Please check new SBC/OBC allotment on MAH-MBA/MMS-CET-2009 displayed on 1st August

Please any one can analyse impact on Only OBC candidates allotment.

I talked to one friend regarding SBC problem.
He told me that SBCs will be alloted seats in the round 2, if some seats remain vacant in the top colleges.
I personally found this information whimsical...

Plz refer to page 17 of DTE brochure.It says,


Candidates belonging to Special Backward Class (SBC) will be offered reservation up to 2% of the seats, available for Maharashtra candidates (Maharashtra State seats), which are coming under the purview of the Competent Authority subject to condition that seat remain vacant in the reserved category at the end of stageI of allotment logic.


So they have made it clear already.....When SBC ppl were not given ranks in OBC/ST they should hve enquired about how their allocation will b done and if it was supposed to b on d same lines as tht of last year, then wat ws the purpose of separate SBC ranks.

Fine ,

simple logic will give example for SBC

say 10 seats are there for OBC in JB but only 9 ppl gave preference for JB in OBC

now 10th seat is vacant so this seat will be offered to SBC candidate
same way SC, ST, NT

SBC problem

According to government rule -

1]SBC candidate is treated as there respective candidate initially .
2] If you are SBC-OBC , then first you will be considered in OBC category . If eligible you can get seat through it .
3] If you don get seat through OBC/SC/ST then if seats are vacant then only SBC people will be given preference.

4] But in CAP round 1 - DTE came up with there own formula (Which is totally against law and order) -- They have considered SBC as separate category and given seats only as per there HOME UNIVERSITY rule .

5] DTE has not considered SBC candidate in there Mother Category first .

6] Go through government sites and be prepared with your basics of reservation. It will help us to defend us .

@sush86, ur choice options are met, chetna, pumba; u hav 100% chances in met chetna, a a a pumba u hav chance in 2nd and 3rd round, bt if you let met chetna go in 1st round, ur chances to get them back in later rounds are not much bright. preferances should be like 1)pumba 2)met 3)chetna. If u r nt at all comfortable with idea of goin to pune it should be like 1)Met 2)chetna 3)pumba. rember one thing mum uni mms has lots of value compare to mba of pune uni in industry. consider this also.

As mentioned by preference suggested by TIME classes,your preference should be PUMBA,MET and CHETNA.As per my knowledge, MET is better than Chetna..And PUMBA=MET:o
Caste val cert-u have to get before Nov-2009.You have to apply after u get to the college.

