i am giving my GMAT in April end, let us form a study group if anybody intrested.

Hi Ashishkd.. I am from Mumbai too.. I am currently working and plan to give GMAT in end of Aug..

A suggestion.. can u please rename the name of this thread from GAMT study group in mumbai - april,may-09 to GMAT test takers online study group for 2009- Mumbai or rather to GMAT test takers in 2009 working professionals from Mumbai? it should increase the number of puys who can post a reply here.. I am sure there are many ppl who will appear for GMAT during the year and would prefer an online group and cannot afford the time to join a class..

Hi to everyone who all are reading this post. I am Meenakshi and will appear for GMAT exam in the end of Aug as i have mentioned earlier also.. I am currently working and my work timings and office pressure leave no room and determination for me to join a class.. Hence i require an online group with which i can study as if i have already joined a class.. I am sure there may be many working professionals who cannot join a class like me but want to give GMAT. Lets join in this thread where we can put in our comments, plan out our strategies and keep a check on them while we execute them..

Books to be refered: Official Guide 11 for GMAT, Official Guide for Quant and verbal, Kaplan.

A helpful site that was brought to my notice by a fellow puy is GMAT Wings - Committed To Excellence

I would request the other puys to come and post their startegies or any helpful info.

Thanks in advance.. 😃

Hi all,
Shubhendu here.Planning to give GMAT in May.Due to hectic office timings, not able to kickstart my gmat prep.I have softcopies of some of the GMAT materials downloaded from esnips(Manhattan SC,OG 10)..So whenever i get some free time in my office/home ,i try to practise from these materials as much as i can.
Gave OG test before starting any sort of serious prep.(again downloaded from esnips)Got 660(48 Quant,32 VA)
From the scr it is quite clear that i need to work really hard in VA.
But nt able to draw out a clear strategy for the prep.
I guess studyin in groups will definately help, looking forward for puy's from mumbai to join this grp,so that we can help each other

Cheers
Shubhendu

Hi Shubhendu.. nice to see atleast one of the working prof who sails in the same boat as i do.. 😃

have u booked ur exam date as of nw?

have u booked ur exam date as of nw?

Hi Meenakshi..well I bet thr will be many more lyk us
But it's strange to find out that only few ppl hav joined the group so far, considering the fact that we live in MUMBAI :)
I havn't taken the date so far(Actually i am not able to streamline my strategies so far, thats y if we hav a good group over here we can help each othr immensely)
But most probably will take the date in coming weeks(read it as March 2nd week),after giving 2-3 more tests & finding out where i stand currently.Planning to give it in May last week.
What about you & your strategies so far??
Again will luv to c many more PGites frm Mumabai pouring here & helping each other..
Cheers

I have no idea why havent the ppl from mumbai giving GMAT exam have not seen this thread.. Anyways..

Since most colleges take intake either in April or Jan or Sep i decided to give the GMAT exam in Aug.. Till then i have full 5 months to prepare.. Also by the time i apply to colleges i need 2 full years of work ex.. now i have only 1 and half years of work ex.. so till then even the work ex hurdle will be taken care of..

Frankly speaking even i am not able to strategise properly.. I have asked one puy (he scored 710) for suggestion.. He has given a link which i m not sure can help u.. Tht links mentions a study plan of rigorous 3 months of prep for GMAT. Let me know if you want tht... I m thinking to extend tht plan from 3 months to 5 months.. I plan to finish the OG, OG Verbal and OG Quant, Kaplan 800, lots of online tests and if time permits Kaplan comprehensive and Princeton also. OG will only help u to get a score arnd 650 to 690. Kaplan will push u to 740 range.. Atleast tht is wht i have read everywhere. 😃 By March start that is in 3 days i intend to start the OG11 edition. I will also try to keep posting my developments here.. Lets see how it goes.

How about you? How much have you finished studying?

By the way i just wonder where this ashishkd guy has disappeared..

I am in... just want to know, does any of you guys have set any time table till now. When are we planning to give GMAT exams.

I have no idea why havent the ppl from mumbai giving GMAT exam have not seen this thread.. Anyways..

