This was my 5th attempt at CAT (just couldn't resist taking the xam )..had 5 calls in '06 (ACLIK) & 2 calls in '07 (IK)..converted I in '06 and K in '07 but didn't join...went in with the mindset that this would be my last attempt whether i make it or not n i guess this helped in cracking the xam with just a week of prep (though i had prepared for GMAT(770) which also helped a lot). My take on CAT is that the attitude matters a lot no matter what kind of questions (tough/easy) they throw at you. And a good percentile is half the battle won but just half.

Regarding GD/PI: The way you communicate is very critical...everyone will have their own views and more often than not it would be hard to classify them as right/wrong..hence the presentation becomes important as it reflects maturity and confidence and also listening to what others say...for PIs its okay to not know some of the factual questions that are asked but one can't afford to falter on hr related questions...one key tip which helped me the most was to pause for 5 seconds before speaking (for PI)...its much easier said than done..but has a great impact and the best way to achieve this is to practice as much as possible thru mock PIs and talking to oneself and with frnds...

Given in your best and always have a plan B ready. All the best.

Number of people present 10 (1 guy was rescheduled for 25th & 1 guy didn't turn up)
Time: 2 mins to think, 10 mins to discuss, 1 min summary for all in random order. I was the 4th or the 5th guy to summarise.

Brief Snapshot of the discussion: A lot of points came up and lot of facts as well. The group came close to the conclusion that mobile phones should be used responsively. Spoke 3-4 times.

Panel Members Intro: Old prof (O) - very chill, Young Prof or Alum (Y) - chill.

O: Pls have a seat and tell us something about yourself.
Me: schooling, college, interenship, BTP, extra-currics, work-ex, future goals, hobbies....they just let me speak for quite some time...was geeting a bit nervous towards the end.
O: What do you read?
Me: took a couple of names of authors and books. Also mentioned management related books to which he made a face and said i'm not interested in those.
O: Tell me what makes you like a fiction book.
Me: took an e.g. (the fountainhead by ayn rand). Talked about what & why i liked the book.
O: asked a question about a point i had mentioned in my gd
Me: gave an ok answer (as per me).
Y: What all consulting firm do you know of?
Me: (Had mentioned in my career goals) Told 7-8 names. He added the big 4.
Y: Assume that you are leading one a firm like any one of the big 4..wouldn't there be any conflict of interest and how would you handle that.
Me: talked abt ethics and the past scandals related to auditing. gave the point that there should be a separate business dev. function for the two domains: auditing/consulting. soem more blabering on the same.
Y: Why do you want to do consulting?
Me: gave 2-3 reasons. Was more or less prepared for this one. He looked convinced.
Y: What do you knnow about the comsulting activities at IIM C.
Me: (didn't know much) just mentioned the consulting club at iim c (wasn't very sure of this)
O: any question for us?
Me: (didn't know what to ask) asked about the mentorship program.
O: gave me an elaborate ans.
O: a fun question..guess which streams are we both from.
Y: you are into analytics so you should be able to guess.
Me: :)..sir its hard to guess..for O my guess would be Hr and for Y finance.
They laughed.
O: Whats is your %ile.
Me: told.
O: B didn't give you a call.
Me: No Sir. B & L didn't give me a call.
O: so you have A, C, K & I.
Me: Yes sir.
O: okay. you can go. All the best.
Me: thank you sirs.

Overall a very chill iv. hoping for the best.
