MAT dates announced. Paper pencil format still more popular
by Astha A in MAT 2012, announcement on 24 July '12

The All India Management Association (AIMA) has announced the dates for the September chapter of Management Aptitude Test (MAT). While the paper pencil test will be conducted on September 2, 2012, the computer based test will be conducted from September 8, 2012 onwards. Surprisingly, only 10% of the registrations so far are for the computer based testing pattern, Wg Cdr VS Bejoy, Director, Centre of Management Studies (CMS) told PaGaLGuY.

During an earlier conversation, a spokesperson from AIMA had shared that since MAT caters mostly to the two-tier colleges, most candidates are more comfortable with the paper pencil format. "We need to make sure that all applicant have accessibility and the skills to attempt a computer based test before we think of completely switching over from the paper pencil format," the spokesperson had said.

The online registrations for candidates who wish to appear for the September version of the MAT exam have already started and will be open upto August 13, 2012. The number of days over which the computer based test is conducted will depend upon the final number of registrations. If the number of candidates who register for the online test are limited, they may be accomodated on the same date i.e September 8, 2012.

In addition, if the online regstrations are few, those who have opted for it will have to appear for the paper pencil test on September 2, 2012. However, they will be informed of such a happening well in advance. A list of the test centre cities is also provided to the candidates when they register.

Wg Cdr Bejoy also shared that the September 2012 MAT version will not see any changes in the paper pattern. The two and a half hour long exam will be a 200 mark paper divided into five sections including reading comprehension, data interpretation and quantitative aptitutde.

    • royrvdpr723 @kooljais One can never predict specific scores for afmission to the colleges under the SYMBI umbrella. However you can get a rough idea to check the threshold level of scores needed in general circumstances here:- http://www.pagalguy.com/news/snap-2011-analysis-probable-cut-offs-a-22610

Further, any queries you can post @ http://www.pagalguy.com/forums/xat-snap-iift-and-others/official-snap-2012-discus-t-84314/p-3594585/r-3704838

    • royrvdpr723 @gauravkrsinha No sectional cut-offs in MAT. And the GK score is not even accounted for while calculating the final %ile. Although scoring very low in that section would be inappropriate as some colleges do have a thorough review system of distribution of marks (scored) in each section. ATB!

    • royrvdpr723 @paruuuu certainly. But my personal preference of MAT exams would be in the following order:-
      1. Dec MAT
      2. Feb MAT
      3. Sept MAT
      4. May MAT

So do some research on which colleges accept the scores of which months' MAT (generally most colleges prefer Dec and Feb MAT scores.

Coming back to your question, there are some good institutes which accept MAT scores:-
Christ, SIESCOMS, JIMS-Rohini and others. Do cross-check to varify if they are accepting Sept MAT scores though.
