This takes the total number of operational IIMs to 13. The government had in 2008 announced six new IIMs, of which the ones at Ranchi, Rohtak, Raipur and Trichy are already operational. With IIM Udaipur and Kahipur rolling, the government has fully implemented its expansion plans of the state-owned business school franchise.

pulkit745 What goes on in the HRD's beaurocrats mind when they decide upon these tier 4 and tier 5 cities as the preferred locations for new IIMs? Does having an IIM generates too many jobs or improves the GDP or poverty of the city? Then why do they outrightly deny these new IIMs access to corporate and industry interaction, make externeal faculty visits difficult and make students development a joke!!! Kashipur is a 2 km by 1.5 km establishment and the IIM is a good few kilometers away from kashipur. Look at how shillong struggles with its placements every year. The director gave an interview in which he expressed his interest in conducting placements though IIMC. Did north east people get reservation in IIM Shillong? Not even a single person in the batch belongs to shillong. Then how does it help openeing an national business school in the rarest outskirts of the country. After all its a Bschool and not an environmental studies university. IIM Indore's batch size has increased to 450 last year. They will face challanges in meeting every student's expectations in terms of faculty , facility and placements. To top that they have been given the job of mentoring two new IIMs. Why is IIM A sitting idle? Why wasnt it given the responsibility to set up IIM Udaipur? All it seems that the beaurocrats are doing there job as directed. They do not care if construction of new IIMs actually helps the students and the country in general. Its the same old story of non-indulgence where not impacted.#87 • 07 Apr '11 Like -

nikeshmahajan @sharingan- if you have poor acads, don't waste more years on cat , just lik i did . @anup - yeah , this is my last application for MBA to an IIM ..
#92 • 08 Apr '11 Like -
rayman @nikeshmahajan: If you've got 99.59 in CAT 2010 then you will get a call from IIM C, unless you have sectionals below 93.3X irrespective of your acads. I have horrible acads and have 99.59 + IIM C call.#93 • 08 Apr '11 Like -

hantan pulkit, very well put
share exactly the same thoughts.. maybe the HRD may have had someone who owns land in these cities. and after the decision was armtwisted in that favor, land prices would ve shot up and they would make a killing!! but still they could ve done that with some city near civilization at least
