at ur rank syd mms is difficult, but u certainly have gud chance for syd pg.. as for difference between pg and mms, read previous posts..u will get ur answer..

It seems a lot of ppl have doubts between PG n MMS in Sydenham.

There is no difference in PG an MMS course except in the following parameters

1) MMS- Univ of mumbai PG- Govt of maharashtra
2) Difference of one sub in 1st sem in MMS
3) tht particular sub comes to PG in second sem
4) third sem 2 univ papers while pg has college papers
5) 4th sem 3-4 univ papers while college papers for pg.
6) exams schedules for both may be different
7) if u want to do further studies, PG is not considered as a masters degree

Apart from tht there is no difference in PG n MMS be it lectures, professors, classes, fees, library, PLACEMENTS etc.

Hope i have solved most of the ppls doubts :smile:

Last yr MMS after cancellation closed at 169 for open seats. ( i was the one who missed out, but never mind).

there were 4 cancellations in all after cancellation 3 guys frm pg went to MMS.

I think it closed at 167/ 240.

Again ...lemme reiterate that final cutoffs will be closer to first round cut offs. Many students did not apply in vacant seats round last year.

To give u an idea, had i applied this year, id be a pumba student rather than a sydenham student. Why? ... cos the seats wouldve filled up.

I guess u got a really good chance. But dont waste ur opputunity by not taking admission if u dont get MMS. Take PG.

You are right.

However, last year cancellation round was separate. First round PG closed at about rank 230. Many students did not apply cause they had lost hope (I personally know one such guy).

Hence there is a difference on 6 marks between first round cut off and last admitted student. I dont think this year you can expect such a gap considering that 2nd round is default.

in my class the last person to be admitted had a score of 161 after the cancellation round in PG. m not too sure abt the rank but it should be around 350. and tht has been because ppl were not aware of the cancellation round was seperate.

Considering ur state rank u do have a chance in syd MMS if ppl in ur category dont opt for syd MMS before u (guess only 2 seats r thr in each college under tht category)

I think we dont have the same reservation in PG for outside home univ.
Anyways u can try ur luck

In syd theres no big difference in MMS n PG. Both r being taught by same faculty etc.
Only exams for the final yr are held seperately as MMS has 4 uviv papers while PG has of college.
Apart from tht ONLY if u want to pursue further education u need MMS deg as PG is not recognised by foreign univ.

@ 134 u have bleak chance of getting into MMS but possible in cancellation round.
PG is definitely in for u.

as mentioned in other posts only the final sem for PG n MMS are diff whr they have 4 univ papers of 6 otherwise all same. First yr is common for both so no difference in faculty or teaching or subjects or for tht matter even palcements.

If I were you , I would add Syd PG after MMS.

The only reason NOT to put PG is that you ONLY want to do a Masters. Just keep in mind that all major institutes inclding IIMs offer a PG :)

In Sydenham the PGDBM actually started in 1976 as a 1 year program (name-DBM).then in 1992 name was changed to current PGDBM ,2 year duration.
In CET brochure, it says starting year as 2007 it is incorrect and needs to be corrected( reason might be that in 2006 only admission were held through CET).
Admissions were held through own test till 2006.
You can check it out by talking with current batch and friends.

Kindly refrain from posting in the other thread. That one is a year old

As you know , admission is centralised. So no college under CET has control over the mix of students.

As for the placements, use the 'search' function. There is a lot of data here on pagalguy. Fifteen minutes of proper effort will go a long way in helping you.

In a nutshell, JB averaged 10.5 lakhs (not completely certain) last year and we averaged 7.2 lakhs. So there you go.

Heres an insight into what is in store with this new course . . . . . . .

1. University of Pune (UoP)s honorable Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Narendra Jadhav, had a press conference on Monday, 18th June about his vision for making PUMBA a global brand by 2009 end. Dr. Jadhav, whos an ex-advisory to RBI has taken revolutionary steps for this.
   
2. MBA++ course will have the already existing trimester pattern with credit system, which is now more specially designed where first year includes general study about MBA i.e. management overall, added are the six month sessions each on functional know-how & sectoral know-how. This is in tandem with the industry exposure & continuous evaluation of students. It implies that there would be more practical approach to MBA.
   
