For the general category, if you are under 1500, you have decent chances.


However, it is my personal observation that once you secure a call, your convert does not depend much on your rank. A person with the lowest rank has as much a chance of conversion as one with AIR 1.

Hi,

As already mentioned, some companies might set cut-offs for academics which is generally the same for all campuses they visit.

So, whichever college you go to, try getting good grades there and strongly highlight other aspects of your profile(work ex, certifications, EC etc...) and you should be able to do well in placements.

Hi

Every company has different criteria which includes academics, specialization, work experience & engg background.

Although there is a minimum cut off limit set by some companies for academics (mainly PSU's) but that is generally kept very low and almost all students are eligible.

Having said that, decent academics is always a plus point.

Since the organizing Institute for JMET changes every year it is nearly impossible to predict the paper by looking at previous papers.

The selection procedure is based on Group discussion, Personal Interview, JMET RANK and the overall profile of the student. Therefore, JMET rank matters even after you get shortlisted for GD.

The sanctioned batch strength at IIT kanpur is 66 but there is no obligation to fill up all the seats and only the deserving candidates are admitted to the management programme. The current batch size is 42.

The paper was quite simple last year, hence you find the score unbelievable. If its tough, its tough for everybody , and vice versa.

I dont have information about the lowest rank, as I said before, but yes, at a rank of 7000, in all likelihood an OBC candidate can get a call, as these ranks are across categories (General + SC/ST + OBC).

So, even though the student you are talking about got an overall AIR of 7000, what matters is the number of OBC students ahead of him.

Taking the economic slowdown into consideration, the lowest salary offered last year, i.e. for the batch of 2009 was 5.3 lpa.

Last year 35521 (Source : Official JMET Score Card ) students appeared for JMET. There is a high probability of this number going up this year

Sectional cutoffs are never disclosed in JMET. The IITs just inform you if you are eligible to apply to the IITs or not. This eligibility depends on the sectional cutoffs.

As far as my score is concerned, I secured an all india rank of 631 at a score of 81.25/120, and got almost equal scores in all 4 sections (19,20,21,21.25)

Hi Jishnu,

1) Fee structure is approx 35000 per semester(multiply by 4). Only thing excluded is the mess bill.
2 and 3) Scores are not relevant, as they will change with the pattern. Ranks I have already answered in a previous post.

After CAT i am getting 13 days, what sort of preparation is required to crack jmet,please guide me.
1. If i dont do higher mathematics,will i be able to cross cut offs in quant section?
2. I don't have very good vocab,but I can do RC's well and few grammer ques,is this enough to cross cutoffs in RC?
3. What is the level of ques in reasoning section compared to CAT?

Also plz tell approx cut off for IIT Kanpur.

Generally, JMET was known to have a strictly typical quant section, and easier-than-CAT RC and DI sections. Due to this, Quant cutoffs used to go really down under, and used to be the single largest deciding factor on calls.

Last year, JMET was a complete surprise, with 3 hours and a comparatively much easier Quant section. Thus the focus straightaway shifted to speed, as for approximately 80/120, ppl got ranks in 700.

My take would be: focus on speed, and do a little bit of differentials and integrals to be on the safe side. Dont neglect RC and DI altogether ! :D

IIT cutoffs are never disclosed: u dont get a rank if you dont clear all cutoffs. When u get a rank, IITK usually calls upto 1200 rank in the GD PIs.

IIT Kanpur has tie ups with a lot of universities due to the technological courses offered here. These universities occasionally also offer management level courses.

The management program has a tieup with a german university, from which we receive exchange students (currently 1 german student is pursuing a semester over here). However, nobody from the current two batches studying here has gone abroad as part of an exchange program.

I will surely keep you posted if there is any new development on this front.
