I am reading your quotes offlate and I disagree with you on this issue.Now i love the English language but I also love the HINDI language too.Your overall tone of the quote suggests , that u consider them to be simpletons .Though I am a city slicker i tend to get along well with most of the people here.Please remember that most of the people in Mumbai are immigrants, so Mr Ver 2.0, Minor irritations are a part and parcel of life but by your continuous criticism you are not endearing yourself to the masses..... Moreover if you feel that ur colleagues are a bunch of fools and their intellectual level does not match your intellectual level then PLEASE LEAVE IBSM.

Call me a cynic if you want to but the views posted are mine and I beleive in what I write. I definately dont mean to say that the place is made up of a bunch of fools but its not a place which would automatically improve your intellect. It is an interesting observation that someone once made that most proponents of socialism advocate equality of men but it normally equality only when provided with a level playing field.
I dont mean to be rude but these were some of my obervations and I write what I beleive. btw, you do bring a valid point by asking me to leave. I somehow did start thinking on those lines a week back and the more I think about that the better the proposition seems to be.Meanwhile I love any kind of non verbal debate as it seldom gets dirty if concerned parties are from the same plane and are exposed to the same situation. I dont want to get into a city vs village debate here as I myself dont beleive in these concepts. Even though I have never been to an Indian village I have always beleived them to have exceptional quality of life and some the top institutions in the country are located in the remotest corner's of the country. Another interesting point that came to my mind is the amount of interaction that I have had with guys outside Bombay (yeah I still call it Bombay) and this is definately not the first one. I have been exposed to all sorts of people when I worked and a big % of my friends were from GOA, Leeds and some north Indian cities and I never had any issues getting along with any of them. My schooling was from a convent and I was bought up in a situation in which raising your voice or interrupting someone was considered to be extremely rude and as an act of showing disrecpect. It was probably my bad luck that I had the same bunch of friend who studied with me at school were a part of my junior and senior colleges which probably led my mind to beleive that English is the 1st language for education and later the environement that I worked supported these facts that my mind had created. This is the first time that I am looking at an entire educational institution communicating in Hindi to such an extent that some profs also at one point time were starting to use hindi equivalent of number's which was somethink unimaginable to me. I never said I consider anyone as a simpleton. That would be the biggest understatement I 'll ever make. I am probably the weakest in acads in our entire college and I wont be surprised if my scores reflect. I realized that the only strong point that I have is IT which I can probably say with certain confidence that I'll be able to confidently secure an A if there was a test tommorow but I am aware of the fact that I can get an "E" in all the other subjects.
The point that I was trying to make is the associability that you can have with other. I have always beleive in making good friends and I dont beleive in best friends and not so good friends. For me a friend is anyone who respects you and you respect that person. I am open to friendship at any given time or any given location and my mind also accepts this fact but it also looks for some qualities so to as are very basic.
Bottomline : minus my cribbing it is simply the fact that I am finding it hart to digest that inspite of English medium education I struggle to understand the widespread use of hindi or use of an english accent that is difficult to understand..

I hate to say this but there is no clear solution to this problem. I guess the root of this problem is coz of too many students in a small campus and I feel that IBS-M probably has the largest student density. The huge figure in student density gives a literally zero personal space which many especially the ones from villages find difficult to digest and tread on space meant for other's.
Another possible reason is that most of these guys dont understand how to socialize without making a fool of yourself. We dont shake hands everyday with frnds but most of the ppl feel that shaking hands is only way to let other know that you are really concerned. Point to be noted is that most of these villager's consider it rude if you do not shake hands.
Groupism and Marginalism : The biggest factor of the lot. I am sure in every class only 10% of the class actually understand how to truly socialize with other's. The "clan" of english speaker's is so less that it all of us could stand in a bus stop without getting noticed.The amount of english speaking populace seems to be 2% of the total strength (lenient consideration) . I personally have been a great beleiver in the fact that English can be used to drive a certain amount of "civil" behavior as it teaches you control your tone, pitch and allows you to use tools like sarcasm which are definately better than shouting your throat out which most of our local languages seem to preach.
I am not sure if there is anything concrete that can be done to solve your problem as most of these kids fail to understand even the basic public behavior's. There was an interesting incident that happened yesterday which can be used to illustrate my point. We had a soft skills session in which all of us were asked to write an application which was later assesed by forming different groups. My group was the English speaking groups or I can say there was a tilt toward maturity among all the group member's and we very gleefully rated the other letter's giving them a max of 8 and a min of 7 out of 10 ignoring most of the crap that we found in the letter. Much to our surprise we found that our letter was rated by a bunch of n00bs who very lovingly gave us a max of 6 and a min of 3. I am sure that the language I used was probably not even understood by the n00bs who were assessing our papers!

