But you make it look like you were transformed overnight - from a miserable wreck - into a trouncing champion! I really do not believe such makeovers can happen instantaneously - so if you could please explain what made you like the bad bad world outside all of a sudden - I would be grateful.

I have been charged by you for surrogate mktg. Except for mktg International relations of IMT (which i accepted followed by a ) , i havent marketed anything.. Have been a responsible Puy till date...(numbers speak for themselves)... only making sure people are not misguided by any toms and harrys around. (P.S. This is not a reference to you. Anyway, so I'll not bring in my college anywhere. Lets just assume that I am in a "B" Grade college.. as maverick likes to call it .. I say, why even "B" .. lets say an "F" grade college. Alright ? Now hoping that I have satisfied Mav's ego, i'll come to the point and answer the very justifiable question asked by Meshed.

The change ..

The change in me was surely not an overnight change. I must admit here that some catalysts for the change are things which are really personal. Was seeing someone who wasn't from India & for that matter, had left the country. It was hard to keep going on sitting here 7000 kms away, and spending nights on skype with the pressure of CFA mounting by the day, was just not an option. The time that I decided that I had to get out of it, was really important to me. I objectively thought what I wanted to do and where I was. I connected well with some of my classmates and discussed my situation with them. & They helped me big time!! I must make a mention here of one of my classmates, who's a CA ... a very successful person in his own right.. left KPMG (now u know how successful...) .. has worked for hedge funds for 2 years.. etc etc. We all naturally respect him a lot.. and he surely helped me come back on track . . helped me garner the competitive spirit that he had seen in me when i joined the college and which had apparently gone out the window in a few months after that. I stopped networking with "junta" and made sure that I was always around with the people i really respected and cared for. And also realized that it was important to have 3 good friends than "networking" with 300 others .. (not to say that it's not important..but u need to strike a balance which was missing in my life) ..
A simple & passing advice from a senior also helped me realize that it was important to listen to what the teachers said in class. Although i have always been the bloke sittin on the last bench dozing off all my life (including training in IBM) i thought, if i am trying out new things, then i might as well, listen to the "crap" the profs churned out. Boy! and was i wrong.. Come to think of it, if u "actually" listen to what he's saying, it's not "crap" ! it does make sense !! and makes more sense if you listen to 3-4 consecutive classes, without bunking/dozing off in any of them.. a class in as clichd (personal opinion) a subject like HR mgmt, was so damn interesting !! Industry relations, a topic cant get simpler than this . . however, u can understand the nuances, only when you listen to the prof (unless u love reading course books. .which i frankly would rather avoid in favour of listening to profs) ...
Also, what helped was to bring in some discipline in my rogue lifestyle .. and one pretty irrelevant thing, also helped me .. that was in.com .. having access to CNBC all the time .. it was a gift !! {P.S. Yeah!! .. maverick . i am marketing TV 18 now . . } {wait, am i doing my internship in Network 18 ?? }

Anyway, I really am keeping busy these days .. in my "B Grade" Bschool ..(man, at least call it "A-" if not "A" or "A+" !! lol .. ) just came here to reply cuz one of my friends actually called me up to send in a reply .. Am unsubscribing from this thread. Hope i have been of some help to at least some of you .. look at things positively. You get respect if you do well in what you do.. and that helps a lot! .. you dont need to be in the "most powerful committee" of any college (if there's any such thing, per se) ..

Okay before i begin .. i must tell you that i really do not have time to be typing all this ,. but am doing this only to make sure that no aspirant gets misguided .. and since link to this thread was sent to me by one of my closest friends .. who is also an aspirant .. i felt even a greater

need to reply ..
First my intro .. I am in IMT Ghaziabad .. Finance (It really was the hottest choice when we

started our MBA journey..but I did have my own reasons for taking it up.. anyway) ..( Batch

of 2010 ) .. and i am not in our Media committee .. i am in International Relations .. (And

boy do we rock ! -- sorry for surrogate marketing . .lol ) ..
anyway ..
so first of all "the truth" ...
What the 1st guy (i think mavrick . .) said is absolutely true .. the life in a b-school is tough

