Three great news within four days...this being the biggest...

I have been selected for an admit in BU with $70,000 scholarship. Hence, entire tution has been taken care of.

After a bad CAT (22 in Quant...yes Quant!!), I have the liberty to choose my options early.

Have to be interviewed at Lancaster and ISB. With Lancaster being in a not-so-job-friendly-state (UK) and with the will to have some international experience, I would probably choose BU...

Would like to know about others who have got an admit...n would also like to know if I can be of any help (only for application process....can't talk about school at length...he he he!!!) for puys aspiring to get into BU.

Thanks to PG and puys around...i've learnt a lot here...

Hope the good work continues...

Thanks & Regards,
Maxximus

Hi,

Though this is my first post in PG I have been a reader for quite long.
I had applied to Boston and interviewed in Mumbai on Dec 5.
Today I got a mail saying I have been waitlisted. i am at a loss here as to what went wrong as I thought I had a decent package. My Profile:

GMAT - 720(given in 2006)
TOEFL - 111(given in 2007)
Acads - Avg, BE Computers from Mumbai Univ
Extra Curriculars: Good
Exp - 3+ years as software engineer in a global giant, working on developing software products
Knowledge of spanish.

Could some 1 please give some clue about what could have gone wrong?
This especiallyu hurts since Boston was one of my safe schools and ISB has already dinged me.

congrts maximus bhai

Hey panks_R ,

Don't get disheartened. Even I am unable to figure out this entire process. Even I got a ding from ISB. They did not even bother to call me to interviews. Bus lage raho and one fine day, you will come out trumps. Analyze your essays a bit but don't get obsessed with it. remember Good things happen only when good times come:)

BTW , I have got an admit from Boston University with 100% schol and have made up my mind for it.

Guys,

I got a ding from ISB too..

Hi Prash,
I am planning to apply to BU.. Please help me out.. if you could share some more information like how was ur interview.. etc.. it will be helpful..
Also, if you can share your email id.. that would be of help.

regards,
Naren

Hey Naren,

Int was standard, I thought.

Tell me about yrself, why mba,why boston, leadership, achievement, team role n such stuff. Only thing is that I had googled chris storer, my interviewer and did let him know this through one of my questions. N rest as I always believe is your share of luck.

Without it no matter what you do, n how good you are , you cannot make the cut :)

I am sorry for a late reply...starting the thread and absconding...actualy am out of town n will write a detailed post on my selection.

The crux...a good score and a very unconventional profile did me in i think...

740/5.5
2 + experience scatterted over automation, army and training
Extra curriculars, very good
Lotsa community service
Essays, i think i could not have done a better job...atleast in terms of structure and content.

As I said, will type a detailed mail on the entire experience very soon...

Congrats prash..let's get in touch...will PM you shortly..

Regards,
Maxximus

Congrats maximus...Sure we should get in touch...I am new to PG so it is you who have to PM me

Count me in!!

Got in with a scholarship ($60K instead of $70K though, I dont know why is the difference). Anyways, guys let me know if you are planning to meet or something.

Does anyone have pointers about the actual placements/experience and general insight for MS.MBA course. More so from a international student perspective ?

got an admit..but need pointers to research the school further..

thanks..

Maximus and Prash,
Congrats again.. Please let us know more and more information.

Prabhu,
Congrats to you to.. Please let us know your profile as well.

regards,
Naren

Congrats Prabhu .....

I think BU is a decent school and with scholarship, it makes it all the more attractive.

I am waiting for my Duke decision, but with no schols available at Duke, I am determined to take my plunge at the BU.

Naren, make your essay very objective and I believe only adcom members review your essays (mostly american) , try to talk about things which might seem to be insignificant by Indian standards but might be significant for an American viz people handling skills and the likes.:

Prashant

Thanks Prash..

All,
If anyone has BU thread for last year.. please post it..
I want to know everything about BU.. I am applying now.. missed the first round..

My gmat score is'nt great though its just 680. rest all decent. Wana enter into strategy consulting or general management.. please suggest schools for me..

regards,
Naren

Hey Maximus!
Dude you specified that you had some training stuff in the Army.
I wanted to ask how you portrayed it in your essays. I being one
of the unlucky chaps to miss the authority of army because of a
medical problem. I joined IMA and was suggested to return back :(

Well its history. I am applying to B-schools for Fall-08. I have 3 years
of work ex by fall 08. I scored 690 😞 in GMAT, have excellent Extra C and
intense community work. If I can add the army thing in, I guess
I can make a cut, and patch-up my low GMAT score.
Dude plz answer soon as the deadlines are running faster..