In this attempt, I have undertaken some research on various B-schools in Mumbai. As a part of this activity, I along with my other 2 wanna-be MBA friends, visited these colleges, met students of these colleges, the directors of the institutes, and tried to gain insights on various aspects such as executive placements, summer internships, curriculum, infrastructure, faculty, etc. I thought, I must share my findings and views so that all of us all can benefit out of this. I am sure, after reading this, there will be some contradicting views, opposing and supporting opinions by various prospective and existing students. However, Let me frankly state that I do not intend to create any controversies out here and all the views and opinions stated here are of my own drawn as a result of the above stated activity.
*My institute-wise findings are as follows:*
*Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of management studies:*
This remains the best among all. If your score is good enough to land up here, u wont have to think much. Placements this year have not been up to the mark. Some of the students got excellent offers with fat packages, and some of the good companies continued their faith in this institute despite it being a tough year for the companies. But, like all the other top b-schools, JBIMS also had to stuggle to place all the students. During mid-march JBIMS had declared 100% placement , and then towards the end of the April, news came in that UBI (union bank of india) and some other public sector bank recruited some 10-15 students offering them around 3 lacs p.a. and still there were a few students waiting to get placed! Summer internship record has been excellent. Various kinds of offers for summers, with healthy stipend, too many companies for summers. The infra may not be anywhere close to that of welingkar, but trust me they have all the facilities required by an MBA studen!
t, be it library, wi-fi, conferencing etc. The institute can boast of being a fully Student-driven institute with almost each and every aspect is being taken care of by the students themselves exposing them to real life problems and situations. Also, you will find students from diverse backgrounds, some of them are CFA level-1 pass outs, sizable population with good work-ex which helps the juniors students when it comes to mentorship. The Director Mr. Chavan has also done good things for the college.
*Sydenham Institute of management studies (SIMSREE)*
Undoubtedly the 2nd best to JBIMS. Like JBIMS, Sydenham also had a tough year as far as executive placements are concerned. The start of the placement season was exceptionally well, with some of the best companies like godrej, Vodafone, citi bank, darashaw, imrb offering healthy packages with sound profiles. Their placements took a major hit when companies like deutsche bank, jp morgan, bank of America, standard chartered, hsbc all of whom have been their major recruiters last few years did not visit the campus due the slowdown. However, there was some respite as the college was able to place students during march and made sure that the placement season remained open as long as possible. As far as infra is concerned, the institute has come a long way. They have all the facilities required by an MBA student, be it library, wi-fi, conferencing etc. Summer internship record has been excellent with some new companies offering good profiles. I had a chance to speak to quite a f!
ew students on the campus. One exceptionally good thing about this institute is that u will never come across any differentiation as far as MMS and PGDBM are concerned. I met the director of this college Mr. Khan, he provided me with whatever info I wished to collect. He just did not show any reflection of a typical government official. Like JBIMS, sydenham institute can also boast of being a fully Student-driven institute with almost each and every aspect is being taken care of by the students themselves exposing them to real life problems and situations. As far as diversity is concerned, the 2007-09 batch had as many as 6-7 CFA level-1 candidates, 1 CA, 2 doctors, and among the current batch, about 15 students have appeared for CFA level-1.
*Somaiya Institute of management studies, & research (SIMSR)*
Needless to say, placements were affected big time due to slowdown. However, their record of past years has been good. I am not sure if they were able to place all the students. However, I spoke to couple of guys from simsr, and according to them few students were left unplaced till the end of may. It was year when few students got exceptionally good offers but many of them could only curse the economic conditions which got them peanuts, literally! Summers record in the past and current year has been exceptionally good. Their infrastructure is really good with no need to mention the sprawling campus they have. Overall, SIMSR can easily be preferred over Welingkar.

*Welingkar institute of management research n development*
Welingkar is more known for its glamour than the business acumen it provides. Undoubtedly, it has the best infra among all the CET institutes. That has definitely caused many a students fall into the trap and prefer it over somaiya and Sydenham. Among the top 4, welingkar has taken the hardest hit w.r.t. executive placements. One of the reasons is large number of students. The institute has as many as 450 students in various courses and keeps on bringing in new courses almost every year. The direct result is in such times, you just cannot place as many students. I am sure, I am gonna sound a bit critical of welingkar. But if thats what takes it to be frank, be it! The college declared 100% placements. However, the news is that about 150 students were unplaced till may and it is very unlikely that all of them wud have got placed in a month, especially when most of the companies had frozen their recruitment. If this wasnt enough, the college declared that more than 60 !
students opted not to sit for placement because they wanted to open their own ventures. strangeweird...bizarre! In the normal years, you hardly have 5-10 people per batch going in to entrepreneurship, welingkar has more than 60 going in to it in such difficult times wow..nice way to hide the failure in placing students. Besides, I personally met 4 students of mms n got to know that most of the placed students are from PGDBM batches and not mms. There is sheer differentiation among MMS and PG students. Huge number of students will hurt the placement figures even in years to come.
*Chetnas Institute*
Hit too hard by slowdown. Most of the students still unplaced and will continue to be so. They dont have record of 100% placements in normal years, let alone such unusual years. Thanks to companies like hdfc bank and ICICI bank, which take too many students in bulk (for peanuts obviously) and help them keep up with competiton with dalmiya and MET. Huge number of students would hurt the placement figues even in years to come. Summers internships continue to be bad as has been the case in most of the previous years. Most of the students have to get internships on their own.
*MET*
Placements have been simply ABYSMAL. Same problems as Chetnas. Their students are cursing themselves for opting for this college just out of excitement over its infrastructure and happening place. All this place assures you of is uncertain future! They also have with them a poor record of summer internship. In none of the last 5 years they have been able to place more than 50% students for summer internships. Most of the students have to get internships on their own. In the last batch, many students had a forgettable time during summers.

