According to last years's trend,you will get a call...the cut-off was 30%tile....So you may apply...But you have to perform really well to convert the call...........

seniors please help. the XISS prospectus says that i need to tick 'XISS' while applying for XAT. i dont remember if i had ticket XISS. is there a way to find out if i have ticked XISS??? i have scored 92 percentile overall open category. please guide.

Well according to last year's trend you all will get a call..Since the cut-off was 30%tile..........
But to be honest,you have to perform out of your skin in order to make the final cut........
Would suggest you to prepare well for your interviews particularly for questions like WHY HR? WHY XISS? YOUR WEAKNESS AND STRENGTHS etc...

Well, i repeat again, the cut-off is expected to be 30%ile, as has been the case, every year..
But, let me tell you again, you might get a GD/PI call at this percentile, but you need to perform really nicely to get a final conversion..

1. Personnel Management was the erstwhile term of the Contemporary HR mgmt. These are just words-in-vogue stuff of management jargon and nothing more. With the changing paradigm & usage, HRM term became prevalent. The 50 odd-years-old institutes like XLRI & XISS still use PM & IR instead of HRM as the deptt. names. You have an option to chose either HRD(leading to a career in full-fledged HRM career) or Industrial Relations Specialisation, in the 2nd year.

2. Plz refer to the previous posts for salary/placement related details.

3. Fees for 2 years < 3 Lacs. Hostel/Mess Charges are minimal.


4. Stress is not laid on Social Service a la TISS during P.I. but yes, be prepared to justify yourself for a prospective career as an HRM and how you're gonna make it big in the field (your skill sets, aptitude with relevant examples and track-record will do the trick). Brand Yourself, i'll suggest.Rest will be a Cakewalk.

5. For XAT cut-offs and other details, plz go thru the previous posts.

I am filling up the application form.In the instructions in Admissions Prospectus, it is mentioned that we have to give the year of passing graduation along with the marks obtained and the max marks. But there is no separate space for the year of passing. Can anyone of you tell me where to fill up the year of passing? i filled up the MO/MM and the Percentage rows completely and i dont have any space in the boxes left for the years. Can i mention the years beside I,II,III, etc. in the Semester row above the MO/MM row?

Well can answer a few questions---

1.Technically Personnel Management is not same as Human Resource Management.....Personnel Management is oriented towards the maintenance and administration of human resource whereas HRM is a much broader term which includes HRD also as its area of operation.....
But more or less you will get to work in the HR domain of an organisation only.....

2.The placements for PM in XISS has been good over the years....average package hovers around the 4.5-5.5 lacs mark....

Well you may get a call but it might be difficult for you to convert because RD programme in XISS is well known and so the competition is intense...
I feel a score of in between 75-85%tile with a good GD/PI will be sufficient for final conversion.....
Since XISS does not ask for sectional cut-offs i would suggest you to apply and hope for the best....
And remember one thing..RD is a sectoral specific specialization..If you can justify why you are willing to undertake Rural Development in your PI round,you can very well see yourself in the merit list irrespective of your written score...

The Last Date of Applying is FEB 1. Wait for XAT results and apply. Think it'll be out near 20 JAN. If you're interested in RD, go for it. RD deptt. has Impressive faculty aggregation, course structure & placements.

But i would strongly recommend you to apply to only Personnel Management...Apply to Rural Development if you are interested to have a career in that sector....
Marketing and Finance are new courses and still the placements are shady for marketing and finance....

Aspirants must understand that the Institute has a Social Service Orientation and is Quite different from Other B-Schools. it's best known for the Sectoral Specific niche HRM & RD programs. Unless you have a passion (read Social Passion), you can't make Big in these fields. My advice will be to follow your heart rather than opt for a department having GOOD PLACEMENTS. This way you'll avoid committing A GROSS ERROR regarding career choice and will be HAPPY & SATISFIED with a profession of YOUR INTEREST.

The XAT cut-offs for admission varies DEPARTMENT-WISE & CATEGORY-WISE.
For PM & RD, IT'S GENERALLY HIGH for general category students. The no. of seats in both the departments is 75 each, out of which 50% are reserved. Means, you're left with 35+ odd seats in each, out of which several are meant for management-quota (filled through personal contacts and the sort, which's not officially disclosed, reducing the numbers). Therefor, the competition is tough for these departments. Roughly, the XAT %ile of successful students (Gen category, strictly on merit) for PM ranges 80s-90s and for RD ranges 70s-80s. Plus, Interview is the MOST VITAL part of the process. You must be able to justify why you're looking forward to make a career in the field. Remember that you're applying for a Specialization and not for a General Mgmt. Program a la other Institutes (where you've the freedom to decide in the second year).
Apart from a good XAT Score, to make a cut in PM/RD( again, if you're a Gen Category student,applying strictly on merit basis), you must have something significant to show : e.g. excellent acad record/ cocurriculur achievements/ work-ex etc. The Rush is high.

Cut-Off for Marketing is not that high. This department is newly established, it's the 3rd best of the institute.

For Finance/IM, XAT cut-off is the lowest (Ranges as low as the 30s. Seriously!! )
Anyways, these aren't worth applying.You can think about Finance but just F'get about IM. It is the worst!

From this year, we have a centralised placement committee & hence the placement scene is quite rosy this year, when one compares it with the past few years..
However, to be very frank, placements are not 100% in finance(for that matter Marketing, Information Management)...
This year, a lot of good companies are coming for finance..

at tht time they werent looking for sectional.....

As far as i know,last year candidates who had 30%tile in XAT and applied to XISS separetly were called for GD/PI...So there was not any sectinal cut-offs....But a good percentile will enhance your chances of final conversion.:grin:

Since this year's paper was different and had a fifferential marking scheme it is difficult to predict your percentile....I would suggest you to wait till the results are declared and then apply accordingly..Last date to apply is 1st Februray 2011....

Well XISS is known for its Personnel Management and Rural Development Programme...If you are interestd in any of these course then you can apply...:grin:
Coming to Marketing and Finance...The reviews which i have received says" Placements are a bit on the lower side"..These are new courses and it will take time to establish themselves in the market....
