Hi,

I just joined PG, after being anonymous user, reading all the threads. I am planning to give my GMAT in June, 2009. I havent decided on the date yet. But, it would be in last week of june.

Regarding my preparation, I completed 80% of kaplan premier. I have to take CAT tests on CD and complete sentence correction in the book.

I started preparing for GMAT since last week of february and has been spending considerable amount of time every day, preparing for it.
For now, i am not planning to join any classes. I am just browsing through net for good counselling regarding GMAT and PG has been very valuable. Once i feel coaching from a particular institute is worth taking, then i would contemplate on taking it.
Quant is my strong area and verbal, i am fine with CR and need a bit of practice of RCs. I am not confident of SCs.
For now, i dont have concrete-to-do-books. As soon as i am done with kaplan premier(will be done by tomm.), i will start with Manhattan, followed by OG. Weekends, i am spending on writing CATs.
I am from Hyderabad 😃

Dear fierymustang,

Here is a rough overview of my general approach for GMAT:

1.) Buy OGs (old and, in April, new) since these have official questions and this is important for verbal problems since finding non-subjective verbal questions that resemble the real thing seems to me to be so hard.

2.) Download free test @ MBA.com and work any other free test I can find (I Googled free GMAT test and found about 5 from all the major test prep companies).

3.) Keep a detailed log of all the problems I miss and then--after understanding why I missed them--work them over and over until I do not make the mistake again.

Thoughts???

well about gmat prep, the usual books princeton, kaplan, og & manhattan
I am 'more' weak in verbal than quant.
finish these and get comfortable quickly so I can get into tests, hopefully a lot of them. Because, 4 hours of exam time at a stretch is long time.

About work ex, I will be almost 5 years (all in IT) experienced by the time I join :)
I live/work in BTM II Stage.

How about you ?

Good one, but it seems tht u r vry good in both Quant and Verbal. Well, if not, jst try Kaplan premier and SC from manhuttan.

Are u doing or planning for any coaching ? when r u planning to write ur GMAT ?

Hi Arun,

I havent completed kaplan still, as i was away from preparation for last two days due to some work. Anyway, with what did u start your preparation?
I am planning to done-away with kapaln by tommorow and start manhattan. With the pace with which my preparation is going-on, i am planning to prepone my test to first week of june. Let me see,
But, the major point to worry is, i still make those silly mistakes in Quant, prompting me to be careful when dealing with that section. or is it the same feeling, all the test-takers go through, as it is just basic mathematics? :-P.
Do you know the exact dates, when the new edition of OG is going to be released?

I had a talk with one of publisher's person and it seems tht 12th edition should be available in stores by April end. exact date is not known.
I have started with Verbal (some basic idea) and probably by tomorrow i'll start MR-SC.
As fas as ur quant problem is concerned, it usually happens when we try to do it fast. I think, u should do them without thinking at time, once u start doing it correctly then switch to timed mode.
r u confertable with Verbal now ?
PS: u don't need to put my name here....

Count me too!!

Hi Puys,
I am planning to give GMAT in the last week of June.
Preparation:
Taking the Verbal first & then Quant. From the discussions on PG, Manhattan SC is the best for SC preparation. I too used it for CAT 08. regd. RC & CR , I think the usual OG, Kaplan etc will do.( not checked out yet). But online practice tests are utmost imp.
btw
@agrawal2905
good initiative
@chaku82
Whats the diff. btw Kaplan Premier & Kaplan 800?

Lets discuss & get updated on preparation..........

guys iam also planning for gmat in june havent started my prep yet ,need to know exact order in which i should go through books . Should i start with Kaplan first or OG?
Please suggest

PS:Quant is strong point

Hi, I am planning to take GMAT in last week of June, 09. I've heard ppl saying quant in actual GMAT is not as difficult as the quant questions in Kaplan. Is this true? I have started with OG, Verbal review and quant review. Any pointers to online material would help .. ..

Thx