3. MBA++ is designed with proper industry interaction, reputed visiting faculties from the industry as well as the academicians.
   
4. The two pluses in MBA++ represent the functional & sectoral studies other than the usual MBA program which consists of basic training & functional specializations of marketing, finance, HR, systems, operations. Sectors like Infotech & ITES, Retail, Banking & Insurance, and Engineering & Healthcare have been identified as of core importance. My sr batch had a doc, none in my batch.
As the doc was not interested in goin into pharma sector, we did not have a pharma co.
he had done his summers with Novartis.
We had grail research but not sure if it was pharma related profile.
Consulting companies like IBM consulting and a few others do come.

also, though i agree that at the end of the day its the effort we put in that matters,but when we talk about good companies cming for placements and the kind of profile and package offered, therz definately sm diff between JB and Syd and between Syd and Som.....so dnt quite agree when u say all good B schools are same....atleast in respect of placements...

finally...can u please lemme know how BIG is the diff between JB and Syd???

They also have a very strong n/w of alumni which helps in bringing companies which then dont come to syd..lotsa politics even thr..u will know more when u join a b-school

All gud B-schools give enuf opportunities and scope for a stdt to develop oneself and make most for themselves. So be it syd, jb. weli or som..all will provide u the similar environment. Its up to u how u can most out of the institute. all are gud colleges and definitely worth goin for. in my frank opinion, ur profile fits well for any B-school and its up to u to decide which suits u well.

At 163 u got a good chance of Syd MMS... Syd has a gud faculty of finance and plethora of gud finance companies coming to campus for placements.

As u have arnd two yrs of work ex, during ur placements which shld be arnd 1 1/2 yrs later, u will be eligble for lateral placements. Now these lateral palcements generally offer salaries much higher than the norman ones.

This yr not many stds were for laterals but those who were, got placements more than 7L n got gud profiles also.

Also u have woorked in TCS which gives u tech exp, coupled with Finance specilization is a very gud combi tht companies are really looking forward pick up. So i think it is a very gud bet to take.

I am not wery clear as to wht u r looking for when u ask u shld go for syd..but let me put it in this way. Syd MMS is definitely possible. If you put syd mms as second option, it does not make any sense to put Well/ KJ as 3rd option. Put Syd PG as the 3rd option.

Bottomline is that you are an MBA from X college. If you think Syd is better than KJ/ Wel (as you evidently do), maximise your chances of getting into Sydenham by putting PG as the 3rd option.

Hostel seats are allocated on 'first come first serve' basis, without execption. So, make sure you apply for hostel seats as soon as you take admission.

As for the website, our new director Mr. Khan is very keen on the website and has actively pushed for its development. We are keeping our fingers crossed

We do have an official websit and it is under construction since a long time due to the typical govt procedures in implementing the same. our media committee is working on it to get it done asap but govt procedures take time. the idea behind the google pages site is to help students know more about the college in absence of official site. i am sure Vinod who is the media committee member will agree with this.
we really look forward to get it up be4 the option forms fill up.

regd hostel arrangement, there r two hostels reserved for Sydenham students by the govt, one is IY and second is GCH i.e jus behind college on "C" Rd. In all thr are arnd 20 seats reserved in the hostel..but in case of any vacancies by other colleges the same can be offered to Syd students. for the juniors only IY hostel is offered. but in the later half of the academic yr when many seniors leave hostels, as well stds of other courses leave GCH, ppl from IY can shift to GCH.

So it may be for a couple of months tht u will have to stay @ Jogeshwari. my classmates shifted to GCH as early as feb.

meas i belive the data provided via ths site is correct. bt if it is given thru official website thn it has sm xtra authenticity.

after going thru website, i also hav one more query regarding hostel. it seems I.Y. College Hostel,Jogeshwari (East) is the only hostels for boys. so how hostel is allocated? and how many seates r there in hostels?

naah yaar....in my freind group n in thr frends also no one has got more marks thn me (i.e 146/240). i hope this situation remains same n same reflects in merit ranks. i think this will be gr8 advantage for pplz lyk us...

Given your category ...decent chance. Im not really sure about sub-categories. However, there 150+ candidates in my batch who are reserved category students.

But at 146 you probably should feel safe
