Cut offs are 77..
It used to be 93 what i came to know from some sources..

Any specific reason for lowering of cut offs..

1. Cut off was 93 for the batch of 2009-2011 i,e 3 years ago.

2. Cut off purely depends on the performance of the students in XAT who have applied to GIM. So it may vary year to year.

3. One reason I can understand for the lowering of cut off is the batch size which got doubled from the batch of 2010-2012. Hence a cut off 85.37 for that batch.

4. For 2010-2012, around 1500 calls were given and there were 12,199 applicants to GIM.

5. For 2011-2013, 1709 calls were given and there were around 6000 applicants to GIM. Hence even further low cut offs (77.15).

6. So there can be lot many factors affecting the cut offs. Hope this helps.

Last year the cut off of all the XAT colleges went down due to toughness of the XAT paper. XLRI cut off was 92-93 and that of XIMB was 93.

1. I would request everybody to PLEASE go through at least the latest 5 pages of the thread before posting a query. Most of your queries will already be answered.

2. I would also like to request everybody to go through the website of the college also once.

3. XAT and CMAT will have different candidate lists coming out at different times.

4. Candidates will be interviewed only once. If they clear the cut off for XAT they will be called for the XAT interview only and not the CMAT interview even if they qualify through CMAT. And while calculating the final score the better of the two scores will be considered.

5. XAT students will go for interview in their preferred choice of location while CMAT students have to come to Goa for interview.

6. The normalization of CMAT and XAT will be decided by the college and nobody will be informed about the procedure of that.

7. As far as sectionals go, we are expecting the trend of last year to continue. But we never know what might happen. The college has every right to change decision without informing.

8. As far as selection of students is concerned it depends on a lot of factors and the entrance exam has nothing to do with it. If the college finds out that CMAT candidates are not upto the quality set, as far as profile and score is concerned then they might not take anyone from CMAT.

9. PG has predicted 24 as a cut off for GIM. Generally PG predictions are pretty close to reality. So candidates around that 24 range and above start preparing for GD/PI

Last year, the cutoff was around 77%ile. So if you're getting something close to that, you should get a call.

I hope CMAT is not being treated like ATMA last year when only 4 people were called for GD/PI

For those who din't do well in XAT, CMAT is the last hope..

1. Don't worry. If there would be quality students through CMAT, no institute would mind giving a call to them.

I don't think the results for both of them are going to come separately.

The final list will come out once all the shortlisted candidates(both XAT and CMAT) are interviewed.

Most of the things have been told by SUMYRULES. To add few pointers,

1. XAT Shortlist would come as scheduled which is even before the CMAT Exams.

2. GD/PI for XAT Applicants would be held as per earlier schedule only.

3. When CMAT shortlist comes, those who have already attended won't be called for GD/PI again and only fresh candidates would be called.

4. Hope everything is clear now.

NO

Suppose a person has cleared both the cut-offs then, he would be called for the
XAT GD-PI only and while preparing the final merit list, the best of XAT/CMAT scores are considered.

Suppose a person has cleared only XAT and not CMAT, he would be called for the XAT GD-PI and CMAT scores are not considered for Final Selection.

What if someone gets cutoff through both XAT and CMAT?????
Will he have 2 gd's nd 2 pi's?????
So chances of conversion double???

They are again mis managing things.. They have started giving gd/pi calls from 1st Feb to CAt applicants. Don't know what they are doing..

NO
The GD/PI of XAT candidates will take place separately from CMAT candidates. If you go through the website of the thread you will find that mentioned. Also GD/PI of CMAT candidates will take place only in GOA while XAT test takers have a lot of options for the interview center.

My sister took XAT this year and she is expecting a score between 22-24. How much percentile would this score make? Also, is the cut-off for GIM around 24 marks this year? Because this is what I have been reading everywhere.

Difficult to predict percentiles right now. The 24 cut off is predicted by PG and generally PG does a pretty good prediction. So everybody is going by that trend only.

NO.

You need not do anything. GIM takes the XAT scores of all the applicants from XLRI. That is why it takes around 2 weeks to announce the shortlist.

1. The procedure was similar to XAT. You had to register online. But the last date to apply through CMAT was 7th Jan.

2. I hope you have applied through XAT. All the best for XAT Results.

GIM has been giving profile based calls since last 2 years, can't comment what it will do this time but most probably it should continue the trend.

