HI puys, I'm a fresher and I have also got through. Can anybody tell me what are the benefits of having work ex in an institute like IIT K? Will they be in any better and advantageous position than a fresher in terms of priority, placement, etc?

SOP is a personilised stuff abanchii.
u can write anything in it as long as u can prove urself.
seldom do they predecide the entrance of a student based on SOP.
as i said yesterday, ur SOP is fine.

i can see a very big difference in ur SOP from yesterday
GOOD JOB.
but i still find certain information redundant.
the part where u go explaining about MBA (last but two para) is un-needed.
the reason im saying that is because u might be questioned on that during their interview.
the panel will have a different outlook towards marketing and they might cross-question u on that. because after all they know better about management that u do.
the last para is good.
thats ur best statement.
and regarding ur question on SOP, generally they expect it to be withing the specified limit.
most institutes give certain number of lines following the question.
if u exceed u will have to be writting in the blank spaces and that doesnt look good.
they go through the SOP and u can be questioned on that.
but there is no ground rule.
there has been instances where one panelist sits there reading ur SOP and the other questioning u on various things.
do post ur SOP if u make any further modifications

Thank you again for helping me out. I do understand the point you have made. I do agree with you the "job satisfaction" and "marketeing" thing. But what abt the Statements A and B (mensioned below) which were a part of my earlier SOP? Do you think that these are unnecessary? Or do I need to make these statements in a differerent manner in another part of my essay?
Statement A : For me MBA is not just a degree that is only beneficial for a person's career. A proper MBA will equip one to handle various situations in his personal and daily life.
Statement B : I believe that SJMSOM will be the best in providing me this knowledge since a student can choose from a wide range of electives and can pursue his career interests.
I have altered the above statements and mensioned thsese in a different part of my modified essay. The above two statements are underlined in my SOP below.
I believe that the main purpose of an SOP is to provide answers to two important questions which are why MBA and why this institute? Do you think my essay is correctly addressed and does it cover all the corners that it should? Do give necessary suggestions on how to improve my SOP and feel free to add or convey anything you like.

Performance is probably one of the most important aspects in life that a person thrives to attain, be it in any field of life; and I want to perform to the fullest of my abilities.
I have completed my four-year Bachelor of Technology program from Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata. I graduated in 2006 with a degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering. I would consider my punctuality and my determination as my strengths and I am also quick in learning from my mistakes.
Throughout my undergraduate career I have tried not to restrict my activities to those imposed by the syllabus. I have been an active member of the cultural committee of my college's annual intercollegiate festival "Eclecia" in the years 2004 and 2005. I took charge of making proper arrangements at the venue in our college, sequencing the programs and events, etc. I was also appointed as the class representative for more than a year in my college. I won the first prize in a computer gaming tournament named "Blitzkrieg" in the year 2004 in Kolkata. I was involved in organizing blood donation camps in our college and neighborhood and did give my blood on various occasions.
Being a human being, my first and foremost objective is to have a good set of moral values. My parents have always played an active part in my upbringing, which in term has shaped my character and I do believe I have learned positive qualities from my parents like honesty and respect. Next comes the priority of setting my career goals right. Having a technical background, I would very much like to do my MBA from a premier institute like SJMSOM and finally join an establishment where I will have the scope and freedom to show my skills, strengthen my team working proficiency, gain experience and become a successful manager. For me MBA is not just a degree that is only beneficial for a person's career; a proper MBA will equip one to handle various situations in his personal and daily life.
I am very interested in Telecom and Automotive sectors; if I have the opportunity I would really like to be a part of any of these fields and I think I will be able to perform my best possible.
IIT Bombay is one of the most premier and well-established institutions in India, which provides sound courses for both technical and management education. Every faculty of SJMSOM are pioneers in their own fields and the industrial interactions and the seminars that are held for the students are outstanding; this in itself provides a platform for excellence. SJMSOM students can choose from a wide range of electives according to their career interests, which I feel is really beneficial for a student. The institute also provides quality education with a low fee structure that is hard to find these days. In today's world mangers need to have diverse knowledge and they should also be aware of how the two different interact with each other to and how they can form a winning package. Being an engineer, doing MBA from IIT Bombay will be the most adept and beneficial for me since I believe that the MBA program of IIT Bombay will be able to couple my technical knowledge successfully with the managerial skills that will be taught which I think will be a winning package for me. This will be the solid base on which I can build a successful career. Also I do believe that SJMSOM will be able to hone my acquired skills and imbibe in me all the other important skill sets required to become an accomplished manager. Being a part of the IIT fraternity will be my honour and privilege.

its good in a way that u have told whatever is there in ur mind.
but it sounds more like ur talking hype rather than facts.
E.G. u have told that an MBA from IIT will help u hone ur technical knowledge and managerial skillls, but how?
what makes u think it will be that way?
i dont see any part where u have tried to put forth ur strength.
also, why IITB/how IITB will help u is lacking.
try to give any example of what u did in the cultural commitee.
any suggestions u brought, that will validate ur points.
u say u have learnt values from ur parents. what are those?
how do u think they influenced you.

basically everybody wld say things like these. and the folks who read ur SOP would be so used to these creamy things everybody throw at them.
u need to make ur SOP stand out. there has to be a few interesting things added.
they need to feel "ok this guy is just not all talk, he does know a few things"
i wld recommend u to go thru a couple of SOP in this thread and get an idea.
post it back, we will look into it

Thanks a lot pal for your help in guiding me in the right directions. I have tried to make the necessary changes in my SOP and I'm posting it below. Please feel free to comment on it.

And one more thing is that IIT Bombay has asked me to make it in only a single page, now my SOP is of about 750 words and has taken a full page, dose size matter in an SOP? Will they be going through the full SOP or pick out essential points during the interview?
