CTC as you correctly mentioned, stands for Cost to Company. What it really means is the total cost that the company would incur on you. which includes a lot of things along with the salary and incentive (if any) that you make.

A cleverly done average CTC would translate into a higher in hand cash than a poorly done high CTC, as you yourself pointed out.

Since you asked, while negotiating for the offer, just concentrate on the in hand salary, since the CTC can be converted into a minefield for the inexperienced.

Sharing with you my profile, just wanted to take your perspective on what are the right schools I should target and overall chances of getting through them.

GMAT: 740

UG: BE from University of Delhi; 67% (don't have GPA but for perspective this is about top 30% of the batch)

PG: MBA(majors Marketing) from an IIM, GPA 6.5/9, again can't convert to a standard GPA.

Work Exp: Working in a large FMCG as an Assistant Brand Manager for 2 years, handling 5 countries and an overall business of about $50 Million. Based outside india.

Extra Currics: Very Strong leadership through out 6 years of college. At IIM was the was the elected head of the entire students body representing 600 students.
Have headed teams of varying sizes from 2-100 for different student led activities such as National level Cultural Festivals in both colleges involving more than 2000-3000 participants from across the country. Headed the IEEE students chapter during Engineering.

Motivation for 2nd MBA:
1) 1st MBA without Workex hence while I able to learn new concepts was not able to appreciate it due to lack of work ex
2) Need a much more global & diverse group to learn with vs. what I got at IIM.
3) Career wise I see myself in a top Management consulting firm to broaden my experience in terms of both industry & problem; also finally heading big organisations in the long term.

Question:
1) where do you see me fitting in terms of school choice as per my career interests & my overall profile.
2) 1st MBA- what is the impact of my 1st MBA? positive or negative?

Have a very similar profile to yours: UG from DU, PGDBM from IIM, FMCG for 3 yrs and now handling imports in africa. OK, so the last part is not very similar, but still.

From what i learned in the discussions here, it is not too uncommon to do a second MBA, and it is better to do it earlier rather than later. someone recommended doing it before the barrier of 30 is breached.

When do you plan to give gmat? and in case it is not too personal, what campus and what company??

Problem:
How much would you recommend my going in for a second MBA? I am targeting US based b schools. By the time i would be applying to these schools, i would have nearly 5 - 6 yrs of management experience.

would you also be able to guide me in terms of which schools would be more suited? i was looking at H/S/W + kellogs/ Tuck, but i understand these are the best of ivy league colleges.

Even though I am myself asking for help out here, but I think I can draw from my CAT experience :

1. How many hours you will need to prepare depends on your current level of prep and your target. eg, in case you are already well versed with the format & quest types, you can manage with 3 hours daily. This would obviously go up as your level of comfort decreases. I myself used to manage 3 - 4 hours every week day and entire weekends for CAT

2. Even though the best time to take the test would be when you are satisfied with your prep, i doubt if you would have that much freedom
generally, nov to jan is the time that has been recommended to me

I have been a reader (and a small time member) of PG for a pretty long time now. There have been numerous times when reading the posts in different threads here have helped me solve my problems, ease my mind from stress, or generally helped pass time.
I am writing now, to ask for help from the informed junta here.

My Profile
B Sc Chemistry grad (2005) --> PGDBM (IIM L) (2007)
joined Pepsi from campus, and worked for 3 years --> shifted to an africa (2010) based co handling Import business in one of the west africa countries for the past 1 yr.

My Problem
Have recently started getting the bug again, and wish to prepare for GMAT, with the target of US/ Europe schools. Problem is I am not sure whether going in for a second MBA would be worth the trouble.

My Request
Would be grateful in case the junta here would be able to provide feedback/ opinion on the above problem. would really appreciate in case people who have already cleared GMAT can also enlighten me on their experiences; and whether any of them have ever faced a similar problem.

my thoughts for what they are worth ...

although so many people concentrate on making their profile diverse by any means possible, past experience shows that they have a problem defending it in front of the adcom. it becomes difficult for them to convince the adcom people that all the diverse activities that they did ( as mentioned in their application) is not just to create an artificial distinction to their candidature.

i think instead of chasing the chimera of diversity as represented by how many different areas you cover in your CV, its much better to first identify a few activities that are fairly interesting to oneself, and then concentrate on doing different types of activities in that field itself. for example, personally, i love biking, which on its own isnt all that diverse. but i can organise a trip to a scenic place taking on my friends, which makes it something that might just interest the adcom people, especially if we demonstrated some abilities that they might be looking for.
