I have a similar problem. I am trying this year only for JB n PUMBA (dun actually wanna land in anything else). But I did get to know accomodation for PUMBA is still possible and very low cost. Stayin close to the college is also easy and cost convenient.

I m sure of goin only to a plce where acco is easy and the b-school is also worth joining. Missed Pumba last year...dun wanna risk it this year.??:

i want to know when will d merit list is likely to b displayed? Roughly what can be the date?

Last year the GDPI was over on 4th June and the result (provisional merit list) was out on 9th June. (However, for OMS actual merit list which matters was the list after the MAT scores were taken (option form) from 5th to 12th July and the final merit was out on 14th July.)
This year the last GDPI is on 31st May and by that count should we expect the provisional merit list somewhere between 5th to 8th June?! Guess is yours.

(whr did he get this frm)......n the judges seemed lk agreeing with him....whn i ws about to correct anothr person startd sayin som othr pt.........inspite of thm cuttin me the panelist lookkd at 2 of us........sd maintain som discipline

ya they should be knowing abt these facts..coz they r very general in nature...and good u metion the stats..u will surely get marks for it..plus in way i feel good sumone cut u off ..otherwise u would have had one to one argument with him..and which would have given u negative marks.

ya it is true...if u get any one of the top five..u won't be chosen for next set of admission...and i guess because of this the 2nd round selection..the cut off may come low too...

If in the first round, you land up in any one of ur TOP 5 OPTIONS, u will not be eligible for the next round irrespective of whether u confirm ur seat or not.

Hello friends I had my gd/pi in jbims the gd was okay but pi was great.I hav a score of 90 and 84.98 percentile.I know I dont have a chance in top 10 colleges but recently I went thru the site of Gurunanak Institute of Mgmt studies and saw their recruiters section.U can see it at http://www.gnims.com/Uploads/Our-Recruiters.pdf. Already now, 2 metres of land gets submerged under water every 5 years.

I had given many good points with examples and also with quite a few fact-figures. My point it... acc. to some people, it's better to speak till the GD time is over even if you are the only one who's speaking.

Congratulations that you fared your interview with flying colours. You deserved what you get. Your efforts paid you rich dividends. May everywhere you go in the interview the same happens and 60% of the candidates appearing for the interview suffer from diarrhoea that morning to lessen the competition for you. And you would be the only one to get their share of time in the GD to speak.

Here is my experience:

PI:

There were two panelist in PI: P1 ~ 50, P2 ~ 60

So, in all, GD and PI were the best ever I had in my life. I doubt whether my stopping speaking after 7-8 mins of GD was good or not. I knew that if I would stop, the GD will stop. But, I thought it's better to stop the GD in stead of continue speaking alone as nobody else was speaking at that time.

@all... Was it a good move? Or should I have continued the GD for 4-5 mins more?

Topic were
1. Can India become Economic Superpower?
2. Genetic Engg. for Crop does more harm that profit something like this.
Everyone choose to spoke on first topic.
2 min for jot down points
13 min for discussion(14 people were there in discussion)
1 min for summery for each of one.
Discussion started nicely, one lady started & defined what is economic superpower. Then 2nd one I spoke regarding + points of India regarding economy & -ve points of Economy.
Two points tried to convert into debate & created lots of chaos then I tried to enter 3 to 4 times in GD. Over all it was nice. Only 4 to 5 people were speaking.
PI was too cool.
As, I was having 4 years of work ex. so they asked questions on work exp.
They don't ask why MBA, tell me something about yourself nothing.
Directly they went to work ex.
Asked about my profile in companies for which i had worked.

As, I am working in branding so asked Why not MICA
Answered


Then asked How to control population
answered

asked about Kargil war as I had mentioned in paper regarding prominent event in last decade in India
told them


Asked regarding difference between Ecommerence & E business
Not aware

Here is my experience:

Center: Commerce Faculty, Shivaji University, Kolhapur

GD:

The panel told us to select one topic.

GD Topic : (1) *I don't remember :neutral:* (2) Quota in private sector

There were 12 people scheduled to come in my group but only 5 turned up :nervous:. After the panel said that these two are the topics, everybody started saying that we want to discuss the second topic without discussing among ourselves :neutral:.

The panel instructed that first we need to speak on the topic for a minute and then we should start the discussion and then one of us should give a conclusion.

After that the GD started and I was almost the only person speaking . But I did stop and give others chance whenever others tried to speak, but unfortunately only two ladies speak and that too only 3-4 lines. I continued to speak for almost next 4-5 mins. Then I stopped, because I thought I had spoken enough. But, even after that the others didn't speak at all.

