well i don't think you need to be an MBA to be in consulting...but again it depends on which domain of consulting you are in...

the big 4's (deloitte, E&Y;, KPMG, PWC) hire people from various other backgrounds too...like CFA..or process consultants...or technical architects...or CAs

but for things related to Finance...an MBA degree is an added advantage.

You seem to be a bit mistaken. Consulting != auditing.
The big 4 that you mentioned are in auditing. The traditional Big-5 in consulting (not IT consulting but proper strategy) are: McK, BCG, Bain, Booz and Monitor.

P.S.: Deloitte, Capgem, Accenture & the rest also have strategy consulting groups but they're miniscule and/or insignificant compared to the bigwigs.

And I know the other guy who was rejected with a score of 780. Coincidentally, he was also rejected by INSEAD & HBS.

Not really. An overwhelming 47% of HBS' incoming class of 2011 have less than 3 years of WE. Almost 10% of the admitted students are from the IT and high tech sectors.

Nobody can really predict the kind of scores one needs to get into a top 20-30 Bschool. I know a guy who got rejected with a 780 score and another girl from India who got admitted to HBS this year with 690. All I can say is aim for 800 and give it your best shot. As countless others have said in the past, a great GMAT score might not necessarily get you into a top notch Bschool but a poor GMAT certainly won't.

Doing MBA from UK is not worth these days, the Job scenarios is very bad, the employers doesnt show any interset in recruiting International students, moreover it is impossible these days to find part time jobs as well, I am doing my MBA from UK and still struggling for Jobs either part time or full time. My suggestion to you Guys is that if you want to come only for studies then it is up to you, but if you are thinking of earning money, jobs in companies, either good or bad, think several times before coming here.

Where are you studying at? More importantly, what area are you targeting? Of course, you can't expect a top notch finance job just like that.
According to a couple of friends and ex-colleagues who are studying at LBS and MBS, the situation is obviously worse compared to previous years but not all that bad.

Guys, how's your CFA prep coming along? I've finished studying books #1 and #2. However, there are about a hundred pages missing from the scanned copy of book #3. Does anyone have that book in its entirety? Please post the download link if you have it.
