Campus Life at Tata Institute of Social Sciences

Life at TISS is lots of fun! A campus where minds from diverse backgrounds interact on many an issue - future Social Workers, budding HR Managers, tomorrow's Health Administrators, they are all there in the TISS campus debating or discussing various angles to a problem. One is always apprised of more than one perspective to a subject.

A campus which is probably the largest amongst all the Management schools in Mumbai, is forever buzzing with activities. Sounds of the Guitar and the Flute 'jugalbandi' from some corner of the campus, singing of the Birthday Song at midnight from the Dinning Hall, practices of 'Mohalla bolta hai' or 'Pehel' (theatre groups in the campus) in the Main Lounge or presentation slides being prepared in the hostel lounge - this campus stays alive well past midnight!

The HRM & LR students are amongst the most enthusiastic participants in any event that takes place across the campus, be it the Meghamundra to welcome the rains or the various festivals celebrated across the year ranging from Janmashthami, Onam, Durga Puja and Christmas. They also take part in various B-Schools fests.

The greenery on campus simply takes your heart away. The ambiance of the college will play its charm on you. Adding to the fun are regular co-curricular activities that keep happening in the college - prom nights, theme parties, street plays, cultural fest - IT ALL HAPPENS HERE. Saturday night movie screenings and Sunday morning breakfast is something you would rather not miss (even if it means returning to your cozy bed after the breakfast is over).

Life rocks at TISS campus and why wouldn't it when have you so much to do!!!

Cheers to TISS 😃

ok guys just to get you started about why i feel this is THE place to be :

1. amazing campus , we have two campuses ( old & new) and the kinda campus we have in this city of bombay is unimaginable...the moment u enter the campus u will feel like you are someplace outta bombay...totally serene and pure.

2. the old campus is common for all the courses including HRM & LR. we have some classes here and some classes in new campus.
3. FYI campus is like a stone's throw from RAJ KAPOOR's mansion !!! :new_shocked: and yes his wife still resides there...so there are times when we bump into celebrities...:nono:

well wanna share this pic of our 500 seater state of the art convention centre...u gotta see it to believe its overwhelming stature...:wink1:

Yes dont worry about the lectures. we do have stressfull days because we have a 7 day week schedule. no weekends no holidays...but because of this the load gets distributed on all the 7 days hence a relatively medium load all days. profs are very cool...there are more like friends than profs...they cant get cooler than the profs at TISS...

about timings usually we have classes from 9am to 6pm. sometimes till 8pm also...thats cuz we have flexi timings...nothing is fixed...the classes get fixed and cancelled in a jiffy.

well guys since 'manthan' our annual fest just got over i thought ill post some pics here...just got time to post this one pic.

Captain Gopinath (Air Deccan) addressing us ,

hey seniors,
apparently some of the students were not provided the hostel facility last year & they had to look out for rented accomodation. is it true? i believe this is a residential course. did tiss help them in getting rooms?
another doubt...
i think there is going to be a decrease in number of seats (hrm course)? is it true?
thanks in advance.

Hi Euphoric , yes some students from my batch didnt get hostel because the batch size was increased to 65 and the hostels were not competent to accomodate all. nevertheless the college admin. as well as our seniors helped us a lot in getting affordable and pretty nice accomodation in and around TISS. but considering the tution fees of TISS for the entire course also doesnt sum upto 1 lakh!!! (beat that) , i think we dont really care about hostel or rented apartments. on a personal level most of us preferred rented flats close to TISS. it offers to us great freedom which the hostels and the campus would not!!!

anyways yes its also true that ur batch size is reduced. back from 65 to 53 now. 12 seats got the axe!!

thanks for the information. tiss really is a dream destination.

Aaaha .. a post about life @ TISS ... my partners in crime have already set the mood ... lemme throw in my two cents ... so mornings start with us barely making the 9 am breakfast deadline at the DH .. then classes take most of our day.. break for lunch at 1 .. we hit baddy/TT court in the eve and play on till dinner .. after which we hang out in the campus working on presentations or projects or timepass .. sometimes plans crop up late in the night and we head out to the city (mumbai never sleeps!!) we make in back in time before daybreak and hit the sack ... and then that bring us back to almost missing the 9am breakfast deadline !!!

Then there are variations .... and variations galore!! The day ends at 8pm sometimes .. days in a row .. the nights too are spent working on presentations..projects .. assignments .. but then the 9am breakfast deadline is met each day :yell:!!

