What was your merit no for Delhi wait list?.....

Hi!..
I am shortlisted for IIFT kolkata and received the leter today..I had a querry regarding the delhi waitlist.
The letter states that in case of vacancy at delhi centre, kolkatta students will be offered those seats on the basis of merit.

Simultanelously they are also giving the option of relinquishing the Kolkata seat for those keen on joining iift delhi only...in which case they will be put on the delhi waitlist and adm will be given on merit basis.

What I wish to know is that will there be any differnce in my waitlist rank for delhi in case of the two options?...I mean if I relinquish my Kol seat will I be given preferance over those who have their Kolkatta seats confirmed by payment of 1.68 lakhs and waiting for the waitlist movement?.....

Have done graduation in commerce...and completed MS(Finance)...Also have a 2 year work ex in finance...

shoukldnt it be "i need to file for an insurance claim....insurance claims,tax refunds,bankruptcy are all filed for,arent they???will be glad to get a clarification on this

Exactly file an insurance claim doesnt make any sense...it has to be file for......and if the 3rd option..."the cadets were marching in a single file ' is correct whats wrong with the 5th option..."when the parade was on, a soldier broke the file"...i mean the usage in terms of the meaning is the same...

I see that the karizma, mad angles ad is drawing quite some wraths here... I personally feel that the Karizma ad sucks too simply because when u do a wheely with ur rear wheel on grnd ur speed only decreases... so technically if the mud had not slinged earlier, it's impossible that it slings of during the wheely... unless the dirt bike gang is really muddophile...
Howver, I ve seen many people appreciate the wry sense of humour in the Bingo ads - atleast the Bingo ads get noticed by people - atleast that's what some of the MR results show. Now isn't that the sole pupose of advertising? To get the public know of the existence of a certain product called Bingo? :)

Yes bingo does gets noticed but for wrong reasons..The sole purpose of advertising is not just bringing your product in the limelight but to create a positive image in the minds of the target customers.. What bingo does is negative advertising...It has come up with the most wierd ads one could imagine
At one point negative publicity might help but negative advertising surely creates a bad impact....

I will start by giving veiws and counter veiws and what i believe..............
Veiws

1. Women require added advantage over men at grass root levels as they find it difficult to make an entry in the first place...be it a job or higher education. The advantage can be in the from of reservations or liberal work hours etc

1. The objective of providing advantage to women is to bring about an equality in the socio-corporate fabric which is still male dominated..You may name a few women CEOS like Indira Nooyi, Naina lal kidwai, chanda Kochar or women like kiran bedi, sunita williams, kalpana chawla but you can literally count such names on your fingers..the list of their male counterparts is never ending..That means these successful women have broken through the glass ceiling to reach there..

1. Women have to play a mother, a daughter in law, and a wife even if she may be at the top most position in the corporate world..In general women are a lot more tied down by family responsibilities which makes it difficult for them to be very competitive at work. As a result they stagnate at what ever positions they hold.

1. Companies have certain responsibility towards its employees and it should take care of the security for women when they are required to work late hours.. by providing transport facilities etc.

1. Each commercial organisation must have a special cell or council to address the greviences of its women employees.

Counterveiws

1. Women evade their duties at work by bringing up gender issues and their family responsibilities.

1. When working in the corporate world everying one ought to be competitive and promotions should be on the basis of merit only. Irrespective of the gender each one ought to work equally hard to achieve senior positions.

1. When there is no distinction in the salaries or rights enjoyed by the women why should they be given preferential treatment when it comes to committing themselves to duties.

My veiws:

1. Preferential treatment is needed upto some level to make corporate world a level playing field for both men and women.

1. The fact that only a few women have made it to the top clearly shows the existence of the glass ceiling.. Certainly there is nothing wrong with female brains which can be considered as a reason of their lagging behind.

1. In indian context women still has a lot of roles to perform.. She is still a home maker and has to juggle between her different roles.. That does not means rules dont apply to her when at work but we can always be a bit liberal as compared to what applies to males.

1. Giving advantage to women in the form of reservations, making special provisions for her security, liberal work hours etc might be necessary as long as we dont have an equal male female ratio in all the feilds..be it politics, corporate, sports etc.. After we achieve this we can make each field open for competition and then things can be decided purely on the basis of merit..

1. In short advantage to women( in which ever form required) should be only in certain areas where needed and should be for a stipulated frame of time..

We should look at women as one half of our society and it is the duty of the society as a whole to empower them and to bring them forward.

The purpose of starting this thread is to have a discussion where in people can pour in their veiws on topics that are generally asked or can be asked at gds.. Also we can have a good exchange of veiws on current topics which can come up as a gd topic...

We can keep a discussion open for atleast two days and then can start with another topic provided people pour in their veiws...

I think this excercise apart from helping us out in the gds will prove to be useful to polish our thought process and understand a topic from all dimensions....Also it will serve as a good preparatory resource for other people for their group discussions...What say puys!!!

Well pardon me if my post seems out of place on this thread..I am still new to pg u see...

But still i dont see any "discussion" going on as u say relating to the interveiw..

Its all just disecting the interveiw sentence by sentence..and commenting on it..I mean a sentence alone may give a different meaning and by putting it in context of the entire interveiw, the meaning might differ... and i went through all the comments but honestly i didnt find many of them genuine.. Anyways thats my opinion..

Since there was no value addition being done i just thought of putting my veiws forward..if that harms the purpose of this thread please help me and suggest a better place to transfer it....And sure we can discuss it out there...

I think the interveiw is not that bad.. its only that it may not be useful for us..Everyone one is free to have his her perceptions..

What she says about the importance of getting work done rather than paying attention as to whether a male or a female is doing it is true..

But still the fact remains that females find it difficult to climb up the corporate ladder due to several reasons...and the glass ceiling does exists...by the way this was the topic of debate on NDTV "we the people" last sunday.. There were many veiws and counter veiws...was very interesting and insightful..and this point of giving women advantage at work was also discussed..

I would like to briefly summarise the discussion.......
