I want some views and suggestions. I am planning for a 2nd MBA very soon. I have just passed out from an Indian B school and am planning another MBA from top 10 global b schools.

Summary of my profile:

Btech Computer Science (2010)
MBA from IIT Kanpur (2012, Straight out of Btech)
12th: 84%
10%: 80%
GMAT: Yet to be taken

Work Ex: Zero prior to MBA
Would be joining one of the Big 4 Auditing firms as a consultant. Planning to work and gain experience and international experience before I start with my application process.

Extra curricular : This is one of the drawbacks in my profile. Nothing extra ordinary to boast about.
Involved in extra curricular activities like Placement Committee in both Btech and MBA. Organized festivals and wrote case studies during MBA program.

I am interested in Strategic Consulting (McK, BCG, Bain), PE and Investment Banking (in this order).

It would be great if people can give me suggestions on how to build a good profile in next 2-3 years so that I can apply in top US and global B schools for 2nd MBA.

What is the average post 1st MBA work ex do people have before they get admits from H/S/W/Yale/LSB/INSEAD etc?

Would additional certifications in my line of work will help me during my application process?

Joining bonus is not given by all the companies, only a handful of them give it. As far as i remember, only 3 companies offered joining bonus this year. Rest all didn't have the joining bonus in their component.
The average salary as quoted by us in the placement report will not be changed much even if no joining bonus is included...So dont worry about that while seeing the placement figures :)
The quantum of joining bonus varied from 1 to 2 Lakhs for 2012 placement session.

Variable pay can vary from 10% to 15% and sometimes even to 20% of basic salary. It totally depends on the company.

Again, as we mentioned in last post, we will not be able to comment on IIT M or any other B school's placement reports.

The package of IIT-M and IIT-K is almost same. but even the IIT-M says they do not consider bonus incentives in the package, as this is not the case with IIT-K... so where is the discrepancy.... as the companies coming in both the campuses are almost similar

It will be very difficult to comment on this as we dont know how the salary figures are calculated by IIT M. You should ask them. They will be able to give a better picture.

However, I can vouch for the fact that all the placement figures reported by IIT Kanpur are absolutely correct, even to the second decimal. It has been verified by our faculty placement coordinator also.

During the ppt given at IIT K campus just before the interview it had been told that for workex guys 75k per year of work ex will be considered while finalizing the package.. so whatever package mentioned in the placement report 2012 is it included? my second question is ..whether any joining bonus or incentive/variables are included in the avg package mentioned in the report?

1. For every year of relevant work ex, candidates get additional compensation. The amount varies company to company and year to year.
Yes the average salary mentioned in the placement report includes this component

2. Most of the companies give joining bonus to candidates. Most of them convert the bonus into the CTC component from next year. Yes, the average package includes the joining bonus as well.
