Hey,
I am just wondering if anyone has applied to Babson College for their mba. If so, has anyone heard from the admissions committee as yet??

Babson is my top choiceI applied to the program in the second round and am pretty nervous
Although I have 4 years of stellar work experience, my Gmat score of 640 is rather low.

Hey guys, I applied to Babson in R1 and have an admit right now.

Let me know if you need to know anything about Babson.

Jack

hey Myfriends6,
Congrats on your admit to babson.
can you pls enlighten upon wht to possibly expect for the interviews.. the nature of questions, etc..

Also pls share your profile..!!

My profile:

GMAT: 730 balanced
TOEFL: 117 balanced
Workex: 3 years - primarily sales-marketing; presently in an edupreneurial firm, again with a focus on marketing
ECAs: superb
Essays: superb

Interview : Babson student; this was very conversational, nothing extraordinary. Strengths, weaknesses, success, failure and all. I felt that they were trying to see how well I communicated, and if I really had the passion I had communicated in the essays. On a couple of Q, i wasn't sure and fumbled, and then told her that i wasn't sure - we laughed it off. Cool tha...!

IMO, the essays were what got me this admit.

Love this school, but not sure if I will join it - personal reasons. Am in touch with Babson, hope they help me out.

Cheers, and loads of luck!

Jack

Guys, whats your profile like? I might have some ideas for your interviews, from my 45min experience
Hey,
Congrats on Babson!
I have an in person interview on the 26th am mad nervous.

My profile is
GMAT: 640
WorkEx: 4 years supply chain, marketing & sales, presently a manager at an MNC.
Volunteer work at an NGO for the last 8 years play an integral role in the organization
Essays: Ok

Dont think my chances are too great

Whoa!!! 8 years NGO work.

Dude, this could be the one thing that differentiates you from other Indian candidates. Do highlight this, and I hope you have done it in your essays also.

Secondly, your GMAT is low by Indian standards (and the Babson benchmark for Indian stuents to, I suppose). If your acads were good, do mention them in your interview. Moreover, if your GMAT score is mentioned, and they say that they are not very happy with it, be ready to retake it. Hope your TOEFL was ok, especially the written section.

Thirdly, have answers to the basic questions in place.

1. Why MBA, why now, why Babson, what after Babson?
2. Strengths, weaknesses, leadership moments, successes, failures?
3. Anything that strikes out, in your application. NGO one is for sure.

Also, at the end, you might be asked if you want to mention anything that has not yet been covered. Do have your best card for this one - even if you have mentioned your strongest point, do so again. Reiterate that you really want to join Babson, and show why it is a great fit for you.

Best of luck, and keep us all posted.

Hey Jack,
Have a few questions.. instead of a telephone interview I have opted for one in person and thus am flying into boston. I get to attend one of the monday morning sessions and then have an interview after that. I guess one thing this shows is that if i am willing to fly across half the world for an interview then i really want to go to the school. Are there any pointers you could help me out with.
Thanks
Natasha

You do seem strongly interested in Babson, and I hope they percieve it this way 😃 On the other hand, there is always the chance that they might wonder if you love to throw your money around, or are desperate for Babson, esp since the ppl from Babson will be in India next week - Babson College - India Reception See if you can do something to manage this possible perception.

Pointers - I suppose the content of the interview will remain the same. If you have time, practice a f2f interview with someone here, or in Boston. Also, since you will attend a class there, do expect questions on whether it met your expectations and so on.

Moreover, you could ask the Adcom to connect you with some indian students at Babson, even before you leave. This way you would have known faces on campus, and can mention this during the interview too.

Do let us know how things turn out! Best of luck!!!

Jack

My essays were good but I later discovered to my horror that there was a typo in one of my essays, do you think that the adcom will be ok with that?

Gaurav

Your GMAT is definitely low - it is below the Babson average, plus since we happen to be Indians, we are benchmarked against a higher score. If your acads were good, or if you were in a highly selective college, do mention them somewhere in the appl process. If you do get a reject (from all places you apply to), I suggest you attend some short-term courses in statistics; or maybe even retake the GMAT, if you believe you can hike your score by atleast 30 points.

The typo - unless your previous workex was as in the journalism/publishing industry, it is okay to make mistakes. I hope there were only 1 or 2 though

Have mentioned about my interview earlier, so scroll up.

Stay in touch!

Jack

PS: If you are in/near Mumbai, try to attend this event Babson College - India Reception

Some time is budgetted for phone problems, and disconnects etc. Am aware of 2 phone interviews, and they were of 30 and 45 minutes each. But they were scheduled for an hour each, initially.

Since this is a telephonic interview, have your essays in front of you, spread on the table. Maybe, even key pointers for the main questions, that are expected.

By the way, who is your interviewer? Student (1st or 2nd year) or an admin person?

Best of luck !!!
Jack

My suggestions:

1. Retake the GMAT (focus on the OG, and the verbal section)
2. See if you can take some quant-based courses, such as those in eco or stats
3. Apply way early - R1 is a must!

Learn from this year, and better luck for next year. Yeah, see ya in Boston.