But then there prevailed silence :robot:. And the panel intervened and said that we need to maintain continuity. There shouldn't be gap in between :neutral:.

I again started speaking but nobody except me spoke after that at all (except that 2 of them could speak a single sentence each which they could when I gave them a chance when they tried to speak when I was speaking). After 7-8 minutes, I stopped and the GD ended. (I could have continued but I thought it would be bad if I continue speaking as I had already spoken enough for about 5-6 minutes :satisfie:). I stopped everytime anybody tried to speak. But unfortunately that didn't happen quite often. Except one girl, the remaining three people were not very comfortable with English.

After that, the panel told us to summerise. I told others if any of others want to conclude (as I had already got enough of air-time :satisfie:) but nobody came forward. And I also concluded the topic. In all, I talked for around 6 mins out of 8 mins :neutral:

Hi, for the most significant event that affected India, I had written about the communications revolution heralded as a result of opening the country to foreign players, Unless you are absolutely sure of convincing the panel about what you have written, i think it is safe to write about something like liberalisation, since it has been beaten to death, the interviewers might just skip that question and move to something more important like "What in your opinion should be done to make India a super power" where you can showcase your ideas, creative thinking, probably quote statistics to bolster your answer and end up impressing(hopefully) the panel :), there is also a question which asks you: "what makes u think that you will be a sucessful manager", Instead of writing your experiences in detail here you could just mention that you have handled a situation which required leadership/managerial qualities, tempt the panel to ask you about it, and then elaborate in detail & earn ur brownie points, I did tht n it worked for me!

My GD/PI was conducted at Welingkars today, the topics given were:
1) Value based Politics.
2) Religion shouldn't be mixed with Politics.

Since this was a CET GD, no points for guessing which one was selected!
There were only 7 people in my group, the group started with defining religion, politics etc. some of the points tht were brought up were Babri Masjid, recent Bomb blasts, Mayawati, Islamic fundamentalism, made the mistake of stating that they should not be mixed so didn't give any points against it, a good one could have been about how the Church and Monarchy went hand in hand during the medieval times in Europe, also the crusades, everyone got an opportunity to speak, even those from vernacular backgrounds, since I had already hogged a lot of talk time, didn't think it very wise to cut people short even when they kept repeating points! All in all was a very thanda GD, the topic had a lot of potential but wasn't exploited.

The PI was very chilled out as well, I was asked about work, about the SEZ policy of the govt., Why not do an MBA abroad, Why did Mayawati win the elections :wow Also asked to justify my answers that I had written in the questionnaire.

Wasn't gr8 but wasn't bad either, btw the staff at Welingkars was very helpful and polite, they immediately put me to ease and yeah the food hamper was good too :satisfie:

GD:

The panel told us to select one topic.

GD Topic : (1) *I don't remember :neutral:* (2) Quota in private sector

There were 12 people scheduled to come in my group but only 5 turned up :nervous:. After the panel said that these two are the topics, everybody started saying that we want to discuss the second topic without discussing among ourselves :neutral:.

The panel instructed that first we need to speak on the topic for a minute and then we should start the discussion and then one of us should give a conclusion.

After that the GD started and I was almost the only person speaking . But I did stop and give others chance whenever others tried to speak, but unfortunately only two ladies speak and that too only 3-4 lines. I continued to speak for almost next 4-5 mins. Then I stopped, because I thought I had spoken enough. But, even after that the others didn't speak at all.

But then there prevailed silence :robot:. And the panel intervened and said that we need to maintain continuity. There shouldn't be gap in between :neutral:.

I again started speaking but nobody except me spoke after that at all (except that 2 of them could speak a single sentence each which they could when I gave them a chance when they tried to speak when I was speaking). After 7-8 minutes, I stopped and the GD ended. (I could have continued but I thought it would be bad if I continue speaking as I had already spoken enough for about 5-6 minutes :satisfie:). I stopped everytime anybody tried to speak. But unfortunately that didn't happen quite often. Except one girl, the remaining three people were not very comfortable with English.

After that, the panel told us to summerise. I told others if any of others want to conclude (as I had already got enough of air-time :satisfie:) but nobody came forward. And I also concluded the topic. In all, I talked for around 6 mins out of 8 mins :neutral:

P1: You are BCA. Why not MCA?
Me: MCA is more of repetition of BCA and blah, blah...

Me: I have a couple of friends in MCA in DDU, Nadiad. They told me. Even I have checked the syllabus and found the same.