Apart from work ex, as i mentioned in the previous post, Marks of 10th/12th/Grads , Duration of work ex, Quality of work ex, College of Graduation, Graduation Back Ground, etc are also taken into consideration for giving calls.

AFAIK GIM calls usually come out in the 3rd week. This time also it might be the same.

Also there is a decent gap between the two dates around 1-2 weeks.

It has been quite a long time I have come on PG to write something . I tried 2-3 times but it seems i have forgotten the knack of writing and responding to the queries .Or rather I think I wasn't needed this time . And the credit goes to the PGP1s Avinash ,Siddharth ,Ishmeet ,Tanmoy ,Abhishek ,Prithivraj ,Tushar, Amit ( sorry if i missed any names) who are handling it. I have been observing this thread continually and really appreciate the way , hard work ,the coordination and the dedication with which these guys have been responding to coming batch of 2012-14 . Being there last time , i know how much time and patience it takes to respond to the queries .
Also appreciate the way admission application process went , we (GIM) learnt from it's last year's mistake .Hope you guys wouldn't have faced many issues this time .It is just the beginning and a long way to go . I am sure these people will definitely help you with the funniest queries till the time you land up in GIM.

From what I think, as soon as the XAT results come out, the GDPI procedure for candidates through XAT will begin, and as and when the CMAT results are released, the GDPI procedure for that would be conducted. But this is just what I think, the actual procedure could be different. But at any rate, I don't think the applicants through XAT will be made to wait till the CMAT results.

1. GIM is taking only XAT and CMAT scores for the batch of 2012-14.

2. But we are very sorry to say that now the registration stands closed for GIM. All the best for other colleges.

As stated above, 10% weightage is given to work ex for the final convert. For giving a call, the overall profile is considered. Duration of work ex, Quality of work ex, College of graduation, Marks scored in 10th/12th/Grads etc.. may be the various things considered for giving a call.
E.G One scoring 95+ percentile and a fresher may not get a call and other scoring 90 but with 2 yrs work ex may get a call.. or for that matter even one wih 90 %ile and good marks throughout may get a call..

Yes, it is POSSIBLE.

The maximum marks in XAT 2011 was around 260 if I am not wrong.

The maximum marks in XAT 2012 is 100.

You are right in pointing out the difference in the difficulty level but please understand that the cutoff is just an estimation made by various sources.

The actual cutoff may vary depending on a lot of other factors. However it is really difficult to take all those factors into account.

It was possible to apply through both. But the registration for GIM through CMAT also now stands closed. 7th Jan was the last date to do so.

1. From the perspective of the interview, it would be good if you have an idea as to in which area you want to do your specialization. This would show some focus from your end. But be prepared with atleast basic understanding on the sector, if you choose to do so. From the college perspective, you will have ample time to choose your majors and minors, as already iterated in the earlier posts. Many people have a particular notion about a particular specialization, and for many a person your summer internship would be an eye opener , to decide if you indeed want to go for that major.

2. Your summer internship doesnt dictate, the sector in which you would get your final placement. you have an option to choose your majors and minors post your internship, and your placements would in all probability be in either of these (depends on comapnies as mentioned in an earlier post).

In my case, I interned with Novartis in the HR domain , my majors & minors were Marketing & HR respectively and currently I work in the Consulting domain at Infy !!

Adding to what Avinash said I would say that it would be nice if you can have some idea of specialization in your mind and the reason behind choosing it as you might be asked about this during the interviews. But you need to choose your majors and minors only before the fourth term
Also I would reiterate what Avinash said about final and summer placements. It is possible that you end up with a job in a different field than to what you had done your summers.

2. NO. Nothing negative here. Be ready to justify though regarding your job in IT despite being a mechanical engineer.

1. NO. Students are not expected to know what major and minor they would opt for at the time of PI. You would realise it yourself with time before going into 4th Term.

2. Recruitment procedure varies with company to company. You would come to know about that when you come to college. And YES, irrespective of the sector in which you do your summer intern, you can choose your majors and minors as specialisation of your choice and get final placements in the sector of your choice.

IMT-G is taking XAT scores for the first time. So commenting on whether this %ile could fetch a call or not won't be possible.

As far as CAT is concerned, last year no one got a convert for GZB at less than 94%ile.

It can't be said for sure what percentile it would fetch.

But looking at the cut offs predicted by coaching institutes, you can get anywhere around 85%ile. All the best.