I would be honestly surprised if any of our friends would even know how to use it to start talking about "optimizing the laptop". I havent met a single good programmer in ICFAI who can be a inspiration for other's to get into the mode you start thinking of a proper optimization strategy. A stark fact is the treatment of the entire laptop issue which I am sorry to is a reflection of the culture of participants of the PG program of IBS. Even though I use the term "participants" and "program" I am sure that nothing of that sort reflects when I step into the actual college. The place could be more aptly be defined as a "school" comprising of "450 kids" whose only aim is to outsmart other's by shouting on top of their voices and making a fool of themselves and view it as a school and a placement office.
On the subject of the weight of the laptop let me point out that D510 weighs around the industry average and is around 5.2 lbs which is much lesser than Rhino's, Sony's, Thinkpad's and Panasonic.
I am not sure as to how to propose to use your computer in college as there are no facilities for charging your batteries. One of the major strengths of the 510 is its battery life but I am not sure if it can last your class duration and there is no wi-fi which means no connectivity. Also looking at the condition of our lecture I am not sure if a laptop can actually serve as a "value add".

I agree with ver 2.0's post.i have seen the laptop and it is preety good.The only drawback is it is too heavy to carry and I have serious doubts whether I will be able to bring it to college daily,but it will be of immense help in projects.the challenge is to make the optimum utilisation of the machine and extract themaximum out of the laptop.

No one can help you make a carrer choice. It is one thing which you are responsible, you pay for the same and you enjoy the fruits later. A small suggestion for you from me would be to improve your communication skills which can be done easily by joining a call center and working there for 2 odd years . This kind of experience would teach you some nitty gritty's of working in the IT industry and you would also be a wiser person when it comes to making a carrer choice.Look at the different course offering and the methodologies. Once you zero in on a course speak to ex-students/participants to verify the claims of the course. Read some reviews about the same.
MBA and entrepreneurship are two different entities altogether and dont confuse the same. There is no minimum qualification to start a company and an MBA wont teach you how to start a company. I would suggest a hardcore course in programming like the one offered by IsquareIT Pune , ot MET Mumbai. If you are thinking of forming a network during your MBA course then forget ICFAI and look elsewhere. I am a great admirer of ICFAI's ditance education but have not had a good experience with the MBA campus program and supposedly belonging to the better half of ICFAI campuses.

I would like to meet anyone who is a part of pagalguy and is studying in ICFAI as most of ICFAI's PGDBA programs participants are not too socially active or probably do not understand the socially required ettiquites required in social life.Hence according to my reasoning any person who is a part of pg knows how to look for 'stuff' on the internet and that is a "skill" you learn only by putting in a lot of efforts and more importantly being a part of "English Speaking" online community instills a lot of disciplene and positive thinking among us.Each and every post in a public discussion baord needs to be thought before the actual "posting" process which means you are sharpening your brain cells and you are "accepting" other people's view's and learning to debate with them.
Anyway's let me stop my cribs and state some facts.
Name: Dont think this is the right kind of place to shout my name off.
I am part of IBS-Mumbai (yeah they call it Mumbai and not Bombay when I reach college) so technically speaking to meet each other you would need to come to Bombay or I would have to come to Hyderabad. I have been to Hyderabad once for my interviews and its not a place I would like to visit in near future so theoratically the probablity of you meeting me is equal to the probability of you coming to Bombay.
btw, do let us know how's life in Hyd and if it is providing you with any sort of ROI on your investments :-)

The laptops are good. It is simply the fact that most guys in Mumbai have not recognised the the true potential of the laptop. Dell is one of the best computer manufacturers and have made a name in quality. I have been associated with dell for sometime and let me tell you dell takes all its customer's very seriously.I even heard some rumors in the campus that dell had stopped manufacturing lattitudes.I had literally burst laughing as it showed the kind of crowd we have had @ IBS campuses.
We are all aware and pretty much agree with the fact that ICFAI is awesome when it comes to distance learning and has a long way to go before it can convert its status in distance learning to Campus learning. However because of its expretise in distance learning it has got a good collection of books, study material and other subsidary items associated with the course. True to ICFAI tradition the laptop is definately a world class product and use it carefully. Advise all those who cant use it to consult guys who know what the machine can do.
btw, I am interested in knowing how are acads in different campuses. I saw in my student handbook a new elective called Business Intelligence.
Also does anybody have any clue about student exchanges of ICFAI

vinyak , none of the colleges that u mentioned are upto the mark , so if possible try IBSAT ... CAT and othe exams ... remember .......the presence of one successful person in the family does not guarantee the success of the other too .... likewise ... only IBS HYDERABAD , MUMBAI , GURGAON AND .. KOLKATA are good . the other courses .. are just okay....

as for your choice of course is concerned ..... i think u shd better decide yourself as to what you want to be in future ......... MCA is not a bad choice too ..... provided u like software coding etc.

