I am pretty much interested in pursuing systems. How is Somaiya wrt Systems? In your opinion, at my marks, should I opt for Somaiya or Sydenham? (that's provided I clear any of the cutoffs)

At your score you have a pretty decent chance of getting into both Somiya as well as Sydenham.

As u are planning to take up systems, i will like to tell u a few things beforehand. Syd does have a systems batch but the size is very less. My batch thr are 4 ppl and my senior batch had 5. The super senior batch did not have any systems ppl. it will be helpful if u have a prior computer ot IT related experience coz it will help u alot. being less in size competiton will be less. but if u consider the placements, in Syd for systems, the IT companies which took up ppl frm systems, took ppl from mktg n fin also for the same profile i.e Business Analyst.

Also it is better to have a good sized class for better group learning. So if u planning hard to take up systems make sure that thr is a good sized batch.

but.. hang in there... u never know..

Try in PUMBA... its a gud college... but.. u can get thro there may b in 2/3 rd... last time around.. the final cut-off was in similar % tile range... but tht too u cant b sure..

I guess, now u need to define.. till vch institute u wanna try...

I have never personally felt this...

It maybe true that since they follow a trimester pattern & their syllabus can be tweaked to suit the faculty style, so faculty are more creative in their teaching methods...

But the management has chosen to make the course intresting for MMS as well...
With case studies, book reviews & live projects included in he syllabus....MMS 1st year looks good too.

As far as placements go ( and this should be your major concern in MMS)... There is absolutely NO distinction & i think ameya will second this statement. All resumes are sent to the company & choice is left upto the companies to decide.

I noticed a bit of tension between the two courses in the earlier batch... but as far as 06-08 goes, we tend to co-operate on most of the issues (Afterall who can live without a bit ofhealthy rivalry??):snipersm:

It all depends upon your personal choice

With a score of 171 last time around i chose SIMSR(over wel & syd) purely based on infrastructure. I dont regret my decision.

We have just begun to tap our alumini base, so the only waywe can go is up....
Expecting things to get a lot better in the future at SIMSR.

Dear Rosh,

Though SIMSR offers Systems, I dont think it is a good idea to pursue systems through any college offering MMS course. There are hardly 4-5 students in every batch who want to pursue systems..

But they are generally the first ppl to get placed...being very less in numbers!!

I dont know how systems at Sydenham is...at SIMSR teh only advantage yu have is of placements as i have mentioned above.

hey dude just chill........the admission system this yr is a bit dicy........u neva know whr u land up.......even a guy with rank 100 can get JB if he has filled just 1 option.......so in that case u just measure ur approach.......look at ur rank........and then fil ur form........i know its a real tuff one this yr........but if u hav ur mathematice going rite and keep ur eyes open.....u mite get a very good college.....and somaiya is surely 1 of those

Last yr at your % people had got in SIMSR...but as Mitesh said in his earlier post...its going to be very difficult to predict now. What I feel is if there are any seats vacant after the 4 CAP rounds being conducted by the Central Authority, the college will put up these seats on their website...so keep on checking the SIMSR website...if we get any updates from our side we will post it here.

Well dude I think you shud get thru easily...i hope u have maintained your percentile after the GD/PI ..with a score of 153 i think u must be above 99% and u stand a really good chance.

Dude...it will be very diff to predict teh cut offs...this yr they have drastically changed the entire process....But as an estimate for an OMS candidate it will be anything above 99%. Cant see any OMS ppl getting thru SIMSR without scoring more than 99%. Again I say this is an estimate..we all willhave to watch what happens this yr due to change in the process.

I am a member of the SIMSR placement committee. I have lived thru the placement process. The avg salary touched 6.75 lacs this yr. Marico offered the highest package of 12 lacs for an experienced candidate. Companies like COvansys, Wipro, Infy too visited and gave sal above 6.5 lacs.

UBS, DCB, CItifinancial,JP Morgan, HSBC, ICICI, ICICI pru, Motilal Oswal, Adventity were some of the companies that you may be aiming at. All these came to our campus.

well both are almost the same....somaiya has a rich heritage..a long histry..well known in industry circles...placements have been gr8 this yr...avg sal touching 6.75 lacs....well ultimately it boils down to where u wanna go..i had given SIMSR as my option before Wellingkars.....placements are not a problem...i am myself in the placement commitee..and i assure u that if u do u r best u will be placed in a good company...

I have purposely avoided comparing the 2 colleges....i gave u facts of somaiya....I have been here and I have felt the environment has challenged me at every step..thats how I like it...if u the one who likes challenges...u r welcome to SIMSR!!

Yes at your percentile you dont have to worry about getting thru into SIMSR. Relax and chill if you are aiming at SIMSR...you have scored good marks to get admission into SIMSR.

No it doesnt matter...thru CET there is no such advanatge...no points for extra curricu's....it might depend upon the person who is taking ur PI...if he wants to award u points based on u r extra curric's he will first ask u Q's related to that...dont worry so much about these points.

You have score really well t stand a chance for SIMSR(K J Somaiya).

At 99.21% i think you shud get thru....OMS candiates need very high scores in order to get thru. You have done that.

i think u wil surely get through frm guju quota... if not in 1st round... then n 2nd...

last year both these rounds happened b4 normal CET allotment... but... try frm both the ways...

2nd round is based the ppl who hav not taken admission in the 1st... so nos. seats may vary...

but.. 98.09%tile... if out of 40, u get around 32-34.. u can b confident.. otherwise also... u hav a good chance...
