Hi All,

Goa Institute of Management has come up with its admission notification for the batch of 2012-14. So all you GIM aspirants who have been eagerly and patiently waiting for this thread to start, you could start posting your queries here. The online admission process hasn't started yet , it is just the notification. Once the online application process starts in the first week of October, we will be helping out with queries related with the process. We would try our best to help aspirants know the college better and understand what it takes to be here.

Few pointers -> How things are different from last year ->

1 .NO ATMA scores consideration this year

2. Cut-off percentiles may vary this year because last year has been different scenario because of the economy and the less number of applicants due to online admission applications issues

3. We know, last year, the admission process faced issues .GIM has taken all the issues into consideration. Last year has been an offbeat incident vis--vis admission process and in any way it doesn't undermine the credibility of the institute .

Ya it's true. Few people did get calls at as low as 80 %ile. But that doesn't mean cut off will be around that this year also. Those people had excellent profiles. And then last year Cut offs dropped for every college due to decrease in number of applications for all the exams and colleges.

adding on we have people who have been vets , physiotherapists and what not , as long as you can convince the panel on why you want to do an MBA things will turn out fine , but as said by my everyone above , for now concentrate on doing well in the entrance exam !

1.the min %ile changes year to year depending on a lot of situations. so its really difficult to pinpoint one particular %ile.
2.GIM does not accept CAT scores. the only xam that u hv to giv to gt thru GIM is XAT(from this year).and GMAT if u r an NRI or a foreign student.

@prakashrocks-> Yes ,it will be considered as work-ex .It is just that during your interview that you have to show that how MBA can add value to your career and why is it logical step in your teaching profession.

hello all. as far as work ex is considered i am working as a teacher in a school for 13 months. will they consider it as work ex????i am in great dilema and need to clear it.

See...comparing your workplace experience with what GIM has to offer is not fair I guess.........
the GIM culture is something which takes over you when you enter the campus...... And believe me you will love GIM more than you dislike Goa once you come here........

i think it will b unfair to compare life@GIM to whatever u hav xperienced working in Goa. its a whole new experience in here. even i agree life at goa is a bit slow but here we dont even get to sleep for 4 hrs. its fact,its hectic but its fun. trust me its a lifetime experience. i have been here ...

yes. absolutely. everything counts. if u r lagging behind in one area u must have some other area to make up for it. often the acads are the least important. highlight all ur strengths as much as possible. but b4 everythn else get a good XAT score!!

dude. i was in goa for 3 months earlier this year working on a mining major . i have seen GIM's old goa campus.
But my experience at my workplace in goa was so bad that i took an oath never to return to goa ever again in my life.
Now that puts me in a fix.

I have some very good extra curricular activities i have won lot of competition in my PUC the best being TCS IT QUIZ and even conducted IT Quiz at our state level events and had won zonal TCS TECH BYTES at our zone and represented our college at State. Do these have some weightage ???

a lot depends on ur XAT scores. in addition to the academics, if u have some more extra curriculars to show u will earn some brownie points. the type of company hardly matters, its ur work that matters more than the name of the company.
and we have students with scores lower than urs. its the...

For the purpose of application under the category of persons of Goan Domicile or Origin the student must satisfy any of the following: Goan Domicile: An applicant would be considered of Goan Domicile if he/she produces a domicile certificate issued by the Goa Government or documentary proof of residence/education/ employment in Goa for a period of at least 10 years. Alternatively, an adequate proof of the domicile of any one of the parents of the students for a period of at least 15 years should be provided. Goan Origin: Either one of the following conditions must be met: o An applicant or at least one of his parents or grandparents should be /have been born in Goa (documentary proof in the form of the original birth certificate has to be produced). o The applicant or his parents should have a share in ancestral property in Goa which is utilized as the familys residence or business premises. Documentary proof of this must be certified by the sub divisional magistrate or the Municipality.

phew ty god for cntrl c and cntrl v :p.. i hope that satisfies your query.. students with goan domicile will be given a relaxation of 15 percentile only (i.e if the all India cut off is 90 percentile Goan domicile candidates can expect a call at 75 percentile) however this relaxation will get you only till the gd-pi round and there is no reservation of any sort for Goan candidates.. so all u guys put your best foot forward and do well in your xat exams..All the best

i guess you will be entitled for relaxation in percentile if there is any.. but since calls are profile based we cannot comment on the relaxation in percentile

nop.. the seat count will not be increased ... its 240 at the moment... it was increased to 240 from 120 in 2010..

1) If there is a relaxation in percentile we are not made aware of it , as specified above G.I.M gives profile based calls so maybe domicile would be considered there if at all

It is too early to be worried about what the institute looks for in a candidate , prepare for the entrance first and get a good percentile ! Rest all will take care of itself in due time

Indeed last time scores were considered for giving some of the calls, but overall profile is emphasised upon for the final selection.

I Think GIM gives both profile base as well as score base calls:
BUT they give a good amount of weightage during gd/pi..for wrk ex as well as past academic records: i got 94 percentile last yr and got a call, nt able to convert it . (wth bad acads.. and no wrk ex)

GIM has been giving profile based calls since last 2 years, can't comment what it will do this time but most probably it should continue the trend.
Apart from work ex, as i mentioned in the previous post, Marks of 10th/12th/Grads , Duration of work ex, Quality of work ex, College of Graduation...

As stated above, 10% weightage is given to work ex for the final convert. For giving a call, the overall profile is considered. Duration of work ex, Quality of work ex, College of graduation, Marks scored in 10th/12th/Grads etc.. may be the various things considered for giving a call.

1. GIM used to accept only XAT score but for last year they accepted ATMA score as well and again this year only XAT scores are being considered. Calls are profile based.