MBA as for education is just about understating your curriculum .... whereas ....on the work front it is all about ... using your business acumen and sixth sense.

so decide yourself ..

Pretty similart scenario at IBS Mumbai too. Huge bunch of books, classes start in full swing, assignments being hurled at us, 2 tests in next 15 days, some case presentations to be done as well.
btw, Mumbai has a student strength of 435.

classes at ICFAI HYD have started ..

first class was a welcome change .. quantitative methods .. since the engineers did not have any quants classes in the quantitative classes in the prep classes, so most of us took to quants like a fish to water..

and yeah our accounts teacher was good too ... he is clear in his approach: he wants us to come up with our expectations for the entire semester. he even gave us some plain white sheets so that we can write down our DEMANDS or so to say .. EXPECTATIONS .. which is a good move.

and lastly we had an IT class which was not bad..

this year IBS has made it sure not to club together too many students with the same name or same background. for example ours is a composite group with 20 BCOM ., 35 BTECH.. and around 10-15 science and BBA guys .. ...

we have been divided into groups of 6 or 7 ..so that we can make presentations in the class.

the accounts group must have 2 b com and 4 non commerce students.

had registration today...got another set of books??: ....the worst part is carrying those around once u get them ....program structure is the same as that in hyd....8 course in 1st sem...33 sessions for each course.....with an attendence of 75%:wow: ....terminal exams from 24th to 29th sep....waiting for tomorow to see the actual classes....n meet the seniors .....as of now neatly stacked the books along with the last set thats still kept untouched:) ....ppl from gurg...post post pleegeee

its hasmukhlaal rom hyd. life's not dat bad after all, but i somehow dint find ppl bloggin so often now that the classes hav started. anyways, d classes r ok. v jus finished the prep classes yesday and today is the registration date. a sem of 16 weeks and shall get an off from 23rd sep to 9th oct 2006. obviously the exams shall end of 23rd sep. got 8 papers, i guess all this mus b pretty same wid other campuses also, life @ new campus hasnt started yet, v'v been accomodated in the icfai tech campus, there's much ho-ha about 'infrastructure' but i find that for a temperory facility its pretty ok, i mean v dint come here to sleep in ac-rooms in the first place...faculties r good, getting a lot of books today, lappy wil b given in the new campus itself n v shall shift prob in july 1st week. presently v got tripply occupance in double occ. rooms and in new one shall get double in single occ. rooms, but its better in a way s v make good friends. s for me its a first exp of a hostel life and m beginnin to love it.

this was jus to update wats happening here...n pl. keep blogging junta! wud lov to hear abt other campuses, esp. b'lore, gurgaon, mum...

Well sunita !! There is nothing to post as such because the prep lectures are a big BORE ! The whole lectures are Bakwaas with absolutely no value addition.People bunk the preps here to freak out and have fun.Over all people are not that serious.

In addition to the books we hv also got 4CDs here in Mumbai(u must hv also got it i believe)....wanted to update the forum on it,y'da we had the concluding day of National Mngmt Games org by AIMA(although we were nt involved in it)& the chief guest was.....the CEO of Relaince Retail,,,was a shrt session bt was certainly educative...

Just finished my 1st day's prep classes of my PGDBA program.
Here's a quick review

1. Batch size is 450 , whew!!I was expecting not more than 250 guys in the batch.
   
2. The batch of 450 is divided into seven sections of 50 guys each.(We have been told that there could be even more joining after the prep classes are over , bad news...)
   
3. Prep classes do not seem to be very hectic . We have two classes everyday . Classes start @ 9.30 in the morning and end @ 04.30 pm. We have a 1 hr:15min break in between the sessions.
   
4. Our batch started off with a softskills class. Overall the prof was o.k however my view of participants of the program was further strengthened. I am yet to talk to single colleague in my batch (bad ) . Batch consists mainly of guys from North India. 3 + guys incl. yours truly have some real work ex.
   
