Just prepare for CAT.

Excluding Group Discussion process, almost everything will be similar to Actual Paper-Pencil based CAT. Infact this year, the questions were much similar to CAT1991-2003.

So prepare for the same and attempt the old CAT Test papers (which you can easily google) and try to get an effective score around 45/100 (with marking system as +1 and -0.25).

For interview, just improve your communication, calrify your goals, get hold of your academics and try to score above 80% in your 10+2.

I am not trying to be offensive, however, do you have any other suitable option which resist you to go for this Course ?

Tell you what, 5 Years from now, after your Graduation, without any proper Work Experience, going for an MBA from better IIMs then IIM-I, as a Male candidate in General Category, would be as difficult as clearing IAS / IPS Exams. The conversion ratio would be somewhere around 200 : 1 for Freshers. An if you go for an Engineering Degree right away, the task would be even more difficult, because all the Management Institutes are now trying to make things more difficult for Male Engineers in order to increase the chances for Female and Non-Engineers.

So if you feel you have the Talent to prove yourself Best among 200-250 aspirants, or you have strong desire towards IITs or Top Medical Institutes now, than obviously this course is not meant for you, else you know the answer.

I can understand your dilemma …. I would like to share my views on this……

1) First you need to decide on this whether you really want to make your career in Technical or Management.

2) If it is Technical than you can always add or switch to Management on your Profile in the later stage. However if it is Management now you cannot add Technical at any stage of your career.

3) If your dream is to be in IIT and if you are confident enough to make it, than forget about everything and just simply go for it.

4) If your dream is IIT + 3 yr Exp. + IIM (the best but also the most difficult path to opt), then also simply continue with your IIT preparation.

But by selecting this path the level of competition you will face would be mathematically like

i) Of every 50 JEE aspirants, only 1 can make it

ii) Of every 5 CAT aspirants from IITs, only 1 can make it

iii) So virtually it would be like, Of every 250(or more) aspirants, only one can make it to IIT + IIMs.

5) However, if your dream is IIM, then you simply don’t have to face any competition now, because you already have cleared it, and then there is no reason to invest your efforts on IIT.

6) According to me, if there is a simple choice between IIT and IIM, then I will opt IIMs.

7) If you are uncertain between PGP and IPM from IIM-I, then you don’t have to, because the last 2 yrs of IPM = PGP. The first 3 yrs of (IPM + IGNOU), is always better than any 3 or 4 yrs degree from any Institutes other than the IITs.

8) The Institute will always support this program and the students associated to it as this is their first initiative and they don’t want it to be a failure for any reason. So no point to think about the future of this course as it is similar to the future of PGP.

9) In terms of Infrastructure, I believe all the older IIMs are simply incomparable and IIM-I is like a heaven in Central India.

10) Last but most critical point, “What is your Aim? “. If you able to answer this, than you simply don’t have to think too much about the other mentioned points.

Hope my analysis and suggestions might come relevant to you, rest is your call.

My younger brother (very serious for JEE-2013) also made up his mind to join IPM this year.

I hope most of you might have a check with your AT Results.

For people who couldn’t make it, consider it as an opportunity to do better in your future prospects.

I reckon if you opt something which go well with your interest, and can also assist you on your career, after that go for a couple of years of experience and subsequently try your hands for some Premiere Management Institutes in or Outside India.

And those who made it to the next level, I would prefer saying “Do Your Paramount” and “Best Of Luck” rather congratulating them, for the reason that it’s not the time for you to enjoy, in fact it’s time for you to gear up and start preparing for the Interview with extreme intensity.

You left with only a week time to groom your Academic and Soft Skills. Meantime you need to prepare your Resume and other related documents. Believe me guys, you have very little amount of time, wasting a day at this time can cause you lose your finest chance of being a part of one of the Top Ten Management Institute in India.

Being an MBA from IIM is a dream for Millions of Indians, and only handful could manage to make it. And you guys have all the option to be there for 5 Years and that also without even attempting CAT.

Just make this your target and do everything whatever it requires to convert your call.

The best possible way I can suggest is speak with the CAT-Entrance Coaching Institutes (like CL, IMS, TIME, PT etc.). I presume once they know that you have cleared the AT they possibly may train you for free of cost.

Remember one thing, that you guys are competing with some of the best minds of the country, so don’t let anything come between you and your victory.

If you be the last person to get admission than the world is yours and if you are the first person to left out than you have to prepare again for a new race.

Forget about all the stats and analysis at this point of time, as by all means you have to give your best shot.

Well I was expecting this question from you all.

I am not challenging Career Launcher, but my assessment could largely differ from CL’s article.

All my implications are basically from the inputs I have from my younger bro (he appeared in AT yesterday) and also by going through the last few Pagalguy posts.

(I again state this that all the below information are only indicative.)

Overall the paper was on difficult side for a student of around 18 years of age, it possibly was more of Under Grad Level and gives an impression of actual CAT to me (ie similar to CAT 1995 – CAT 2003).

(For my ease, I am doing all my computation on taking the scores as +1 & -0.25 and not +4 & -1.)

Vocab Sections might have around 20 feasible questions and Quant might have 30, many aspirants might have cracked 15(or more) in English or maybe 25(or more) in Quants, however there will be very few who have got hold of both the sections equally. The IIM committees generally are in search of such candidates who have gone decent in both the sections.

It will be hypothetical or impractical to say that it’s easy to score over 50 (until and unless the paper is leakedJ). The topper might have a score of 60 however considering 420 Interview calls it is way out of reach for 99% of the aspirants.

In my opinion, 50 attempts in total with at least 40 of them getting correct is the best effort for the paper. A score of 35-38 will surely bring back an interview call with some proper weight age for the final evaluation. The score of 30 could refer to the 80^th Percentiler.

Though I am not 100% sure about the facts, but I think around 2700 legitimate candidates appear in the test out of which approx. 2100 would belong to General Category (lets eliminate other category as they have entirely different selection procedure). So, all the 80+ percentiler’s (ie top 420) will receive a Face to Face Interview call. However, the candidates among top 120 (ie above 95%ile) will have true chance of converting it. I believe that at least 50 selected candidate will be among these top 120.

In my earlier post I have mentioned that the waitlist could be moved till the 80^th rank holder in the merit list, so the other 30 students will be shortlist among the rest 300 candidates. These 30 students will have to prove their competency with some unique or uncommon reasons in their Interview procedure.

Now the next concern is, “How to prepare for the Interview?”.

Well the first thing you guys need to do is to believe that you will receive the Second Stage Evaluation Process call. Now with only 10 days left for the written test result, I would recommend you guys to start preparing for it. Since many of you may not have any other serious commitments, so preparing for Interview is never going to mess up your career. Speak with any of your seniors or any Management College Professor or a mentor from any Coaching Institute. Get proper inputs from them and start working for it. Trust me, even if you don’t receive the call, this preparation is always going to help you in future. Rest is your destination.

Well with my understanding thats exactly is what required.

40 Correct Attempts (and 8-10 negative attempts) can easily make you the most eligible candidate for the final conversion.
