IIM Indore introduces PGP course in Mumbai
by Lajwanti D'Souza in IIM Indore, PGP, Mumbai on 25 July '12

The Indian Institute of Management Indore is all set to introduce a Post Graduate Programme (PGP) in Mumbai from this year. This development comes close on the heels of IIM Kozhikode and IIM Trichy launching new campuses to cater to its executive MBA student base.
According to Mr Akhtar Parvez, who is the Librarian as well as the PRO of IIMI, the move to start a course in Mumbai is in keeping with the institute's expansion plans. The course will however be non-residential, which makes it the first of its kind among all the IIMs (a two-year full time residential course with a PGDM degree awarded at the end of the programme).
It is also the first time that an IIM is running a full time PGP in the financial city of Mumbai. The two-year programme which will span over six terms in Mumbai would be similar to that of PGP at IIM-I. One or two terms may also be held at the IIMI campus."Faculty from IIM Indore as well industry experts from across the world will be faculty for the course, added to Mr Parvez.
More details on the course, which is expected to start on September 28, can be got from the IIMI website . Interested applicants will have to undergo a written aptitude test (on August 30-31, 2012) and personal interview if their names are among those shortlisted.
Classes for this course will be held at the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI), CBD Belapur which is a few kilometres from the main city of Mumbai.
The first batch will constitute just 75 students this year. According to the notification, CAT or GMAT scrore will be accepted. The course fee will be Rs 7.5 lakh per year.
Starting this September, this course will begin classes later than other PGP course. However, IIMI has decided to match up its schedule with the IIMI course at the Indore campus so that examinations and placements etc can be held at the same time at both the places.
Currently, IIMI has decided to take on a few classrooms at the ICSI buiding. Over time, it may take on more space depending on the response to the course.

    • VijayRawat 15 Lakhs, on top of that we have to rent place to live in a super costly city like Mumbai as there is no hostel facility...in total we can expect 20 lakhs or more...what are they thinking? We have money plants growing in our porch...and there is no info about placements, first batch in Mumbai, already have a campus in UAE, no full placements in Indore campus itself...oh my god...what an impractical decision of opening such campus. Super riches will find this appealing, not anyone else.

    • catterpiller What is going on here..
The most pathetic situation ever. Why are they offering a PGDM degree, same as regular IIM-I degree. I am finding it absolutely hard to believe that IIM-I is doing some jokes using the brand IIM. In a few years IIM-I Bombay campus will have a strength of 500 and 800 in IIM-I main campus. Imagine every second IIM ian is an IIM-I guy and worse, every 5th MBA guy is from IIM. IIM-I I dint know IIM-I is so desperate for money... IIM-I guys revolt yar....

I support you my friend.. These IIMI guys are playing with our lives.. The ultimate aim of these guys is to fool people and make money. They say the avg package is 13L or more, but in reality it is around 10L that too excluding last 10% of the batch who are either not placed or get package of around 6L. IIMI is spoiling the brand IIM, bloody hell.

    • Psychamour @cricaddict Although the process being followed is same, the candidate pool is different because of different selectn criteria. For Mum campus they have relaxed the cutoff to 90%ile overall. There can be many candidates in this bracket who possess better communication skills than the ones who have already faced the selection procedure for IIM-I. So it makes sense to conduct the whole selection procedure again as this would put the earlier selected candidates, who most probabaly have >99%ile, in competition with 90-99%ile scorers.

    • monuaspire4 getting gmat applicant in pool, relaxing cut off to 90 % and campus in mumbai provide intuitions of course focused on more experienced pool of students. if you go through profiles tier 2 and 3 mba college placement record , you will know that getting placement in mumbai is compratevily easy than indore. Withh IIM brand they could do wonders. But at the end of day its iim indore. God knows only, what is in their mind. Worth trying but remain skeptical upto admission

    • Sujatha19 My son has become the victim of the PGP course of IIMI at Mumbai...they started the course on October 8th and there is no sufficient time to cover the 1st sem syllabus...so they finished the sem like crash course which is difficult for the freshers to follow ...and also there is no support from IIMI for summer internships...and banks also refused to give education loan without security to IIMI Mumbai Campus branch ...all these reasons made my son to drop from the PGP course after his 1st sem who resigned from TCS and joined IIMI Mumbai campus...(all this at the cost of 4.5 lacs and software job in TCS)...

    • Sujatha19 @BallsOfSteel Those who have experience and with commerce background have managed to some extent and some are continuing as they paid 2nd term fee also...
yes... still summer internships are not yet finalized it seems ...

    • pradyothcjohn @Sujatha19 I am a student at IIM I Mumbai campus. I don't know ANYONE who resigned from TCS and dropped out. 2 people dropped out as they had more that 8 deficit credit points.
As for summer internships, true, not everyone has got internships yet.. but guess who all are visiting campus this week? Cadbury, Ferrero Rocher, Godrej, Marico, Kaya etc. Students have already got internships in HSBC, Bajaj, BPCL, Mahindra, TATA Steel, Futures First, NCDeX etc.

    • mknits @pradyothcjohn What about placements? Is IIMI willing to help? Can we get education loan without security?
      #85 • 29 Mar Like
    • pradyothcjohn @mknits Final placements for the current batch will be integrated with that of the main campus. Placement assistance can be expected from the main campus for subsequent batches as well. Most of the students in our batch got loans without security, but some of them were sanctioned loans of only 8lakhs.
