Hi guys,
I'm a Fall 2011 aspirant and aiming for US B Schools. have kicked off this thread so that applicants can come on board and share the knowledge. Last year we had excellent knowledge sharing. It's already mid july and no activity on PG kind of surprises me.

There is another thread on the same lines
http://www.pagalguy.com/forum/international-indian-mba-schools-accepting/54168-2010-mba-applications.html#post2173288

The thread never got going. Don't know why. It's buried under the pile of threads now.

Mods in case you deem this thread inappropriate, please merge the two threads.

My Profile

Hey Good to see a Fall '11 thread..

Another reapplicant here I got rejects last time around. maybe R2 + sub 700 score was a problem. I am targeting R1 this year. Hoping for better results.

So Nishant you identified the schools where u will apply?

@altair : No i'm still in process of identifying schools which i would be targetting. Though McCombs / Emory / BU are definites on my list as per my last year research.

Great! Even I am looking at McCombs. They don't give much scholarship do they? Targeting 7 schools this year...

Hello Mates....i am on the same boat ....thinking of applying in fall11.
my vital stats ( 😃 ) are as follows -
700/5.5 ; 5+ yrs in IT ; decent acads ; EC nothing grt.
Could u pls help in suggesting some schools plz?

Hi guyz..
I'm an aspirant of Fall 2011 with 3+ yrs of exp. Currently working on the wheels of preparation for GMAT.
I'm searching for information on collages.
Can any one help me out in providing the list of collages with the average scores they accept to have an idea of which collages to apply for.

It would be of great help for me if the list includes both Indian and abroad collages. Thanks in advance!!.

Heyya puys!
I'm not looking to apply during the 2011 admissions window... Maybe a year or two down the line. But will begin my research wrt the dreaded admissions process asap...
I'm a computer engineer with close to 3 years of work-ex (2.2 in the financial domain with a top I-bank). Working on a start up in the education sector at the moment. Reasonably good academic and extra-curricular record. Took my GMAT last month and scored a 770 on it.
Will look for help and guidance from our fellow puys...
All the best to all the fall '11 aspirants! Hope you all get the right fit of universities for yourselves. :cheerio:
Regards,
Pranam

Which Schools. You don't really select school on GMAT score. See what you want to do..consulting/finance/entrepreneurship and then map your gmat score. But yes pick up US News 2010 rankings and start with Top 45 schools. Your score is good enough for 10-45 rank schools easily. For top 10 score matters, but what matters much more is your profile, which only you can present in essays/interviews.

Indian colleges are ISB/Great Lakes. Top 50 schools again. Look for schools based on passion and not on scores. Once you shortlist based on your passion, then apply scores criteria.

Awesome score, nice line of work. You are a top 5 material, if you can do interesting things in coming 2 years. Community should be at top of it.

Thanks Nishant23! That is great encouragement for me :)

Since you brought it up, what exactly do adcoms look for when they say they value community service? How much of a factor is it? Many ppl I've known only did it since they thought it would lend their profile some weight. Once every one starts doing it, wouldn't it be quite obvious that we are being very shallow... especially if it's done during the 1-2 years before we apply?

HI Nishant, Thanks for the lovely post. I am a Fall 2011 aspirant, and my profile goes as below:

My Profile
Gmat : Have started preperation, planning to give the exam somewhere in october
Workex- 3.3 years , Working with a leading financial research firm- Have managed to get diverse experience- Venture Capital, Equity Research and Process Management
extra curriculars, nothing great
Target Schools : mostly Tier 1&2 , consultancy

I have a very basic question? Is it too late to hope for admisisons in 2011 ( when I starting off now). Also with the kind of experience I have had would it be a detriment to my admisisons. I would relly appreciate if I get help on these issues , Lille confused as of now

Abhy

Hey all.. Thanks Nishant for starting this thread...

I too am a Fall 2011 aspirant. My target schools are Duke/CMU/Cornell/McCombs.

My profile
IT-7yrs/GMAT-650 (Planning to retake)
Extra-curricular - Good enough (I hope!)

Currently, I am in the research schools stage. Started with Duke and CMU.

Comments/plans welcome from profiles with similar target schools..

-Sharada
Hoping to collaborate and contribute!

I am also a Fall 2011 aspirant and am targeting US B schools along with few global ones which are reputed in General Management courses with electives in public policy and strategy! I plan to retake GMAT in August end 2010 and am basically a R1 candidate. My tentative schools list are:

  1. Ivey, Canada
  2. INSEAD, France
  3. Ross, US
  4. Cornell, US
  5. MIT Sloan
  6. Tuck
  7. IESE Spain
  8. Rice
  9. Darden
  10. Fuqua

Though need to refine this list further and hope to come out with my final 6-7 in this month so as to be prepared for R1. Any advices and suggestions on this part from fellow puys will be helpful! My profile is something like Indian IT Male, with 3 yrs right now will be 46 months by the time I join next year, mostly in Infrastructure Management and ITIL Process Management with one of the top Investment Bank in Singapore. All my work experience is onsite. My under-graduation was in Biomedical Instrumentation Technology and was a university gold medalist with 9.5/10 GPA.

Hi Sharda,

What are your primary priorities behind selection of these schools? Is it technology B Schools in your mind?

Hi Nishant,

Can you share with us your own perception of the strengths of the mentioned schools ?

Hi All,

I applied blindly last year to the top 5 programs last year and managed an interview with Wharton and Kellogg but couldn't convert those. This time, im putting more thought 😃

Wish i had logged into PG last year and made use of the infinte resources here

Welcome aboard MBA 2013, wish we make this time around!

Hello Everyone!

I also plan to apply to b-schools for fall 2011. I will be using my GRE score (1550/1600; 800 Q, 750 V). I have gone through the list of schools that accept the GRE score as well. Still have to decide on the schools. I have 3 years of consulting work experience and also have a diploma in economics from London School of Economics.

Best of Luck!

Community service is something which we get involved in involuntarily and being part of such activity gives us an opportunity to demonstrate various skills. Yes everyone will start doing it but then it is your job to convince adcom that you meant it from bottom of heart and the time does not matter. Not everyone is always free. But if you have been pursuing it for long time, better it is

October will be late for R1 of most schools but you can always try for R2. Do apply this year.Even if it doesnt materializes it teaches you a lot for next year. i applied with even lesser exp and got 3 intv calls. If you can project yourself well, exp should not be detrimental to your chances

Hey all.. Thanks Nishant for starting this thread...

Your target schools seem good. You have a good exp, way higher than what i've come across. But if you could manage 700+ in GMAT , top 10 would be worth a try.

Hi Nishant,

Can you share with us your own perception of the strengths of the mentioned schools ?

All schools have a flexible curriculum where i can bring electives early in year. Good leadership development program ,locations, good consulting programs. BU offers boston and some schols too

Hi Nishant

Have you finalized the list of schools where you will be applying? How many schools will you be sending the applications to? I want to have 5 schools in my final list where I will send my application. It's a pity that ISB does not accept GRE scores.

Best of luck!
