Could you give a general idea about your batch profile. And also the most attractive thing (dazzling) in each profile that made the final admission possible ?

Can confirm that XLRI only accepts GMAT scores which are not more than 2 years old.
Also can you throw some light on the placement for the 2009 batch.

Thanks for starting this thread. Some queries
1. When does the placement season ends and how have been the placements, if any till now. Is there a link that I could go to.
2. The xlri site still has forms for 2010 batch. I saw that there were two links for application forms. One if for NRI and one for others. Do you know why a difference?
3. International exposure - Do all students go through this or only few? Who pays for this experience.
4. Form submission - I see that it is a word document from last year. So we have to print it and mail? Can we attach GMAT scorecard along or it needs to be sent from mba.com

The batch is infact highly diverse including IT and consulting ,doctors, architects, BFSI, armed forces, enterprenuers, Manufacturing, PSUs. Non IT consists of around 40% of the batch which is better than many of our peer MBA programmes in India. The exact details will be posted soon. The average workex is 7.5 years with around 3.5 years as average international workex for more than 30 students.

Please let me know if you want to know anything specific.

The placement of last years batch 2008-09 was affected by the downturn/slowdown as was with all MBA programmes across India but we were able to place almost everyone till the last count came a few days back(yes it took a lot of effort and the placements had to be done on an extended basis).
This year the placecom has been built with innovation , lessons of last year and higher effort quotient as the backdrop.Things are looking up, the accenture tie up news(in the recent news articles) being one of them. we are confident to do far better than last year and I believe we are far well prepared on the resources and the mental front, last year actually the placecom was caught a bit unaware due to the slump, but this time we are confident the script is going to be far different and far better.

Will answer all questions above objectively when I circle back into PG tomorrow.

i gave my gmat in nov,2007 . is my gmat valid for this years' app ?

Hi,
Is 5 yrs of experience is mandatory as a manager, or one needs to have overall experience of 5+ yrs.

I'm a project lead with 8+ expr in major telecom software organization, handling a team but not as manager only in technical areas.

My profile.
GMAT=710(Q48,V39, AWA Awaiting)
B.E(E&C;)=Average(CGPA of 2.5/4.0).
12th=Average.
Extra-Curricular=Few Accolades in Olympiads in schools and paper presentation in college. Liitle accolades in Sports. No NGO work expr. but donated for Parikrma(Bangalore based ngo foundation)

Looking at my profile what is the possibility of getting into this program.

Looking forward !

Thanx

Hi Ponds_ggn,
XLRI is not very strict on 5 years of MANAGERIAL Experience, so for example if a person has 6 years of experience and 2 years of managerial experience then he/she is elgible to apply to XLRI. Your profile looks good and you have a decent chance to get in XLRI for the GMP programme.

Thanks

I have 6 years of exp, completely in a development role in a prod dev company, and no managerial experience. And a GMAT of 720.
What are my chances ?

How much internation work ex? What is the median GMAT score of XLRI, Whats your score in X, XII and college, how many EC's? How much hours do you spend on EC's in a month? How confident are you about your goals and recommendations on a scale of 10. Do you work in IT?

Hi Waiwai,
You have a good GMAT score and I would suggest you to definately apply. Are you an international applicant? I think XLRI understands that most of the IT people from US are generallly consultants. There are people in our batch who were working as a project lead and some consultants from US.I dont think lack of managerial expeirence will work against you.

Hello 'waiwai',

XLRI is not very strict on 5 years of Managerial Experience, but said that, you would surely be tested for those qualities during your admission process, based on your interviews and essays.

All the best!

Hi Kaushik,

I am planning to apply for the XLRI GMP programme for the 2010-11 season. I had a few queries, but before that my brief profile:

1) WorkEx almost 6 years as of August 2009 in a Leading IT consulting firm
2) International Experience 1.5 years at various locations of UK and canada
3) GMAT scores 700 (in both first and secind attempts). Last one give yesterday.
4) Engg : 73.7 %
5)XIIth : 70.8 %
6) Xth : 78 %
7) Extracurrics: SO-SO

I have the following queries:

1) When will the admission process begin for the 2010-11 session
2) What are my chances with the above profile
3) During the GMAT I have selected XLRI as one of the 5 colleges where Pearson Vue will send across my GMAT scores. Can I expect a call from the adcomm once they receive the scores, or I have to apply first ?

Sorry, I can't help but ask, are you by any chance from TCS Kolkata, BIPL Bldg ??

Hi,

Thanks for taking the initiative of helping us in resolving the queries. I have one following query regarding which i need your help:

I will have 4.7 years of experience by March 2010 out of which 2 years would be of lead profile. As per the eligibility criteria, the XLRI requires the candidate to have minimum of 5 years experience.

Would the admission committee consider my application based on the information mentioned above.

Request you to answer the query so that i can identify the number of colleges that i should apply to.

Thanks in advance,
cbhan.

Hi,

I will be having 4 years of work experience in IT by may 2010 end...So I complete 5 years of work experience only by may 2011. But Going by the minimum criteria for GMP, If Im correct I shud be having 5 years of exp by march (2011) itself. Does it mean I become eligible for GMP only in 2012.......
In this scenario, considering tht the avg workex is 7.5 for GMP wud it be prudent for me to target the flagship BM programme in the next 2years or wait for 3-4 more years and target GMP(when i will be having a comfortable 7 years)....

At the bottomline , my dilemma is wid 4 years of exp and with me becoming eligible only in 2012 for GMP wud it be ideal to go 4 BM even with 4 -5 yrs of workex or wud it be too much of exp for BM prog tht I better focus on GMP

Please advise me

Thanks,
Techno Freak

Hi Techno Freak,
You are correct in saying that XLRI will shortlist only those students who have 5 years of workex and in some cases it might relax 1 or 2 months.

Now on your question on whether you should join GMP or BM, I can just give you some thoughts but not advise.

(1) There are people in BM too who have 4-5 years work ex , but they are very few in number.
(2) The Advantage in GMP programme is the class room discussion. People have so much to contribute in our classes, that its always interactive. There can be no lecture in GMP where there is a monologue.
(3) BM programme have mostly people having 1-2 years work ex or mostly freshers. They have an advantage that they have 2 years to figure out about things. They have more time to switch their careers.

I hope this helps.

Hi Cbhan,

I am not very sure about it. But my gut feeling says that it would be difficult for you to get shortlisted.