.. in fact CAT and GD PI is the easiest thing of the whole story ... it really is not for those

weak at heart .. Now talking about the truth .. i have been through almost everything .. and

maybe more of what maverick talked about .. failing in relationships.. getting annoyed by

the buttering .. crying in loneliness when u're surrounded by 100s of people .. feeling that

this whole MBA thing is a big hoax and nothing else .. all of this .. and most importantly .. i

have been disturbed by the mere amount of alcohol and smoke that Bschoolers find around

them .. (this is true for all Bschools) and being a teetotaller is a little hard (I havent given

up.. still a teetotaller.. lol ) .. anyway ..
but the good point is . . once you are engulfed into this whole experience .. you realize that

everyone .. YES .. everyone goes through these feelings .. and there is some sort of

disturbance in someone's life .. no matter how great it looks from outside .. and this is

where you start to learn to deal with all the problems .. you start to realize that corporate

life is going to be even more demanding .. even more hard to believe .. and even less value

adding than you think it will be ..
and this is when u need to step up and decide for urself .. what are you going to do with

your life ? and the moment you see that phase coming to you in a bschool you will have

accomplished what you started out for.. many people go out of bschool without having

experienced this .. and they surely keep failing till they do . and this is irrespective of the

bscool u r coming from..
maybe all this was a little too hard to comprehend ..
let me put it in simpler words..
life for me, in my 2nd term was really hard .. all these aforementioned feelings started to

haunt me day after day .. till i cracked ! one day my roomie entered the room only to see

half of the room on the floor and half the stuff broken .. that was me .. in utter frustration !

but then came the third term, where my life changed in a big way.. now i am in control of

how i spend 19 hours of my day (6 hours of classes in college) .. and now i really feel that i

am "IN CONTROL" of not only my present .. but also my future.. i could not have done this

withoutt IMT .. and without my peers.. (a lot of whom,initially, i hated from bottom of my

heart) .. i already know what i want from my life, how i am going to achieve it .. and all the

things feel like falling in place .. day after day .. week after week .. life has surely become

harder .. i only get to sleep for 4-5 hours a day at the most .. and still the work does not

seem to end .. and am sure all tthis will pay off one day .. in fact .. as i type this my nose is

running .. i have fever .. out of over exertion .. but what the hell .. i aint stoppping for

anything or anybody ..
I only hope that I keep going on .. and that my peers in my college start feeling the same

way . the peer learning would reach new heights ! and trust me, going by what our faculty

says, finance (they say) is the best class in the batch .. and yes.. i have surely seen the

toughest of competitors in my class.. and yes, surely. . many have lost track .. just like

maverik has .. just like I had (in the past) .. but the day this will change for them would be the one they'll remember for the rest of their lives..

I understand that recession is going on and the picture may not be as rosy as in the past,but can you tell us about the current scenario of summer placements as to how it has went for IMT....I sincerely would like to know this as IMT is my lone call till now and I am really serious about joining it if I convert the call.

See summers was still worse this time round .. In fact .. (you need to double check on this, cuz i cant compare and take names) .. one of the iims had a blackbox summers(for some part of it.. where in they only "informed" people about the companies "they must" choose to do their summers in) .. and every bschool suffered.. because all the companies went to colleges only to 'maintain relationships' .. (this is our general perception).. cuz those who hired 5-6 ppl till last year, hired only 1 (or max 2) !! and they all played safe .. they hired people with relevant work ex.. (whereas till last year there was a trend of freshers getting advantage!)..
so a lot has changed in these days .. and in fact it has been a great learning for all us budding managers.. the best time to be inside a bschool .. !! so we could brainstorm about strategies of comanies.. ! ( but its no rocket science! just applied common sense .. lol ) !
So all you can do is .. have faith in yourself .. and your abilities.. & work for GD PI than worrying for summers for now .. let the placement committee of your batch work for it .. and surely they will do a good job ..

Now here's something about IMT .. and I hope you all would find this post useful.. There is a very gentlemanly figure by the name of bad_experience who, I think, needs a good girlfriend if not anything else .... lol .. Jokes apart .. I am not here to allege someone of being dissatisfied with his life.. i am here to give my genuine opinion ..

