DarkJedi @vishu1092 That is true. We must weigh all factors before joining. Consulting which is the mainstay of ABCL is one area of concern. In these difficult times when invest. banks are holding their horses, the big shot consulting firms are a ray of hope for students to make a lucrative career There are no big names in consulting like Mckinsey, BCG AT Kearney etc. Even if u check with the story released a few days back by a leading magazine, the most desired names in marketing like Coke, P&G, HUL etc are not there. What could be the reason behind this, is it bcoz of the location. Please do correct me if I am wrong but these are concerns for most of the students.

Asadali @DarkJedi dude PnG , HUL etc visit only a few campuses.. and as i told IIMS is a new institue.... it will take some time to come up... i am amazed that how can people expect so much frm a college..

which is like almost 2.2 times the batch strength of IIMS hoping my facts are quite clear enuff and my multiplication as well :)
also as far as i knw u also got selected this year and i guess you are planning to join it so i am sure you are not still a student there and might not be aware of what is happening inside until and unless you have direct sources who give u every single info which is highly unlikely.... and now we are talking about IIM brand which i need to see down the line if its going to help me or not . and the reason that i asked will be a question in every single person who is going to join a college :).... and why should we not expect from a college , every one expects good from a college right i guess you too as well correct me if i am wrong dude!!

DarkJedi @Asadali Bro, I know that these stellar names only visit a few colleges. But the point I am contemplating is that Shillong is not one of them. Only the name itself doesn't make a career but from where(firm) you start your career from matters a lot in the long run. And I second @vishu1092 point that some colleges with much higher batch size(and full fledged reservations) are able to ensure a higher mean and median package. Plz don't take me wrong, I have nothing against IIM-S, it's a good college. But people who have choices and need to pick one or people who are ready to give CAT again to achieve their dreams need to clarify all the facts before taking the plunge. Especially in difficult market scenarios like nowadays. Bhai MBA ek baar hi kiya jata hai. That's what is the use of forums like PG, access to info and opinions.

swirling_storm Anyone who follows placements at B-schools inside out would compare last year's placement report and this year's placement report in terms of the huge increase in number of big brands visiting IIM Shillong. That itself shows the pace at which IIM Shillong is growing. IIM Shillong has completed 5 years of operation, which means that in the next academic year, the number brands is only going to shoot upwards! My sincere suggestion to all the aspirants out there is that, take the decision keeping long term perspective in mind.

Dwaipayan2020 Anirudha, thanks for the info. One more thing that I would really like to get clarified is what kept the 13 companies from not offering positions to students .
I know it is a scenario in every B-School but still as we are aspiring for IIM-S we are more interested to know the reasons here and do not really care about other B-Schools. Also as some of the interviews are conducted through video conferences , does it puts the candidates at a disadvantage ?

swirling_storm Companies do not give specific reasons as to why they didn't offer a position to the participants. Nor do they give feedback about any individual's performance. They generally give only the overall feedback about the quality of PGP participants. This year, all the recruiters were quite happy that they had established a relationship with IIM Shillong. And I am sure that this relationship will be long-term. 13 companies not offering positions to participants is not indicative of the quality of instruction at IIM Shillong. The level of instruction at IIM Shillong is demonstrated by the fact that the participants have won a number of laurels in a lot of national level management fests & Corporate case-study competitions by beating many other top B-Schools.
13 is just a number. What's there in a number of afterall?

When interviews are held through video conferences, the candidates are not at all at a disadvantage. IIM Shillong has infrastructure to give you more than enough practice to perform well in video-conference interviews. Also, a lot of companies follow this process at quite a number of B-schools. Hope this helps.

If i join NM or any college I am interested in Marketing,now I have heard that companies like HUL,ITC etc prefer freshers over ppl with work-exp so if i pursue marketing at NM with an average academic profile for which companies will i be allowed to sit for placements.I have 26 months of IT exper...
