C)
Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, New Delhi,Pin:110 002,India along with all proofs (fees receipt, offer letter, refund refusal mail etc). (

2. Waited for UGC to get back to me. Finally received a copy of letter by UGC to ICFAI to refund my money or face action. ICFAI obliged however they returned only 75K from 80K and deducted 5k instead of 1K. This time I again sent mail to ICFAI to return remaining 4K but ICFAI being ICFAI didn't pay any heed. Complaint again to UGC but this time to Hyderabad branch as they were dealing with my case. UGC again sent the letter to ICFAI to refund remaining 4K. Finally I get my money back.
P.S. Constant follow up with UGC officials is required by phone. They don't read emails. Written complaint letter is required.