P1: So you are working? Where are you working and what's your designation?
Me:
P1: So, you write diary? You write in English or Gujarati?
Me: I have been writing diary for last 4 years. I have been writing it in English. For the rist 2-3 months when I started, I used to write in Gujarati
P2: Even I am also Gujarati. I am from Baroda.
Me: Okay
P2: I am impressed with your determination. Though you still have a chance to improve in your speech, your English is quite good. I am impressed with your English.
Me: Thank you, sir. I have worked hard on it.
P2: I have not seen many Gujarati students from vernacular background with as good English as yours. What have you done to improve over it?

So, in all, GD and PI were the best ever I had in my life. I doubt whether my stopping speaking after 7-8 mins of GD was good or not. I knew that if I would stop, the GD will stop. But, I thought it's better to stop the GD in stead of continue speaking alone as nobody else was speaking at that time.

@all... Was it a good move? Or should I have continued the GD for 4-5 mins more?

nah...considering no one was willing to speak, u did a good job of continuing the discussion whilst giving others a chance to speak..it was their fault they didnt grab the opportunity to speak!! so chill and guess u r gonna get rocking marks based on the quality of ur comments...

I had my GDPI at Singhad college of management in Pune on 14th ,the first day.

I want to knw that after CET GDPI do we hav to take sign or some sought of stamp on our callletter/halticket so that in future we hav a proof that we hav attended the GDPI session.

Coz i didnt got any of these but had only signed in attendence sheet when i attended GDPI session.

Yes shilpi, you have to get a stamp on the backside of your call letter showing that you attended the GD & PI on that specific day!

hi guys..i had my gd today at JB..my gd topics were:
1) is business a war?
2) people,police, politics: whose the culprit.

the interview ws really grilling..it lasted for 45mins!!!!!!

i had my gd/pi today at K.J Somaiya at 2.30

They had to combine two batches together so we were 14 ppl in all ...

the topics were 1) y arent we world player in industry like we are in software

2)MNC's : r they a devil in disguise


Everyone except one guy opted for the second topic.

GD was good personally spoke 6-7 times put in a few good points.

Overall GD was very thanda with a few moments of chaos, we got stuck around two or three point so the panelists decided to end it and the each one was asked to summarise.

PI was very chilled out

- Finance and international finance

Who teaches you finance?
- Sapna Mallya

hmmm... i know her ... so tell me one tool of finance

i came up around 4 - 5 times wid points mentioning both adv n disadv
Adv:
quality of the education wud be better, employment opportunities, superior n experinced faculty, international exposure and updated knowledge since in mumbai university the computer subject in commerce is still based on foxpro n c programming wherein today v use c++ n linux as a networking software.
Disadv:
Profit motive, imparting education wud b secondary, poor people cannot afford, poses a threat to Govt universities.

At the end they asked us whether private universities is good or bad??
to wch i answerd tht today india being a developing country where in majority of the population is still below the poverty line, govt universities are in a position to impart atleast minimum education to students wherin this wont b the case if it is private as the poor cannot afford it.

then came the PI, PI was good. 2 panelists: male n a female.

Though i m not a senior or an expert, i wud still say ur pi was excellent. ur answers sound convincing. Lack of GK does keep a bad impression but ur back up answer to dat was very convincing. U can easily make it to 14 marks at least. Hope u get more than that.

1. Placements cannot be the sole indicator of the quality of a management institute!
2. There are no stupid ideas! ??:

9 people voted for the first topics and the other 3, for the second!
So obviously the first topic was selected!
The discussion was pretty decent, but everybody was dying to speak so it did become a fish market in between and the moderator had to ring the bell a few times to quiet us down!
2 people didnt speak at all! The rest contributed pretty much!
Talked about the quality of education, the faculty, the values imbibed, et al!

Then we were taken to the office area for PI
I was the first in to be interviewed by Panel B

There were two interviewers A man(M) of about 60+ age and a lady(L) of around 35...

they asked me to tell them about myself
I : blah blah blah
L : Your sister has done her MBA from which institute?? So why arent you pursuing it from the same institute?

M : Which do you think is the main problem that India is facing today!
I : Spoke about population and how we can turn it into an asset by imparting education blah blah blah
M : What is balance of payments
I : Answered
M : What is balance of trade (I didnt know)
M : What is a crossed cheque?
I : blah blah blah
M : So if i give u a crossed cheque right now, will you receive the payment immediately?
I : blah blah
Then the lady again jumped in with 4-5 of GK question which i didnt get! :(
L : You don't have GK as one of the sections in CET??
I : No Mam!
L : So GK isnt exactly your strength area??
I : No mam, but i am working on it!
L : So do you read newspapers?
I : Mam i'll be honest... I have only started reading them recently.. I didnt read papers religiously before!

