My interview was on Sep 28.

Extempore: ‘Breaking news’ fallacy is the fallout of customer’s likes/ dislikes

Questions:

What’s your designation?

What does your company do?

Why do you want to do MBA?

You are already well settled, why ‘waste’ a year here?

We are looking for people who are junior executives and want to graduate to senior role, you are already in a senior role, how will IIMA add value?

What are the problems affecting your industry?

Who will take care of your business, while you are here?

US schools are better suited for networking, we focus on academics, how do you hope to benefit at IIMA?

This is not an industry specific program; do you think a general management program will help?

Do you a plan of what you want to do post PGPX?

Suppose you complete you PGPX program today, what is the first thing you will do?

Do you find any time for extracurricular activities?

What all do you read?

Last question - GK ?

Some key take away:

1. The essay topic ‘slip’ is shown to you and you are given time to note down your points on a note pad. Later they take the slip back – so if the topic is complex, please write down the topic on the note pad as you might forget the exact topic when they take the slip back.

2. I believe, the panel has not read the essays and the application before hand and they scan only when the applicant is given 2 minutes for extempore topic. So be prepared to barge in and highlight the key points in your application.

3. There is a time lag of 2-3 hours (depending upon the slots) between the reporting time and interview time. Have a hearty meal before reporting, you may need some energy to beat the stress and an empty stomach will not help.

4. No serious and heavy duty GK preparation is required. Prepare well for abstract topics and stand ready for a ‘plan B’ in the event of getting a topic which you are unable to get hold of.