Talking about my own self.. I had 98.24% in CAT and had only 2 calls IMT and MDI .. I did not want to go to many other colleges, and hence had not even filled forms of any of the symbis,NM,XIMB, IITs etc. (not claiming that IMT is better than any of these colleges, but anyway.. this is how it was) .. And when i was supposed to fill IMT form, I was had put only FIN in my options .. because I only wanted Fin .. if i had to come to IMT. Naturally IMT was my default option.. and I had to stick to it since my MDI did not convert (on account of low %ile .. and i did not fill up MDI PGPIM & HR, which btw, I would have gone thru, going by the waitlist rank) ..
Anyway ..
Talking about IMT "EXPERIENCE" ..
I must say that initially there was always a thought at the back of my mind, that I should have waited one more year for the IIMs than joining IMT .. and this is going to happen no matter which B school you join .. if you join the I K L , you'll feel the pinch of not being in A B C .. if you are in ABC you'll miss the ISB .. this is never ending story ..
The point is that, those who can make the best out of what they get, will outshine.. no matter what .. and those who want to be mediocre or are comfortable being so, will fail.. I personally know 2-3 IIMites .. from B and C, who were jobless last year .. (when there was no recession) .. they all had gotten pink slips in their respective jobs..
Sticking to IMT, it goes without saying that we have the best infra here, and respectable faculty and placements..
Now i know i am making a big statement here, because not everyone wil agree with me..
Now .. WHY should you pay heed to what I am writing and not to others ? For the simple reason, that I can at least claim that I know a lott (and by a lot .. i mean .. a lottt ) of people all across Bschools.. (Courtesy - Being on Pagalguy for 3 years now, helped me build my network) ..
So anyway, the problem we have in Indian MBA scene is that we actually dont have super awesome faculty anywhere.. there are surely going to be very few faculty members who'd make the class a great fun place and would teach concepts while they are at it ..
Trust me, this is not going to happen .. WHY ? We need to understand the fact that just like IMT is not our first option of a BSchool, teaching was not necessarily their 1st choice either !!
And I work in International Relations of IMT, (btw, we just beat IIM A in ranking and we do have a rock solid exchange program, even bad_experience will agree here )lol .. so i have enough knowledge about the remuneration faculties get abroad, and when we meet them, sometimes we even get to hear that teaching was the goal they had since they were kids ! so this is one thing which any Indian B school per se will always have difficulty with .. cuz frankly we are never going to have harvard passouts as our profs.. (And I frankly and openly state that I "DO" believe there is a lot of diff. betwn A B Cs and other gloabally respected bscools) .. so i will never go to the extent of saying that IIM passout profs are the best of the lot.. cuz frankly they need not be.. it is very subjective. Somebody from a small town in Bihar can be a better teacher than an IIM A alum..
So unless you know that all other Bschools have awesome faculties with a zest to teach, comparing faculties of Bschools does not make sense. because at the end of the day, it is peer learning that is going to be of more importance than faculties..
and so many of my IIT/IIMites friends, (some of them who were even working at wall street) had a splendid record of sleeping in the classes.. so at the end of the day, its upto a student really ..

Talking about placements.. I must tell you that before you make any judgement about IMT placements please find more BAD_EXPERIENCE guys from other Bschools .. who'd readily reveal figures and you will realize that situation this time round is really bad.. EVERYWHERE !! my friend in ESCP EAP (France - top 10 europe) is still to find her internship !! Things are bad all across the globe .. forget petty and trivial arguments between colleges like IMT MDI SIBM etc.. its no use .. we all are at the receiving end rt now, because our senior MBAs screwed up on wall street and other places! (even when they got hefty paycheques..lol) ..
Even so .. IMT is at least not in the league of those colleges who have "OFFICIALLY" declared that they are not going to place every student! ..in fact the best part is, the profiles have not been compromised upon..

And as for package.. use ur common sense guys.. we all are managers here (at least budding managers) .. assume you are running a company, you'd definitely be in a better bargaining postion when it comes to hiring.. and it helps you cut costs and get a raise for cutting costs !! so no matter which bschool you are in, you will have to face the wrath of the senior managers being greedy !! lol . and dont worry,we all will get there soon doing the same thing ! cutting costs and getting raises for cutting costs ! lol !!


Faculty and placements.. i think i have answered these two points.. if anyone wants any more clarification u can PM me and i will answer the queries here on the thread..

Bottomline is . IMT is a nice place to be in .. and you need to make the best of every opportunity that comes your way .. there are people who've better job offers than half the IIM A B Cites.. so .. opportunities are present .. its just that, are YOU worthy of encashing them ? If yes, IMT Is the place to be .. if not then .. you dont deserve to be here anyway.. So carry on elsewhere buddy !
(P.S. The guy having a supposedly low package with a PSU .. i know him personally . . it was not a random decision that he has taken. the profile matters a lot .. and am sure in 1 to 1.5 years, when the recession recedes, he would definitely be bagging the best package in the industry.. ) ..
See bad_exp dude.. there is a thought process which not everyone understands.. its not your fault.. Saari kahaniyan sabhi ko samajh aatin .. to this world would have been a better place to live in ! lol .. but sadly it isnt so.. it just isn't !

I have been quitely observing this thread for past 5-6 motns atleast. and now that IMT is out with another list and another date, i just felt like speaking my heart out.

1)It all started with extension of dates for application - nothing wrong with that

2) sending out of calls for interview - for ppl who applied b4 cat and after cat seperately. - ok

3) changing the cut off for ghaziabad from 95 to 96 -- ??? i dont quite understand this.
even b4 they declared cut offs they wld hv known how many applications they have got.
how is it that only at a later stage they realize that enuf ppl r in waitlist and they dont need ppl below 96. Not very professional i say .... but ok, taken with a pinch of salt. they hold all the rights.

4) NO TRANSPARENCY AT ALL !!!!!! i know few other colleges also dont come out with proper lists n all but we have a very dangerous trend here. will come to that later.


