For your first question, can you tell which OS you are using? if XP then try disabling unuseful servives. google it out and you'll find the ways to make your XP faster.

I really dont the the answer to your question on how much you should get it for selling the lappy.

last question, dell vostro is good and HP DV 9000 series is good. You have to decide for what purpose your lappy will be used. like gaming, multimedia or simple word processing..You can get more gyaan here

hey can anyone help me out here. i have a toshiba satellite laptop which i bought in the states in 2006. well anyways it has a celeron processor 1.4ghz and 512mb ram with a 80gb hardisk.
i defragment the hard drive regularly but it still is very very slow(i know its a celeron)
if i sell it how much should i expect and for a budget of under 50000 are the dell vostro s a good buy???

You can install the free version of Grisoft antivirus, from http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php

Be sure to disable AVG before running Grisoft so they don't fight each other, and be sure that you aren't online while you disable AVG.

i think this should solve your problem.

For firewall i think ZoneAlarm is good, but whatevever firewall you'll use alot depends on how you configure it.

I've Taken a cable internet connection and since then the problem started...
a worm named AGOBOT.9.E entered my system and i tried to remove it using AVG Antivirus... Initially it was wiped out but it keeps on entering my system.... (Dunno why it loves my system..) My OS is Windows 2000 Professional (NT based).. i reloaded the OS but the problem still persists.
can any one help me in this regard....
Does the usage of a firewall reduce this problem? If YES which Firewall to use....??

Suppose that there is some thread which is locked or is too old and it has been moved to recycle bin..so my post count reduces with it??

does it affect the stats of the forum...like number of threads etc..

This is the policy for deleting locked threads which is generally followed -

Moving threads to Recycle Bin?
Threads are moved to the recycle bin in some days after being locked. The user when logs in next, can see the reason for locking in the last post by the mod. Redundant threads over the past 3-4 months (leaving the very recent ones) are moved to the recycle bin periodically, so that they dont pop up everytime in the search results. Spam Threads that need to be taken away asap are moved into the recycle bin immediately and threads that we need to keep for the users to view are just locked and left. The clean up of moving to Recycle Bin is periodic and done whenever any Super Mod/Admin has a lot of time to spend on PG!

As per my knowledge faculty is on rotation basis for all the TIME centers ie they are not fixed for some particular center..so it means you can join any center.
