SIMS and SITM are on the same road... If they're not in the same building. You can walk from SITM to SIMS.

Extempore's just that. They'll give you a topic & ask you to speak on it. If they tell you to speak on a topic, choose one from your discussion with the panel (if its after the PI) or something you discussed in your GD/Case Study. These things will be frsh on your mind. If you prepare something and go, chances are the panel will catch that you've prepared it five seconds into the speech. Be normal, and don't speak like you're giving a speech in a conference.

Well i am new to this thread, but i have a very urgent query that how long the whole process will take as my GD/ PI is on 11th 1 pm and next day on 12th i have SIIB in Blr ( 9 am )... last flight from Pune to Blr is at 6:30 pm and can any one tell me how far is institute from Airport and how long it will take considering the traffic, will all the stuff get over by 4 - 4: 30, so that i can return to Blr well in time for the next day

Just thought ill put in my few cents here...
I had successfully got through SITM last year and had rejected it as I wanted to join SIBM and had applied to SITM as an afterthought, BTW...I got a call for SIBM this time )

The selection process was the usual. A GD, for which I don't remember the topic but which predictably turned into a marketplace environ. The moderator (an old guy) did not interrupt but asked us to stop after the time was up and then asked 2 guys who did not speak for their opinions. I managed to put in 2-3 pertinent points and never shouted or was loud.

They had an extempore round after that in the same room and same set of part. and moderator. The topic was general...

The PI was a let down as it hardly lasted 4 minutes. Basic questions were asked. Why MBA in TM? Current role...etc..

I don't want anyone to assume that I did not join because the institute is not good. They have a good placement record this time with the highest salary arnd 6 lakhs and average 4.

1)If U keep a magnet on a table for 100 years, n measure its total weight n total energy before n after, in a completely non-magnetic environment, what do U think will be the change...

2)Why do U wanna join telecom sector...N Why only SITM..

3) U haf fantastic extra-curriculars in Public speaking, Haf U ever thought public speaking as a full blown career?

4)Ditto question abt Table Tennis(Had mentioned that I was State champion,Inter University and Zonal champion..)

5)How does a mobile phone work?
6)Why do we need to divide the area into Cells...That too in hexagonal shape?
7)Many foollow up questions in these topics, testing detailed fundas in Mobile Communications.....Needless to mention here since I was asked these coz I WANTED my PI to be Technical oriented, so I made my CV accordingly.Please do not be intimidated, I doubt that Qn no.6 n 7 will be asked to any non-EC engineer!It is not possible to answer them otherwise...

9)USA is such a big economy, still we are talking about India as the fastest economies, don't U think there is a paradox??

Well I wud partially agree with Procks when he says that there is no hard n fast rule that they prefer only Engineers...
But on the other hand, people in for systems specialization will definately get an edge if they are from a technical background, and rightly so...

For marketing and finance, it is quite enuf if U are well aware with a few basics of telecom, and well versed with our economy, its tilt towards telecom and other telecom related data...

NO...Girls do not need to wear Sarees in GD/PI..I had a girl in our batch who was in a MINI-skirt...Was'nt able to believe my eyes...She was selected too(Was an eye candy though:-) )
But don't overdo the formal stuff as well....A good salwaar suit or a business suit will do just fine....Just carry yourself with confidence, wherever U go, n not only in SITM, U will clear every interview of life.

I will post a list of Telecom related questions on Monday..Gotta go n get my bus rite now, otherwise will miss it.

Well I don't really know how one prepares for an extempore, except by reading a lot.Topics given are sometimes abstract n sometimes general.So what U can do is..
1)Try reading a lot of Hindu n India today
2)When U are given a topic to chose from, take the one upon which U haf a fair idea n an opinion of Urs(Not some crammed line from a sadist author..:-))
3)Take the 3-4 minutes which U are given before speaking, for re-organising Ur thoughts and picking a suitable opening and a punching ending.Even if U say crap in between by chance, U won't be penalised if Ur ending is dramatic
4)Try to be eloquent n full of confidence in Extempore.

Lemme throw some light for the SITM procedures..
1)U are put onto a big room where U shall know about Ur batch n its progressive status..
2)They started with a GD then..Topic was normal.Good communication skills and 2-3 opportunities to speak for 1/2 a minute, with valid points will get U thru this stage.
3)Panel members informally discuss the GD after it has commensed n that is a good time to build up Rapport.
4)Immediately after this ends, U are given no time at all..Extempore starts.
5)U are given 3 topics outta which U hafta select 1 for speaking for 3-4 minutes.Topics are quite easy, ranging from abstract to philosophical to General..I chose the one which said:"History is a mirror to the future" or something like that.Again, thinking on Ur feet required since U are given just 3-4 minutes(till the participant be4 U completes..!!).So be ready..
6)Then comes a wait for 4-5hrs for PI(Might be lesser this time..Pack Ur lunch with U)
7)PI...Mainly depends upon what U haf written in Ur form, n what U open Ur mouth abt in first 5 minutes..My interview was all on technical grounds with very inteligent questions upon physics and telecommunication being put.
Usually this PI ranges from 15 minutes-30mins...Mine was for an Hour..
Panel is extremely intelligent, do not try to bluff Ur way through..!!

Prepare answers to general qns like Y MBA?Y from SITM n all that...
Ya, utilize Ur seniors to the full.U won't get a more co-operative lot in any B-skool, I think....They conducted a mock interview for me, U know!!

guys i would love to give detail of my exp. but first let result come out and then quote my experience. till then guys opted for mkting- refresh for difft strategy to mkt telecom product and service and for system - refresh telecom course.

well guys mine score is 65. so heart beat is fast after reading above post. but anyway .
about last year cut off. it was 58. i missed it by one marks. mine was 57. but then after first few round of gd/pi. they called another 100 students on score 57. so i was called for gd/pi in second list, but eventually not able to convert the call. so lets see it this time.

Me also quite tensed.Managed only 60.5

My stream -Electronics & Communication .Wud all these b likely considered b4 giving a call?Bcoz as far as I no only SCMHRD gives importance 2 these things.Hey junta,plz clarify.
