Hello Puys,

I just thought of putting across some topics on which we all can have a debate, thus helping us understand those subjects better. It is not the CAT GD/PI or CET GD/PI but it is general.

Every 4-6 days, one topic will be posted and members are meant to write 'in favor of' or 'against' according to the previous post.

eg. If person A writes the 1st post 'in favor of' then the 2nd post has to be 'against'

All Puys are warmly invited!

Topic:

Is Class X the right age for students to be counselled by schools about career choices?

Let me start

Against: No, students should not be counselled at such an age. A class X student is about 15-16 years and his/her mind is very easy to manipulate since he/she has not seen much of the world outside the school. I have seen many parents forcing/manipulating their child's mind to select a career which they prefer.

Topic:

Is Class X the right age for students to be counselled by schools about career choices?

FOR
As a matter of fact I believe yes class Xth is the right age as from XIth one chooses stream, A Science stream student can go into Commerce or Art later but not vice versa, hence it would be better if one makes choices in Xth.Also with colleges turning high on academic and marks centric, one should be ready to perform in 10th and 12th for whatever they wanna pursue. I still regret my 10th and 12th marks can hinder my iim dream.....

One more point I would like to make the decision should be students and not his/her parents.... It should be self thought and not pressurized upon.
Also somehow people should be ready to accept the fact that their career choice may not be vocational like engg, doctor etc, so parents might not be ready to accept.......
Against:

The subjects one learns in his primitive years are not the ones that a student builds a career upon. Schooling is the 1st step in which a child develops his/her basic skills. On the basis of that a child can select the stream according to his liking and marks that he/she scores in the exams but it is only later when one studies the subject in more depth that he/she can decide on an appropriate career. Hence school should not counsel.
for
Indian Education System demands one too think before its too late and is not flexible. There are age limits and problems when one goes for higher education. One cannot join Army after certain age limit. Similarly many professions demand proper career planning and Xth is the right age when one has to choose before its too late

FOR-
well, the competition has penetrated into every aspect of life. Education has gone many steps further. The things we do in the college students now do it in the schools only. So by the time they reach their 10th class i think they shud be able to decide which stream they wanna go in according to their strengths.

Hello Puys,

Every 4-6 days, one topic will be posted and members are meant to write 'in favor of' or 'against' according to the previous post.

Nice initiative but 4-6 days are too much for a single topic.. 1 day or at max 2 days are enuf to discuss a topic.

Mate, you have to post 'Against' since the previous post is 'in favour of'

Now the next poster must post 'Against'

Ok guys,today's topic:

Is the Indian Premier League more lucrative to Indian cricketers than International matches?

FOR:
They find it more lucrative... simple reason a lot of money at stake... exceptions are there... but most of the younger generations take up cricket cz there is lot of money involved in it... Making it to the top 15 is extremely difficult and the cricketers tend to take shortcut by preparing for IPL... this format has destroyed the real core of the game... recent performance in Tests have showed what class the youngsters have in tests... even if you cant make it into the team at least getting selected for the reserve will fetch you mim 8lakh pa..

Against:

Take cricketers like Kohli or Yuvraj who would give their best in International matches. In fact even Tendulkar. When India won the World Cup, the tears in the eyes of those players said it all.
Indian Govt. on austerity drive but what about the President?

As per the recent reports, her trips cost exchequer a staggering Rs. 205 cr.

What is going on Mrs. President?
Hello Puys,

I just thought of putting across some topics on which we all can have a debate, thus helping us understand those subjects better. It is not the CAT GD/PI or CET GD/PI but it is general.

Nice initiative. Hopefully more puys preparing for GDs and interviews will be active on this thread.

Will try and contribute soon.

ps: Wondering whether a person could post for/against not depending on the previous post.
Against:
Queen of Denmark travels by Train

The Prime Minister of UK Mr.Cameroon travels by Train.

Our President, who has far less functions than the Prime Minister, visits countries with an entourage of 99 staff members that includes 6 chefs, 3 butlers, 4 family members and someone called Photographic Officer (now what is that?:sneaky:) and she travels by a 747-400 plane.

However our Govt. has spent about Rs.700 cr on buying 5 special aircraft from Embraer (Embraer) for the VVIPs of the country. What for if you want to travel with 99 people on an 747-400?

When India is marred by inflation, interest rates are soaring and a weakening rupee, why spend Rs.205 cr on foreign trips and why take 99 staff members with you?

Shameful

Sad to see that very few are interested. I thought it was a good initiative as we will go in depth of problems and come out with constructive solutions. 😞

I dont think so

@Neel This is quite a good initiative,(thanks for it) people would be interested but not in every topic nor they would be able to reply on the same day. I believe u need to add these flexibility by creating different thread for different topic

Thanks, appreciate it. What my intention was that if I don't like certain topic, such debates would force me into learning about those topics which in turn enhances my knowledge and awareness.

Different threads? Wouldn't that turn on the similar lines as "spamming"? (I know it isn't but might not look good if I come out with topics every few days) Its just an opinion. We might try doing it as well. I would need support of a few puys so we can make this a better topic.

Kind Regards