5) one of my frnds who for Fin in first list and did not accept the offer, even TODAY site says congatulation!! Ok did not update the DB. its OK not very professional again.

Now the main issue........

I did a lot of research n how things r in this institute. bieng from delhi, I got to know something about this place, we all know wat im talking about, but seniors assured things had changed in past few years.
It was counceling last yr. ppl with ranks ~500 got FT. yes u read it right.
admits went upto ~1200 rank.
ok many ppl dint turn up not expecting seats at their rank but frankly had all turned up, by any means rank for last admit wld not have been less than 800.

Now this year...Our own diablo who is very active and all wld know him and his case, got IT in the first list I belive. plz correct me if im wrong. wanting to upgrade to FT from IT he had to wait untill May end list. Again plz correct me if im wrong.

lets analyse this. In WORST CASE, say ALL 60 ppl in IT wanting to upgrade to FT, and diablo's rank bieng last , last among all who got IT, it wld hv required a clearence of just 60, just 60, for him to get upgrade. he got it eventually, but when is also important.

last yr when ppl with ranks 1200 got admits, this yr we find even movemnt of 60 so difficult.

I guess i need not say anything more. I hope IMT is not back to its old ways.

It will be for ppl who converted to see the quality of the batch.

and It will be only for them to see.

I hope the deserving got thru.

All these days , right from the day I got through IMT, that was way in the first list, I have been defending IMT in all ways possible . . . And trust me, I have gone out of my ways to get this done.. I dug out different logics for this admission process and floated various ideas as well ..
But today came as a big disappointment for as hardcore hard headed person like me as well.. and now I am almost pretty sure , there is something seriously, seriously wrong .. Not that I believe that IMT is back on its old tracks, it need not do that (cuz fees is high and ppl will join, all seats will get filled no matter what) . . so there is surely something else. What is that ?? We don't know .. A whole community of people here at IMT thread at pagalguy, which has ppl frm at least above average IQ level can't find that out.. Its not even close to anyone's guess.
I am disappointed in the fact that its already 7th june .. 15 days from program to begin and here we are with clueless waitlist clearances. Weird things going on ..
There's applying strategy , and there's just working under some kind of paranoia.. and somehow the line is being crossed from former to the latter.

A very good frnd of mine, with decent GD PI and 98.2% has still not converted. One more guy, converted FMS, and at 97.97 is still waitlisted ! not that he will join, but at his %ile, and the fact that he has FMS convert, shout out loud that his GD PI was as good as he claims.. Now these ppl are still waitlisted. Not even IB or IT convert for them yet.Not to mention FT or worse yet Fin..
Not to mention the problem that , no senior has taken enough interest lately to come around and reply back to the queries.. Everyone in B School knows how PG makes things easier for everyone out there (even non-members) .. still noone has bothered !

And even more, not to mention, the fees link is down and out , speculations are on fire if the fees is going to be restored (i doubt that will happen though)

Guys, all I have to say here, from my side is that, I know the pain you are going through. was in MDI waitlist, and even tho MDI was really very professional in its approach, the wait was excruciating. So trust me, when I say this.. I understand .. I can feel it..

Still its just to say , just hold it a little longer . . Reason, huuuuuuuuge amt of ppl are not going to join IMT, and thats a fact, so everyone, just sit tight and most of u who are active on PG here (and obviously u are active here since u had decent GD PIs and u feel u have chances.. ) .. so just hold on a little longer...
And most importantly, when you actually do convert, make sure you join hands with me... We can try and make some difference next year.

P.S. Seniors, we know you have summers going on, but would just stress here that even one post from ur side can calm a lot of nerves around.. So please do send in some good signals.. You are the hope, you are the energy which is driving ppl like me inside the institute .. :waiting for seniors: ! :infinity:

Dude.. as far as ppl in lower end of WL are concerned, our nos. are decreased by 43.. mine was 204 .now its 161.. so thats the logic..

The PGPM waitlist movement is 133
So congrats to all puys who have converted. And waitlisters, the next date will probably be 14th June

Its only 43 and not 133 man !

Anyway .. one final waitlist on 14th i guess.. people <50 WL .. sit tight !

Have you received joining letters..I still haven't received mine..I have checked through the Indian Speed Post website which says that my DD's were delivered on the 3rd of June..In how many days more can I expect the joining letter..?

JOining letter took a lot of time.. I was cleared in the initial result and got the joining letter 2 days ago. So chillax !

IMT people have removed the new fee structure link from the admission page.
What does that mean?

By God if IMT increases fees further, I am going out . . .In that case, CAT 08 here i come .. and also, those guys who had borrowed my books, notes, papers, etc. are in for some good amt of disappointment !