5. Age of class : my estimate is 24 which makes me one of the youngest of the batch ( :lol)
   
6. Infrastructure of the college can be considered o.k. We have 2 building in the heart of city with good environs and a peaceful location. College shares its campus with biggies of the corporate world like Nirlon, Nicholas Piramal, e-serve, Jet air. Our campus is adjacent to UPS Jet air.College has a decent computer lab and a good library ( very imp as I could be spending a lot of time bunking lectures). Negatives : No canteen. But there are places in the campus where you can get a cheap meal. And if you are a richie rich then there are some costlier restraunts just outside. Classrooms are air conditioned (so to say) , IT lab looks ok but I am used to looking at flat screens now and me wont use their computer but will prefer to wait for my laptop. Rest rooms are good but some idiots dont know how to use the flush. Good provisions for drinking water as well.
   
7. Second session was a talk by some placement officials and a o.k sort of a session. Some statistics were provided which was accepted by the class. Some intelligent questions were asked and they got their reply and a lot of unintelligent ones too were asked.
   
8. Class ended at 16.15 after which we had to go to the library to collect our study material. Not a good sight with 450 odd guys waiting for their turn. Anyways , I was succesful after a 45 min wait (not too bad by Bombay standards).
   
9. Good no. of books and after carrying them home I decided to forego my work outs for the day.
   
10. Now for the good part - We have been provided with CD's normally given to distance learning guys with some recorded lectures et.al. :)
    
11. Looks like the prep classes are a 6 day / week affair

Try mailin them.ICFAI has a bunch of helpful folks and if you send them a nice msg they will reply with a nice msg.
btw, we had a lot of guys in mumbai without the registration letter so guess it is ok for now.

i knw the decision abt the change ...was a tough one..but uppl are joing banglore and hyd...these campuses are really good..but icfai ahmedabad and bimtech..thn i felt bimtech wud be better bet..and bimtech program will also be approved by aicte as per the seniors i spoke... plus i thght abt joinig the retail course... as i ws interested in doing retail as its really an upcomning sector...
intially i had thght if i get gurgaon, mumbai, hyd thn no way bimtech..but thn mrmm is going to be good bet...specially bimtech being in the ncr region..it has good good placements..companies like pantaloons and dlf came this year...so i think its going to be good..plus am spending half the money here...compared to icfai...icfai ahmedabad..

I think u choose d right option........but like to tell u dat its not true that u hv 2 spend half d money compared 2 ICFAI.......as one of my frnd doing his PGDBM there so as per my knowledge its around 7 lacs...........so more than ICFAI.........neway all d best

ya the cost for pgdbm course fee is 4.85 plus the hostel and food...so it comes to 7 laks..
but my mrmm course is 3.85 plus hostel and food... its comes to 5 lakhs...

in icfai..the fees itself is 5 85.. plus the food and hostel and living expense..and travelling back home... would have made me spend close to 8 laks may be more.. so kust saved a few laks..

1st day xperience of prep class

woke up in d morng ........xcited......as d 1st class was case study......reached d inst. by 9.10am........waited at d classroom 4 d teacher.......10 minutes gone.........20 mnts gone........ d whole 1 hr 15 mnts gone.........nobody came........1st day 1st class was off.......only sec F in our flr got their 1st class........n got a project to do.......cant understand what happen to our class......11 am....2nd class was QM..(quantitative method).......d teacher came briefed on d subject n took a introduction round........12.45...went 4 lunch........d canteen was not in our building its in d 1st ICFAI building...it was good...clean n clear........but no supply of food........disgusting........3rd class again off..............4th class was Introduction 2 A/C.......learned once again debit ..credit...concepts..n all dat...........classes over....

one thing is 4 sure this prep classes r not so tough n u dont feel ne pressure.........this 1 mnth is 4 making new frnds..............

even i got call from bimtech but my institute sugest me to join icfai hyd. because it is much better than bimtech

Wednesday is totally off atleast 4 d prepatory classes........dont no abt other campuses its 4 KOl campus........we will get new routine after 16yh May.........

First day xperience in IBS kol

Finally d day came..........
today was our welcome briefing........we were informed 2 report in diff. slots.........Mine was 2.30pm-4pm......Prof.S.Roy n two other faculty member gave their speeches.......we were told to brng one updated CV,mentioning blood grp n chronic disease,if any n 1 passport size photograph..........came 2 knw d batch strength of 2006-08 is 443 for IBS kol.........got few new frnds,we visit d building where our classes will b taken 4rm tomorrow..............nice classrooms ........we are provided with our class routine........classes will b 4rm 9.30am-5pm.............1hr 15 minutes of duration.........wednesday has no class.............Monday to saturday...........

so all d best to all of u .........d journey will begin 4rm 2morrow.........
