Hello Puys.
I'm giving a shot at GaTech Fall 2010...... and a cpl of other schools. GaTech's a fave since the IT-Ops program is strong, I've got folks nearby and rather affordable to moi (upper middle-class onlee, thank you) and hey, it's biz strong Atlanta!
Here's my profile, the bads come first:
2 yrs after graduation consumed in two futile attempts in the UPSC exams. Learned a lot though I guess.... no regrets.
GMAT: 660/800, 5.0/6.0. Maximum bummer!
Undergrad B.Tech: 69%, which ain't bad for my University... but not fantabuloustic either.
TOEFL: 110/120 How come I got only "Fair" in 2 of my speaking questions?! I kinda had a Jesuit school groomed clipped Anglo-American Angrezi since kindergarten. You know, they say this "fair" score thingie will shoot down TAship chances!
Extra Curricular: Good - Quite a few prizes in Quizzes in a "career" spanning 12 yrs. Some of them in state regional and national level. No, I never got into BBC Mastermind/KBC... 3 yrs in NCC with a couple of silver strpes too (if this counts at all!).
Work Exp: 4 yrs (by July '10) in Instrumentation & Control and little bit of Telecommunications and some serious Electrical switcgear: 2 Yrs in Power Plants and 2 yrs in Desalination Plants, District Cooling all over the Middle East. Not MUCH of first hand field experience.... more into site survey, feasibiliy studies, solutions, legwork, detailed design, proposals, documentation, price negotiations, testing & commissioning and handover.
Anyone review the profile and comment on my chances? Maybe those current students who now lurk the GaTech threads? Pretty please?
I know it ain't that good... even compared to so many puys here: main reason I won't even app to Haas, UNC-KF and Anderson.
PS: Are we expected to show some kinda proof of all these claims of extra-curricular achievements? I'm abroad now and some of my certificates are locked up in an iron trunk in my attic or something; nobody gives a fig for all that in my present job/job market. Gotta get my folks to decontaminate the certificates and iron them stiff just in case....
