Good Evening 2 everyone here!!!

Read all the last 4 pages..and its very interesting..especially the concerns of ppl like me,concerned abt what will happen 16 days later,and the realistic and encouraging replies of all you guys..My prblm is also VA oriented,but its slightly complicated. So i would request you to look at it :)

My mock scores overall have been very consistent(in my signature)..They have ranged from 96.5 to 99.7, and i know its good..The problem is that out of the 11 mocks i hv given, i have managed a rank just 3 times,and I hv missed cutoffs in some section or the other..as many as 7 times in VA alone..In the beginning,I used to think of getting good scores overall,irrespective of percentiles in VA(since other colleges have sectional cutoffs as 80 or lesser)and had given up on IIMs. So I used to give abt 2 hrs to Maths,DI-my better sections,and just the last half hour for VA. So never got through the cutoff. In one of the Simcats just for a change I decided to do VA first,and then got through its cutoff,but since i gave it its due time,I missed on Quant and cldnt clear its cutoff ... So for the last 4-5 SimCATs i hv been giving more or less equal times to each section,but still overall its fine,but VA remains a prblm..Its just that my scores are slightly better!!!

i dont know what to do with VA..I tend to attempt everything in RC,and English usage..I jus leave questions on parajumbles and FIJ,since I m very very poor in that. Some days RCs give me marks,and others let me down. Other days it goes the reverse pattern. there is no pinpoint area where I continuously make mistakes,and no area where I always do fine either. Theres no pattern to this madness!!! Also along with logic,I also go with my gut feeling. If something doesnt sound good,I assume its wrong. This too works sometimes,and then it doesnt!!! What to do??

I don't think you can really afford to concentrate only on RCs to get you through CAT if you are planning to get into ANY good institute. You have to look at parajumbles and other grammar based questions, and you still have enough time to practise them. Half of the VA section in the CAT paper we wrote had these questions. I would suggest that you give it your all in these past few days. Keep at the quant and DI, but start giving just as much, or maybe even more time to the VA grammar part. Enough practise will get you through it for sure.

neways, talking abt the mcks 1st
Initially for arnd 10 AIMCAts , ma percentiles ranged between 70 to 85%ile
Dn i pulled up ma performance (at ds tym it wd be useful to tell dt i changed ma paper taking strategy to DI-QA-VA) and started getting +90%iles

in d last 5 mcks , have breached the 95%ile mark thrice and cleared ol d cutoffs in as many papers.

Now, the problems, I have been getting the thot that i have nt dne nething very concrete that i am witnessing good percentiles.
few of ma frnds are putting so mch labor that it scares d hell ot of me.
Sumtyms i get the thot that i am getting ovaconfident, ma cousins also reiterate it.


Nw the real problem for me is VA , i am attempting it at last and giving it almost 1 hour so that i clear the cut off.
Ma accuracy in VA avries like nething and have seen a 33 % accuracy.
I start wd DI as gradually i have realised that DI is ma strongest sec among the 3. and so getting some caselets dne in the 1st half an hr boosts ma cnfidence and gives almost 110-120 mins for QA nd VA , wd added confidence levels

Althou the above said strategy is helping me till nw , bt dunno abt d C-day.
Mah paper taking skills have been seeing me thru till nw and i am counting on ds.

For the last 2 weeks ,i have planned to take previous 5 CATs as mocks at hme and see hw i fare in dm.

ds wd take arnd a week and for d last week , in d 1st 3 days, i have planned to brush up ma basics and have a look at the mcks i have taken .and loads of masti in d last 3-4 days wd no stdy.
may be mvies and hang outs wd ma frnds to see off the tension.

Plz ppl, help me w d ma problems and tell me , if what i hve planned 4 d last weeks is optimal or nt

considering the time i can give around 50-60 hours only ( clg xams is d reason:sneaky:) at my disposal for next 15 days what should be ideal revison strategy
Q- should i revise only my strength topics like-geometry,numbers or give coverage to others as well like modern maths algebra,, in di more puzzles or more calculation based question!! thanks

Hiya, it seems like this is pretty much the question we all faced at the end of our preps. We didn't really know what to study, whether to focus on our strengths or weaknesses, etc. So, this is what I did -
1. I revised all the previous papers I had solved, because I might as well be thorough in whatever I have learnt so far. CAT is not about different concepts each time, but actually tests the same concepts in every paper over the years. Only the pattern of the questions and the way each concept is applied changes. Hence. REVISE YOUR SOLVED PAPERS!
2. After I revised my papers, my speed improved drastically, but it was still not satisfactory. So, hence, I solved more papers, right upto one week before the exam. In all these papers, I kept solving the questions which revisited my previously revised concepts (which covered almost everything), only concentrating on doing it faster every time. It helps to give even 5 minutes to going through the quant and DI questions, to choose which ones you're familiar with and can solve quickly.

Hope that answers lotsa queries here. BTW, in case you were wondering, my percentile was pretty decent too

On the same lines though, I have never seen any difference between the summer or final placements for boys and girls at IIMK, not even in its history books. I don't think anyone else has either :cool1:

hi seniors!!pls tell me d factors on which d summer placement of IIM's depend on..

Which institute you are in, which one you WERE in before that, how much did you score in exams starting from Xth standard in school, what sports you play, how much you have understood in your MBA studies (or can pretend to have understood) till the interview date, where you've worked before and what you learned there, how well you dress, talk, walk, interact with other people, your self-confidence, hobbies and extra-curriculars...etc.

hey I remember a lot of people who were once cursing our currently darling PGP10 batch for their antics and all...

This should make for an interesting year, there might be more bloody freshers in our junior batch than in ours. There seems to be a gross misconception among our new incoming batch that life at IIMK is all about serious studies and no partying Well junis, gear up and get ready to rumba, because as mandy says in his inventive signature upstairs, "Life @ K is a THRILL" , and in more ways than just the academic rigor! Like they say, there's a lot going on behind that calm mountainside facade, and you really will need to expand your horizons in more ways than one

On other things, the prep for summers, as Revant puts it, is going on in full flow. Albeit urs truly is pretty sad as far as getting knowledge on current affairs is concerned. Moi could never digest the fact that how can people read so many newspapers in one day.

Some things about the faculty this term. We have an awesome Man Acc 2 teacher, Mr Pankaj Gupta. Nice booming voice and everything, it looks like he knows everything about everything and is intent on making all the students in K like him All of his lectures are awesome. Thank god for small mercies, I think I will be able to gas some things he teaches in ma Fin interviews

More updates coming up (at least I hope to post regularly)

Summer season is truly here, and so are our mid-terms! Our BUSINESS ETHICS () course is almost over, and our Man Acc prof demands reflective notes (based on what we understood )

Ops research is an awesome course, and every class rocks

Fin prof is mighty nice, always ready with the latest fundae in the big bad world of finance. Of course that means we students speak too much in class

We've already submitted two assignments in ops. management, more to go :(



So much more to come, with end of summers party , Diwali , etc. etc.!!
