well, if u really wanna analyze an ipo, u ll havta project the cash flows of the company in future (to do this u shud have an idea abt the kinda growth which is expected) and then discount the cash flows by a rate which matches the risk profile of the company.

I think, it is due for a correction.. All FIIs will silently start profit-booking. and then the retail investors will take the burnt.

Dont be surprised if it falls to around 11K in next 2 months..

the Chinese dragon is back. chinese stocks have fallen by over 12% in 2 days due to government's decision to triple trading tax. one can be assured that the chinese ripples would be felt throughout the world. investors lost 350 bn USD in 2 days there.
and we must not forget that the last worldwide correction was started in the chinese markets only.

oh no. i ve already completed btech there. jes dat i wanted to share one good experience related to iitk mbas. markstrat is a computer game which is organized every year by the mbas there. believe me, you r gonna luv it. as the name implies it is a marketing strategy oriented game. we got to play it only once an year but mbas.

How is that possible? Let's take an example.

Tomorrow you have two kids. One comes back from school scoring 99% in maths and another 20%. What would you do? Do you treat them both the same way? Ofcourse, you love them both the same way but you dont treat them the same way. Your kid who scored 99% needs motivation to keep it up and the other kid needs motivation to do better.

It is the same with people.You need to treat people by merit otherwise there will be utter pandamonium. There is a thief and there is a banker. Both steal your money

I think this socialistic views are because of all the trash we get to read all the while about "the poor" are generally good and helpless beings and the rich are greedy bastards who exploit the poor. But, have we ever thought why the rich keep increasing their wealth?

When you are rich..you have better contacts and network. You come in contact with many ways to increase wealth. Hence, you invest your money into something that gives more returns. So, the rich becom richer.

The poor always think about today...for a poor man money is just a filler to his needs. He never looks at it as an investment. So, the poor remain poor.

forgive me for interrupting the discussion. i would just like to point out for gaming freaks among you that one of the good things in doing mba@iitk is that you get to play a wonderful game known as markstrat all throughout the year.
I was only a btech there and could play only once an year when the competition was organized by the mbas.

I am saying democracy by its design would end up choosing a corrupt socialist rather than a honest meritrocrat.

Disclaimers : Not implying all socialists are corrupt or that all meritrocrats are honest. Just pointing out democracy is heavily loaded in favour of the socialist.

agree completely. but somewhere inside i feel what use is meritocracy if it does not benefit the commons? if meritocracy implies a highly polarized society where the meritorious few reap all the riches while the commons live poorly, i don't wanna live in a meritorious society. I would rather prefer a more equal society.

Err....CS is an FPS really, although, one has to strategize there as well.

I had posted this a long time back but probably on a wrong thread.During
chat on shoutbox, I came to know at least 3 puys were intrested in discussing this topic. As there is not thread in this section on this
topic, I start this new thread. Find below an example to illustarte
my understanding of democracy.
In a small community, there were 10 people. 2 people used to earn
100 Rs each and the rest nothing. The 10 people decided to have
a leader. 2 candidates A and B.
A's manifesto - I will pool the entire money earned and distribute equally among all. Everyone knew he was corrupt and probably take 100Rs. for himself leaving 100 Rs to be distributed equally. Thus
each one would get 10 Rs.
B's manifesto - Since only 2 people contribute more, I will reward them by distributing 160 RS. of the 200 Rs. betweem the. The remaining 40 Rs., I would distribute to the rest of the 8 for the basic needs. So
2 people will have 80 Rs each and rest all 5 Rs. each.
Who do you think would win?
Thats democracy. Do you think merit would get rewarded in this system?
To continue the story - The 2 earning people saw no point voting and
stopped voting. So analyzing their plight an outsider says these
2 are in a bad state becuase they do not vote. Another says one of
the 2 should contest elections. Would these ideas help?

you are mixing socialism and democracy. you have problems with socialism and are criticizing democracy. to highlight this point, there could be another person C who takes the power by force and distributes 200 among 10 ppl. or there can be a person D who takes power by force and does not distribute anything.

I, on my part, would love to start playing the game again... But then I really do not want to flunk in the exams or anything (which will surely happen if I reassume all my gaming ways)..