@ Meenakshi

Hi again,
Well at this stage u seem to have a far more concrete strategy than mine.
Newaz i hav planned out somethnk lyk ths-
Will start from OG 11(Complete,Quant,VA)Will try to finish ths in 1 month time i.e. at the end of march.I hav OG 10 sof copies also so will try to go thru the que from that also.Wil give than GMATPrep test to check where i stand than(I got 660 some days back whn i gave one old downloaded GMAC test, planning for 750+ so hopefully will hav made some improvement by than(680-700))
Than will try to poke in KAPLAN(as suggested by u 😃 ),Manhattan SC etc.Though not sure about this part till now, will depend on my scr @ the end of march. Will take GMAT date accordingly after that

Actually gave CAT last year so hopefully quant will not take that much time.VA will be the key.
On office days will try to give 2-3 hrs(1-1.5 hr for concept building & rem time for solving que, will try to follow a strict 70 mins schedule to solve 40-45 ques)
Weekend will be devoted to revise basic formulaes, concept building + practise.Lets c how it goes(atleast will try to follow ths till the end of march)

Any suggestion from u & other pgites is welcomed...
I gt PM from reachnagraj,so i hav that link

@aditya

Welcome to the group(though it's still gaining strength)...
Hopefully we will keep motivatin each othr lyk ths to beat GMAT :D

Cheers

hi
nice to c u here Meenakshi and Shubhendu. Sorie to reply u late, though i have started this thread. I will change the name of the thread so as to attract many GAMT takers.
I am currently working, and i have roughly 1.5 years of experience.
I have taken the date for GMAT on 25th june, after postponing the date two times.so let us start studying by keeping the target in mind to crack the GMAT. Let us formulate the plan about how to study. My suggestion would be let us start studying from the same book and we all will keep target for ourselves , and then discuss them out.For ex. say for a day we will solve 30 CR questions from OG10 and then discuss them out online. This will help us to keep the target in mind and we will get differnt views about the same problem.

hi
from where do i and how do i change the name of the thread?

@ Shubhendu,
Hey.. seeing ur plan i feel worried now.. was i sleeping till now not to have made plans like u did..
u r absolutely right abt solving questions everytime u sit to study.. i gonna try and incorporate tht in my plan for sure.. it gives u great practise.. thanks for tht valuable point.. 😃 I also gonna start with the OG11 complete and then move on to quant and verbal.. so till then we are together.. Actually i gonna almost completely follow ur plan i guess.. it suites me.. thanks for formulating my plan buddy..

I am a little worried about my quant.. My quant is weak as compared to verbal.. so i want to concentrate more on it.. hope i do it well.. 😞

aditya12c Says
I am in... just want to know, does any of you guys have set any time table till now. When are we planning to give GMAT exams.

Hi aditya12c.. Welcome to the group.. :
We have been discussing our strategies and the plans for GMAT.. I assume even you must be having any plan or strategy to share with us over here?

I plan to take the GMAT by Aug.. Shubhendu plans to take it in May.. Ashishkd is one more who plans to take it arnd tht time.. When do u plan to take ur GMAT?

Hey Ashishkd!!

I am in for ur great plan.. :cheerio: I have the same books as Shubhendu has... OG11 - complete, Verbal and Quant.. We can start with OG11 complete first as shubhendu gonna start.. I checked the book and only the diagnostic test is almost 100 pages with answers.. :nervous:
Lets skip that or take tht and the first topic in Math review that is 4.1 Arithmetic. Just the Arithmetic is 12 pages.. As shubhendu suggested we can then solve questions related to Arithmetic but i dont know from where to find the questions related to this topic.. I have the correspondence course of the CAT material. Can try and find questions in tht book and solve them. But guys do u knw where we can find questions that we all can get our hands on? I plan to start studies by tomo or today..
Then we can come and set a time where we all can come online and put our comments over here.. 11 pm suites me.. What say guys?? Do u all have any suggestions to make.. Shubhendu?? Ashishkd?? Aditya12c??

hi
from where do i and how do i change the name of the thread?

I dont knw how u can do tht.. but there has to be some settings which u need to update.. May be if one of the moderators is seeing this thread then plz help ashishkd to change the name of the thread.. or ashishkd u have to ask one of the moderators for it.. may be pm them or something..
Changed the title of the thread.

