HiI have 7+ years of IT experience and good academics and extra curricullum activities, both at school/college as well as in my firm. But I am on maternity leave since August 2012 and thinking about not joining back. I was just wondering if this would have a negative impact on my profile. Is it necessary to be working at the time when you take your gmat and apply at ISB? Are people on sabbatical even considered? Thanks
Winks,

It is not mandatory that you should be working at the time of applying. The only condition is that at the time of applying you must have at least 2 years of full time work experience to be offered a seat in the batch.

There would be no negative impact.

@abhishek4563 First off - I am presuming you are talking about landing yourself into an MBA program. With a few lines on your achievements it is much too hard to determine where you will actually land up...If you understand the MBA admissions process better you would know that one's profile is only part of several other data points to determine the success of a BSchool applicant. The problem is this - if I told you that you would not make the cut anywhere - would you give up from still trying? I don't think so So why even ask for people's opinions when in all probability you will end up with biased feedback.

That being said - going by what you have put down - you seem to have a profile that BSchools would be happy looking at and even considering provided you hit the right notes in your application.

Send me a PM with school specific questions and I'd be glad to help.

@mrsherlock1 The basic requirement of the incoming class is that you have between 10 to 25 years of managerial experience. Given your total work experience amounts to just 11.5 years you in all probability face an uphill task in making the cut at this point in time. Please have a look at the class profile.

I am posting a few statistics below:

Work Experience
Median Work Experience 16 years
Average Work Experience 17 years
Mid 80% work Experience range 12-24 years

I would go as far as saying that you should think about applying to the full-time MBA program, if the format suits you. Almost the entire class in the PGPMax come with full-time jobs sponsored most often than not by the companies. The individuals go back to their previous jobs/higher roles in the same company. Please also research the structure of the program. Participants will typically be on campus for a 7 day schedule of classroom learning once every 6th week.

Send me a PM once you are sure which format and program suits you best.

I am interested in applying to the PGPMAX programme at ISB. I may not have the profile of a typical applicant and so have a lot of questions about my chances of getting in and opportunities after completing PGPMAX as they don't offer career services for PGPMAX. Here are the basics:

- A total of 11.5 years of work experience.
- B.E. (Production Engineering) from a mediocre institute in India.
- 2 years of work experience in one of India's top petroleum and petrochemicals conglomerates after B.E.
- M.S. (Computer Information Systems) from an average US university.
8 years of work experience in a US company (SME) that I joined in it's start-up phase. Managed the IT operations for this company and helped it grow its turnover to the tune of US$ 40 million. During the last couple of years I was working as VP of Engineering.
- 1.5 years in India as Director of the Indian subsidiary (software development center) of the same US company. Involved in setting up it's operations from ground up.

I have gathered good experience in various aspects of business from statutory and legal compliance (FEMA, RBI, transfer pricing), hiring/talent acquisition to onshore/offshore coordination and project management to audit compliance, etc.

I want to know if PGPMAX is right for me and provided I get in and complete it, what options do I have in terms of opportunities in switching to larger organizations and what to expect in terms of position and remuneration. I know I am almost definitely going to have to compromise on the remuneration but need to get and idea of how much, abundance/lack of career opportunities afterwards.

Can you please get me in touch with alumni who can answer my questions? I will highly appreciate any help/responses. Thanks!

Hi All,

Need your inputs on the suitability of my profile for ISB. Is the experience too much? Are there people of similar profile in the current batch.

Profile in Brief - Will have 8 years 7 Months of IT(Infosys) experience by Feb 2013.Close to 30 years old. Currently playing the role of Team lead for my current project and reporting to the offshore program manager. Teams from 3 other locations also report to my program manager. Team size is 8-10 members in a niche technology(WCS).WCS is built on Java and I am also quite well versed in Java.

GMAT - 740 , Q 48 V 42.

Onsite Ex - 3 years of onsite experience working for Bank of America from 2007-2010. Recent short trips to US as offshore lead for initial project setup for an Ecom major.

Long Term goal - I will continue to be a part of IT industry but want to get exposure to other facets of Industry like Corporate planning, Business development etc. Right now all my experience is in delivery. I plan to be an enterpreneur if i can find the right opportunity and right team for it. Otherwise I aim to reach a leadership/strategizing postion in the IT Services/Product business in one of the Indian IT biggies. For all this i hope that the knowledge/network that i gain in PGPX/EPGP or ISB will help me.

Recommendations Question? - I have good connect with my clients in BOFA and should be able to get recommendations from the clients i reported to. I also can get recos from my current manager if that will be considered as having more weightage. I have worked across 2 domains(Ecommerce and Investment Banking) in a technical capacity. Should i try to get one recommendation from each of the domains? Should i focus on the recent recommendations or can I go back to 2010?

EC - Not much. Part of a volunteer organization for youth based out of kerala. The organization is spiritual in nature and is part of an ashram that i have been associated with a very long time. Was treasurer of this org in 2002-2004 time frame and is an active member/mentor for the newer folks.

Thanks.

Well, video essays at NYU and UCLA were optional(UCLA dropped it last year from its host of essays) and were not time bound,as far as my research goes.Even Tuck had given an option of video this year for its consortium program.I feel its a great step by ISB to include it in the app as actions certainly speaks more than words. This part really makes the app more exciting. The only doubt running through my mind is whether to be conservative ,giving the video a formal touch or take the liberty to let my creative juices flowing.
