I dono how far this idea is going to work for IIM's...

Did computer & internet reached every house of india?..... myself being a mathematics graduate haven't get used to computers till the end of graduation..............

So, a candidate like me have to take any computer course before taking CAT?

Already, IIM's have hiked their fees by huge % rate.......now CAT goes online..........all these are clearly hints showing Higher education is only for rich people:nervous:..........

My dream of IFMR came to an end...............

My GD/PI process was on March 20th 9 AM... The process was like,
Psychometric test, PI & GD.

I was mostly questioned on maths(since i am a B.Sc maths grad) eventhough i hadn't applied for FE.......... First looking at my marks in Maths in degree(87%), the interviewer said so u are brilliant in Maths..... good good...... that was the only time i had smile in my face:D..........After that questions were flowing from maths(mostly theory.. deeper maths).. i kept on saying don't know sir(since i have close to 2 yrs of exp in IT, i couldn't recollect anything).. then i was asked to solve a problem in the board....... when i went near the board, i could hear them talking among themselves saying that he is not fit for FE(though i hadn't applied):o.... it made me nervous... then later nothing went in favour of me till the end of interview...

My 15 minutes PI went only with questions on maths...... believe me(nothing else)

With this huge disappointment, i even messed up with GD(as everyone said, it was not like a GD, it was more like one-one discussion with moderator)

Aiming only for IIM's in CAT 08.

Now reason for which i can smile is, i booked tickets for the Test match (SA vs ind) in Chennai, but its heavily raining in Chennai:o

Finally my turn for the PI arrived. I was the last person for the interview. I was sent to the 3 member panel. One of the panelists was Prof. Jijo Lukose. I remember most of the questions asked but they are not in order.

1. Introduce yourself.
2. About Ayn Rand's philosophy.
3. About blogging
4. Why I think I'm fit for MBA
5. What I hope to get out of 2 years at IFMR
6. Do I know statistics and economics? I said No. THen one of the panelists went on to give me an idea of the course which is heavy on these. He then asked,"will you be comfortable doing these things?" I said that yes as I was good at all these things in school
7. Where I did my summer training?
8. What other calls I had? Will I join IFMR?

My interview lasted for just 10 mins while other people had 30 mins interviews each. I don;t know what to make out of this.:neutral:

As far as i know, there is nothing like 10min, 20min, or 30 min in an interview....... If the interviewer is satisfied and thought that ur perfect candidate for them in jus 10 min, then there is no point in interviewing u for 30 long min.:-P......... similary it can happen in reverse also, they might identify that u r not fit for them in 5-10 min......:sad:........ so, there is no minimum time for the interviewer, but there is a max time...... i believe it has to be 30 min....... b'coz no one said that their interview long last after 30 min..........

I can understand that no students will hve the guts to post their GD/PI experiences........b'coz they dont want to increase other's chances by posting their experiences.............

but still, if some1 cud come up with their experiences, it would be so nice of them

i hv my GE/PI scheduled on 18'th March 2:00 pm slot.
Me a Chennaiite and i can giv u guys info on Chennai geo, stay n all stuff...

Newcomers beware: Auto wallas are never cordial in CHennai... never get into one before negotiating d fare. u can expect double fares than those in many other cities. Auto meters r strict no no wid d drivers and be ready to digest any verbal abuse in case u get into a trouble wid dem.:eh:

Travel:
Train:
IFMR is in heart of d city.. Most of the long distance trains stop at Chennai central. Its wise to board another sub-urban train to Nungambakkam (IFMR is 10 mins walkable distance from Nungambakkam railway station).But, to board d suburban train, u gotto leave central station, take d subway to cross mount road and get into Park Station (geographically, park station is opposite to central station wid mount road in between :puppydog: ). From nungambakkam station(15 mins travel in train from chennai central), take the east side exit or ask for way to loyola college(yes... LIBA). Kothari road is 5 mins walkable distance from LIBA. Auto shud cost u upto 80 bucks(yes... for d 7 km travel) and 30 mins . Note: road from central to IFMR is one among the worst traffic hit areas in chennai.
Flight:
Again, its wise to catch a suburban train from airport to nungambakkam. This time, u need to walk upto the main gate, cross the GST road(subway construction is under progress) and get into thirisulam railway station(suburban trains r avbl at 10 mins interval during weekdays + saturday and 20 mins interval on sunday).Nungambakkam station is hardly 20 mins travel in train from airport. Else u can puch a deep hole in ur wallet by shellingout upto 150 bucks for an auto. travel time is around 1 hr on normal days. Due to flyover construction @ kathipara junction n GST road traffic, ur net travel time may shoot upto 150 mins(highly possible guys!!! :bomb: )
if u manage ur way upto nungambakkam railway station, u can also catch an auto till IFMR( may cost u around 20 bucks for the 10 mins walkable distance or 500 meters)

Stay:
Best hotels around are Le Royal Meridian(5 star), Savera(3 star), Park Sheraton(3 star), Taj Connemara(5 star) and The park(3 star).
Affordable ones are Gokulam park (Ashok Nagar), Hotel Aditya, Mourya international and .... ( i need to do some research on this.. will update soon)
Cheaper ones.... any lodge around (Girls dont get into them)

Party place:
Discs n pubs around....
Paasha (The Park)
Flames ( Le royal meridian)
Sparks (Savera)
Bikes n barrels (Residency)

Coffee Shops:
Mocha (Theme coffee place)
Cafe coffee day
Barista
(all avbl around Nungambakkam)

Hangouts n Shopping:
Isphahani mall (Nungambakkam)
Spencer Plaza (Mount road) (eatouts n branded showrooms...Biggest in chennai... u can do alll d shopping u want here)
Ascendas (near tidel park) ( KFC, pizza corner, etc...)
City centre (near egmore) (Inox, lifestyle, eatouts n branded showrooms)
Shoppers Stop (Nungambakkam)

Movie place:
Inox (near marina beach)
Sathyam cinemas (near spencer plaza)
Mayajaal (East coast road... quite a distance) ( also go karts, snow bowling, snooker, pubs n restaurents avbl here)

Beach:
Marina beach(longest one in asia) - Family crowd
Besi Beach - Couples crowd
Thiruvanmiyur beach - Freaking out crowd
Pebble beach - Dope crowd :black:

i guess this should do for the 1 or 2 days stay
Also, ppl here r very cordial (except for d autowallas) n very conservative too!!! (ppl from delhi n mumbai expect an unique experience here!!!)
Smokin n boozing in public may attract penality!!!


Red Alert :: Very very few in Chennai (or the whole tamilnadu) can speak or understand Hindi... u need to makeup wid English...