Meenakshi, pls do not share contact information of sources which sell pirated version of official material.

hi all
Before formulating the study plan and further strategies , i think its important to know about our backgrounds and which area to attack for maximizing the score. As far as i have studied the oattern of GMAT , i think key is verbal(a section i need to work a lot). if u have looked at the scaled scores of those who have scored well above 700+ , u will realise that even if slight improvement in Varbal score takes ur score higher than the simelar improvement in Quant. So obviously Verbal section is a score booster.and u cannot neglect that.
What i could suggest is that we have roughly 4 months in hand for preparation,so before we actually start the preparation ,its better if all we from mumbai meet up personaaly once and then start our studies ,by helping each other.Because i feel for GMAT more than ur talent , hardwork and motivating study partner helps you to reach to ur goals.
I have lots of study material to study and i have spoken to guys who have raised their scores from 570 to 730 ......which is commendable........so we should get inspired by these people and start looking beyond 750+.........so if i have to talk about myself.......what i expect from this study group is ..........motivating and hardworking guys...........who wish to crack GMAT with any obstacle they are ready to face during the GMAT journey...................

Decide fast on my thought, caz we cant let time pass as it is ................count 1 hour loss daily.....as ur loss in GMAT score.........

@ Meenakshi
Hey Meenakshi.. Ur plan works for me.. I will start Arithmetic today.. I saw the diagnostic test and it is too big for me.. i would rather study first and then try the test bcz now the low scores may bring my morale down a bit. so i wud directly jump to the arithmetic..

@ Ashishkd
Dude abt meeting lets see...

In arithmatic what are u gonna start with?

@ashishkd
hi ashish
first of all plz remove your mobile number from the post. It's against the PG rules. All the PGites in ths forum plz remember that according to PG rules,if u want to gv ur cntact info(email id,contact num,phn num etc etc)u can pm it to other people, but u cannot put it in ur respective posts. So lets try to follow the rules of ths sacred thng that is goin to help all of us.. :)
ok...bahut ho gayi bhashan baaji..lets get to the business...well as told by ashish we all shud knw each other background so that we can atleast guess whr all of us stand respectively..
So here goes somthng about me
I am workin in a ITES cmpany frm last 1.5 yrs(1yr & 7 mnths to be precise).
A computer engg grad...Aiming for a MBA in 2010...
Planning to give GMAT ths may/june.1 info which i wud lyk to share with othr ppl here is"You dont need to have more than 2 yrs exp when you have to take the GMAT. The adcom will count your workex based on yout total exp at the time of start of the MBA program."As the 1st deadline for the season starting in may/june 2010 will be in & around october/november,giving GMAT will gv me ample time to do the R&D; abt the colleges & prepare my applications(i am taking a buffer time of 1 month so that if i flount at my first attempt for GMAT(read it as scrNow comes the main que...PREPARATION.. :D.."Strategies are of no use,if we r nt implementing them properly":D
Ashish as far as VA is concerned,i personally feel we all r on the same boat(eng being our 2nd language :)..)I will advise u all that in addition to all the usual practise of CR(critical reasoning),SC(sentence correction),& RC from OG,Manhattan,etc.etc...Try to read as much u can on ur comp, because i think readin hard copies & reading softcopies is quite different(the strain on ur eyes is pretty much more in the 2nd case)..I am tryin to make a habit of reading novels & othr stuffs on my lappy(even in the ofc whnever i m free,i try to read some of the novels on my comp)...
@Meenakshi
1st of all remove the demon in ur mind ki Quant is ur weakness...Quant is all about gettin urself acquanited with sm basic concepts & than practising as much as u can on those concepts.Start ur prep by understanding the basic concepts(formulaes etc)& than start solvin the que in increasing order of difficulty level.I bet with some prac u wl start gaining more & more confidence & eventually conquer ur so called 'WEAKNESS'..:D.& blv me GMAT quant is much easier than wht u get in CAT/XAT.U can start practisin the que frm ur cat material(btw which insti do u hav the materials??I hav IMS & practisin frm the same)
@All
As we all are starting near abt same time,i think all of us shud gv ourselves smtime(10-12 days) so that we all can knw hw we r faring at differrent thngs.Than we all can meet at sm place & discuss abt the further plan.Till than we wil be havin more ppl in our grp.
We all can start with OG
Chalo abhi ke liye itna hi...

Cheers
:D