*Dalmiya*
Over the years, people have said that this college can be preferred over welingkar and somaiya if you want to opt for finance. Placements have been a problem here in past as well as in current year. Moreover, the place mira road calls for trouble when it comes to placement season. Theirs is no reason why a company will go all the way to mira road from Nariman point when two best colleges are located the next door. College hasnt been able to place students. Whoever has got placed, calls himself Relationship manager, no matter whether he/shes a fin student or a mrktg student. Need I say more..? Moreover, the faculty strength lies in only 2-3 good professors. The good thing for this institute is that some companies like ICICI Bank have shown tremendous faith in the quality of the students nad hence, it has been consistently picking up 20-25 people from the college. Two of their best professors attract good recognition among corporate community which gets them some go!

*Xaviers institute of management and research*
First and foremost, the college enjoys being in the environment surrounded by Xaviers brand. The infrastructure is good over here. But the college established with good intent has not quite started it off well. Its been three years now, but college still gives excuses of being relatively new in this segment. But how long..? placements have been abysmal! In fact, it wouldnt be incorrect to say that there have been no placements at all. Only 2-3 companies have visited the campus and I am sure they have not even picked 5 students. The institute now says that we are not a placement agency ohh really.? If one would ask me the strongest reason why one should not go for XIMR, my reason would be the kind of Dichotomy that is prevailing here. The institute differentiates between the catholic and non-catholic students. Pick any 5 students each from catholic and non-catholic group, compare their academic results and you will find that the catholic group will have bett!
er academic results than the non-catholic group. Sorry XIMR guys, I know u all will come hard on me post reading this comment, but both you and I know that is the fact. You will wonder where I got this info from. All you could do is to trust me. I have spent a lot of time in all this and have used all the credible sources. One more reason to be critical of the institute is that it is too focused on academics while neglecting extra-curricular activities. Thanks to Mr. Vaidyanathan, neither the college allows you to participate in most of the inter b-school events nor does it organize any of its own. I am afraid this is the only B-school on the earth do to so. On the other hand, it does boast of having included some courses like anthropology, psychology, in the curriculum. Give me a break.. i wud be better off joining some personality development class or do some other degrees to learn the above mentioned subjects why mba..ahh? The only positive I cud reach out is th!

2ndly, if u read my query again... I hvnt asked abt which college i may get... I've asked abt which college is better among d set of colleges i've mentioned (considering infra, placements, faculty, etc.). All d students r not going to mk it to top 5, so let them discuss abt Level 2 colleges as well...

Still, I thank u very much 4 taking initiative n answering my query. Bt wht is seen is, bcos of 1 answer most of d ppl tend 2 skip dat particular post n d discussion ceases there only.

Im confused how 2 arrange Bharti Vidyapeeth, Fr. Agnel, Alkesh Modi, Atharva... My preference will play a very crucial role as i'll get any of these in 1s round itself.. :p

Also im frm western suburbs, so i wnt 2 knw whether Fr. Agnel is worth travellin everyday 2 Vashi???? I mean is it marginally better dan d other options i hav... Because i've heard dat after d top 5s, d name of ur college doesn't matter much....:nono:

@all, DTE handles engg, diploma, pharma, mba admissions, so they will be late, they should show some efficiency, bt evething can not change juz blaming them. they are doing thea job, its routine fr them, where we r excited fr new college stuff so delay is frustrating us. anyway hope within 2days they put thea notification. we are 10days late in schedule compare to last year

I think by now, the issue of seat allotment to SBCs is clear.
According to information gathered by ashwini.mba and rahul_martial
it is clear that SBCs have already been alloted ranks by dte in respective categories like OBC,ST,etc.
But it seems that dte has not disclosed these ranks to the SBCs in their results and instead displayed a separate SBC rank.
Maybe dte wants to harrass all SBCs, OBCs and STs
Some more information-
Rank 16 OBC has 167 marks
Rank 2 SBC has 169 marks
Rank 2 OBC has 176 marks,etc..
This proves that a separate list for sbcs was prepared by dte...

dte really has the ability to test our nerves to the highest grade.they did it at the time of provisional list, final list and now CAP rounds...I think, that they dont understand the significance of delaying our admissions.They think that we all are superheroes who will easily cope up with the 2 months of academics lost during june-july.So, it must now be clear to all of us that our colleges are not starting before August 1st week!!!And to add it, our first sem exams are in the month of NOVEMBER!!!