The only bad thing was the GK thing which i didnt get :(

Hi Poorwa,

Though i m not a senior or an expert, i wud still say ur pi was excellent. ur answers sound convincing. Lack of GK does keep a bad impression but ur back up answer to dat was very convincing. U can easily make it to 14 marks at least. Hope u get more than that.

finally i am through with my GD PI.... its such a relief!

I was at sydenham in the 2.30-3.15 batch...
The GD was pretty decent.... There were 12 people in my group
The two topics that we were supposed to select from were,
1. Placements cannot be the sole indicator of the quality of a management institute!
2. There are no stupid ideas! ??:

9 people voted for the first topics and the other 3, for the second!
So obviously the first topic was selected!
The discussion was pretty decent, but everybody was dying to speak so it did become a fish market in between and the moderator had to ring the bell a few times to quiet us down!
2 people didnt speak at all! The rest contributed pretty much!
Talked about the quality of education, the faculty, the values imbibed, et al!

Then we were taken to the office area for PI
I was the first in to be interviewed by Panel B

There were two interviewers A man(M) of about 60+ age and a lady(L) of around 35...

they asked me to tell them about myself
I : blah blah blah
L : Your sister has done her MBA from which institute?? So why arent you pursuing it from the same institute?

The smiling face upperside suggests it was an excellent experience.
i was very much impressed with the management done by DTE.there wasnt any from the colllege in panel.all were from mumbai and the panel changes every third day.
everyone involved was very co operative and even the staff like peon had something to asvise u like fight in the gd,speak and speak.




ok now the process begins.we gathered in a room to fill up the bio-data form.then
were taken to the gd room.they wud tell u on what criteria u wud be assessed.
our topics were:
1.)the age of information
2.)India-china :friendship or enmity.

everyone selected the second one.only 6 guys were present.
i spoke and contributed valid points and was satisfied with my performance.those who dont speak the panel members asked them to speak sth in hindi or marathi.
after gd,pi started.in a big hall three panels were there.
i caught up with 2 ladies and was cursing my luck but as it started i had to chenge my attitude.they were so cooperative.

questions were:

how was ur experience in city pf pune.
which games u play.
what is the best thing u wud like to change in this world?
what do u like most in this globalised world?
what r ur future plans and where do u see urself after 5 years.
which field u wud choose for specialization and why...?
why do u think management is yr career.


all i learnt in this process is that dont overstress urself the level of competition is low what u shud do is put ur thoughts logically and be short.
the candidates were not dressed properly coming in jeans and t-shirt that shows how
casual ur approach is.we shud accomplish all which r in our hand.must put on tie ,shoes........they r very helpful in nature and if they r not u cant change them.u have a lot of time to speak in gd.if u r a little gud u wud get gud marks as there r very few who satisfy them.
SO ALL THE BEST TO REST OF THE CANDIDATES.
i m sure u wud benefit from my experience.
I was quiet satisfied with my performance and hope a gud career ahead.

See...many times we've heard in talks/discusssions...
Man...he was good but "THAT was missing..??:??:??:

Now its just that "THAT" u gotto show the PI Panel...which may vary person to person..
panel to panel...it might be ones attitude which a panel wud love or the other panel might get irritated of...:wow::wow:

Now thats its over..jus hope for the best...nothing much can be done..
even i feel sometimes that i cud answer it this way rather than that n all...
but have confidence in urself...n let time be the best judge!!

@boozi..why do u want our perspective..ultimately whatever panel decides whohi sikander..i had attended lot of gdpi..in some i thot i did brilliantly but was not selected..panelists may smile b4u but after u leave will give whatever marks he thinks is right acc to him..
this is for the ppl who have fear in gd of not speaking..speak speak speak as others also keep on speaking crap..most of the ppl in gds speak crap...very few add quality pts..

Most of the companies do provide you with the employment certificate mentioning that u r still working wid that company. In case you do not get it, then you will hv to show your appointment letter as well as your latest salary slip, you can also carry your confirmation letter if you have it. But then, the decision of alloting the work-ex marks will rest upon the centre and the faculty over there.

umm...coolrahine....i actually noticed during my gd that one person(no.9) was nt speakin at all..so i kinda interrupted the person who was speakin(no.10) and told him "you may finish ur point but plz let this guy speak after u"...but when no.10 finished his point, no.7 started to speak..so i interrupted no.7 and told no.9 to share his views... will i still be deducted marks for interrupting??