This is a meltingpot of cultures, ideologies, thoughts, opinions and interests. The sheer experience of the campus life outside the classrooms is something outta this world!! The college has so much to offer .. only you are the limit.

Have any specific questions for us .. anything under the sun?? shoot right away.. :2gunfire:

Speaking about the "non-HR" stuff on campus, we have started out this year with :

  1. Film Club which screens a movie every Thursday
  2. Jalsaghar- The Audio Club, where songs are played on a unique theme
  3. MCSC Movie/Play Screenings
  4. SFT-TISS Chapter

and so on so forth...so while my more athletic buddies are playing TT/Baddy, I am slogging my a!@# to run the above mentioned clubs with students from other courses....this way, you get to interact and learn with students from other courses to the maximum...

Shall soon post stuff on our faculty....

Someone asked whether its hectic or not....

Lemme ask one thing..is it hectic eating ice cream 24 hours a day with breaks in between....no naa ??

So, if you enjoy learning ( post grad course ), then you shall not find a single day hectic....its 2.57 am now....shall sleep soon...and need to get up at 6 am, to reach campus at 9 am...!!!

So, ciao.....

hey guys...gotta run for a presentation (IR practices in nordic countries!!)...but have just enough time for this one post, actually id rather post here than have another dry run of the ppt.

hmm...ok guys got a pic of our convocation hall in the new campus...i really believe this is definitely the best auditorium across all other b-schools... clear the written and get ur gdpi calls, i promise i will be your tour guide for the TISS campus tour!

the old building and d new one are in the same campus .....deonar...??? or sme other place ??

hi priyanka , its not old building and new building ... its called old campus and new campus. rather TISS campus and new campus.

both are together dont worry in the same area...they are connected by "deonar farm road" (a very very posh locality). the two campuses are about 100 metres apart.

for example the pic below is the road connecting the two campuses...here look at the pic u will find a white car parked to the left of the road...right after that car a few metres ahead is the entrance to our new campus...

Well priyanka we do have 7 days week but that means uniform distribution of work over 7 days which was supposed to be distributed over 5 days. typically sundays we have just 4 hours of classes..sometimes we do have a sunday off but that would lead to us having to compensate for it the next sunday. but thats ok...we have more than enough time for ourselves. dont worry about that. thats the advantage of having a batch of 60 ppl..everyone is close to u..a very close knit batch. u can rely and depend on anyone for anything. and well well about family?? hello!!! we are already away from home (unless u are a localite in bombay). u are forgetting here 2 days in a week we have field work at various organizations (no classes on mondays and tuesdays)...so during these two days the localites have time for their family...happy ? :gunsmilie:

anyways..for your eyes only.. the lovely entrance to the new campus...this is the road from the new campus gate towards the inside of the new campus.....

no weekends no holidays :shock::shock::shock::shock::shock:!!!

Hi

I am assuming you're a Mumbaikar like me...

Well, although we have the chance to stay at home, believe me you shall have very little time for family and friends...this is not to scare you off, but is a reality..

The only time I get to spend with my parents is on Monday and Tuesday nights when we have our field work..those two days, we get back home around 6 pm...rest all days, its after 12 at night...!!!

So, be as informed as possible before you make a decision...

Cheers

Hey puys

Now I want to talk about something which I am personally very proud of...and that is the DIVERSITY on the campus, esp GENDER DIVERSITY...

I am sure we are one among the top schools which has a diverse crowd in terms of gender...in our batch, we have 34 guys and 31 gals...a typical B School may have max 20-30 girls in a batch of 120..!!

Now, you may think Im just joking but believe me, there are so many awsome advantages of a diverse batch....you shall listen to perspectives which you have never ever thought of, and believe me it widens your perspective by tons..!!
I remember this train journey I had where I debated with the gals from my batch on feminism the whole night ( we were on the garib rath, chair car..!!!), and its really great to listen to such insights, and I dont think there shall be any better place in our country if you want to broaden your perspective.

Also, it is a very enriching experience, and the parties become more "vibrant"...ask AJ..!!!

Apart from gender, we have people here coming from all possible races, castes, sects and religions....you have to see it to believe it...
e.g I have friends right from Brazil to Nigeria to Nepal to Burma....( mates studying in the globalization course )

Just imagine the cultural exchanges and the info you get on campus, even the IIM's cant beat us in that aspect....

Shall post more soon..need to pen a reaction paper now....

Cheers
