Wow - where do I even begin on this? Am gonna be very very brief, so if you have questions, ask
Why JS@Cornell is a fit for me:
1. Immersion program - the concept of an immersion BEFORE internship makes me go
PLUS: this is a customizable immersion program!
2. Amazing school spirit. I've seen it in alums and in the adcom. Probably the best adcom experience I've had. The alums are crazy about the school.
3. Location. Everyone cribs about it - but I wanted a school that forces its students to enjoy recreational activities together. If this were NYC, a lot of people would head out in groups after class to the city to do whatever the hell they feel like. At Ithaca, there is NOTHING to do
hahhaha. (I know it sounds funny, but I've spent my 16 years of education in 7 different educational institutions across the country and this is my experience talking)
4. School Spirit powering strong alumni connections. In the US, its not so much about on-campus placements as it is about networking. A strong alumni bond to the school will hopefully make it just thaaat much easier!
5. Small class size - concentrated to the point where there is sufficient diversity - but i know everyone in the class...
6. And last but not the least!! - the ability to take a large fraction of the courses outside of the school but within the university. Yours truly will be taking some of the courses at Cornell Law, one of the US' top 10 law colleges.
... of course, there are a lot more reasons - but these are just some of them that came to mind...
I do have a comment to make on the CUSTOMIZABLE immersion, I had the interview with CJ, and he expressed extreme disgust towards the customized immersion. His words were along these lines:
When u tk an immersion, the profs tk interest in u and groom u for a rounded profile to get the job u want and courses.. etc...
although, in custom, u belong to no group and hence, profs dnt really tk much interest in u. also, u dnt create a coherence with a group, u have none. very few ppl tk custom, who are very clear to what they want. an example is rajeshwar khara whose profile is available on the website as well.
He expressed serious disapproval of the custom immersion.
Just letting you know what i heard. You can make use of this info, i suppose.
