Arre yaar ... I also applied for the first round ... I haven't heard anything from them ... Another friend of mine who has applied also hasn't heard back from them ... All i get are trivial mails regarding football matches, facilities and curriculum from them. Lets C.

HI Guyz,
I just had an interview on 16th Dec..It was pretty tough one:(

I had sent out the app by the early deadline. Got back a response last Saturday saying that they are postponing their decision for later and suggesting that i retake the gmat (maybe) to improve my chances. Looks like I didn't make the first cut  so they are shelving me for pooling against the next group of apps. Didn't quite understand their reasoning though about suggesting the gmat-retake (had a 670 - q:48; v:34; awa:5) and they stated that their mid 80% score in the range of 600-720. So am not sure what exactly bombed in my app material and if its worth putting in another $250 for the retake. Anybody got any suggestions ?

cheers

I believe that you have a lot of good work excs in the IT field and also a substantial amount is international experience. I think that OSU decision is not based on your entire profile, essays or recos, it might rather be based only on the GMAT score for international students. We together are in perhaps the most competitive pool of MBA aspirants ( Indian IT professionals ), this pool is charaterised by very high GMAT scores which you may already know.

That said. It is quite strange on part of OSU to make a statement like that on the GMAT score. So does this mean that one will be invited for interview in the 1st round, if he\she is above the 20-80 range. So that would mean that a good candidate may lose out on scholarships if not on admits. This is truly unfortunate.

My personal view.. Retake GMAT.. Cross 700.. With your profile you can easily aim for the top 20. But retaking GMAT will mean that you will mostly have to apply next year.

Best of luck !

Can you tell us about your profile and questions you faced...

 I am just shocked to hear this... With 670 I would say you are just fine, so do not bother on that aspect....

What's ur profile like... First time I have heard something like this really and I have read it 5 times, bcos I cannot believe what you have posted here:shocked:

This is a weird situation...

Ohio isn't an elite school... and then they are askingfor re-taking GMAt....!!! above all u fall in their range pretty high !!!

when did you give ur GMAT exam !! ???
THey could have asked this for may be other reasons..
I didn't intend to create a panic or anything with my post. Maybe something went wrong in my app package (but cannot seem to figure out what exactly, though). Maybe because i took the gmat twice and they are averaging the scores (in oct-2004: 620 and in oct-2006: 670). Or it could be perhaps my quant/verb balance (48:34). Quoting from their mail ..."..it would be to your advantage to have your application considered among a larger pool of applicants. For this reason, the committee has decided to defer a final decision until a later date. .....the committee recommended that you consider retaking the Graduate Management Admission Test to strengthen your application....". They in fact also have asked me to let them know when exactly I plan to re-take (that is in case I do).

I think the fact that they didn't call for an interview suggests something more than the interview. I am not quite inclined to retake the gmat. Even if I do, it won't be before mid-feb that i get back into prep-mode and pull out a decent score and by then it could very well happen that they run out of any vacancies on their entering class (the 2nd deadline would have passed). Moreover, the chance for a schol would also be minimal then.

My profile in brief... gmat-670, toefl-114(ibt), agril-engg with cgpa of 8.11/10, 8.5+yrs IT work-ex through 2 mnc companies(intl 6+), 2 strong recos from US-based senior managers and 1 from previous project peer member.

Thanks for all your thoughts.

Birdfree,

Now it's very confusing...
the adcom process isn't transparent...

Your experience seems to be very strong and deep... A guy with such experince, i guess can get admitted with high probability....

May be they are considering the strong reasons why u want to opt for a MBA than a executive MBA... (coz of such expericne)

I think we indians are raising the bar of GMAT and then making the competition more tough....

Anyways, did anyone else get an interview call....

Nitin

Hi nitin,

Though i haven't received any email of interview invitation, I see my status on application online status page as

"Your application has been referred for evaluation. Some materials are still needed by your program office and should be sent directly to that office.
- DEPARTMENT REQUESTS INTERVIEW"

Did you to recieve an invitation similarly... or receievd a mail for that ??

What kind of specifi c questions did they pose, how long was the call !!
please share ur profile and interview expericens !!

Hi Sumit,
I was asked such questions as tell me what have u done which has impacted the entire industry, what will you do if ur Project Leader is not good...the questions were very unconventional and I felt really unprepared for them

Looks like they have notched up their criteria as well as screening processes and are testing out the typical 'thinking-on-your-feet' stuff through their interviews by making them unpredictable/unconventional.

Hi,
Same is the case with me. First question what did you learn from your internship experience during B Tech, Exemplary leadership example etc etc. I tried answering my best but as questions were really unconventional it was really challenging to answer them on the run time.

Thanks
Nitin

Hi ppl,

I submitted my application on Nov 5th, got my interview invitation by Dec 8th, 'd my interview on 12th. And as some of you have pointed out, the interview went beyond the the conventional 'why mba, why fisher' type questions. I had two absolute thoughtblockers in my interview( though i think i managed them well). Here goes:

The questions started with : explain your leadership exp and contribution to fisher, how did you arrive at MBA and then Fisher, how would you like your team members to be, what would you do if your project leader is not working properly and then suddenly I get this:

Describe a technological innovation that you foresee in the next 2 to 3 years?

after i managed it somehow, i get another one

Describe any two industries that are mutually exclusive to each other?

God!! For a moment, i completely felt outtta place. Somehow managed this one and then the interview proceeded smoothly. Not the kind of satisfaction that i got after my interview with Tepper, but completed!! whew!! and seeing your posts, i guess its the same case with all you people who've'd their interview..

Good luck to all of you!! Hope to see admits soon. ( I saw one already in admissions411.com!!)

cheers
